M.E. (TUBULAR)Introduction APF line is the line of Upper shaft. Upper shaft is mounted on the upper part of the column of a steer-ing in an automobile. This is basically the machining line on which different machining operations are performed on the upper shaft.

OBJECTIVE AND SCOPE

Cycle time study of line is done to establish a new SWC (standardized work chart).

Before studying the cycle time on the APF line we should have knowledge regarding the various ele-ments associated with it.

STANDARDIZED WORK

Standardized work is the organization of all jobs around human motion and creates an efficient production se-quence without any muda.

ELEMENTS OF STANDARDIZED WORK:

1)Work Sequence :-This is the sequence in which the operator work / pick the items, fits them on to the ma-chine, removes them and assemble the components.

2)Standard in - Process Stock :-This is minimum re-quired qty. of parts in the process on machine & between machines in order to repeat the same se-quence of operation.

Standardized work combination sheet:

Standardized work combination sheet defines how much time is spent during manual work, automatic machining of operation and walking at each production process it is used

Page 5: Sachin Mudgil Project Synopsis

to examine the range of processes that one operator can perform.

ELEMENTS OF STANDARDIZED WORK COMBINATION SHEET

The Basic elements used in SWC (Standardized Work Chart) are:-

1. Walking time: Time required moving from one process to second process.

2. Auto time: Time required by the machine to process the part. During automatic operation there is no involve-ment of operator with the machine.

3. Manual time: It is the time taken by the operator to load, unload and clean the part.

4. Cycle time: Total time taken to produce a component on a set of machine.

CONCLUSION

While conducting this project I had gone through all the processes in APF Upper Shaft line in

addition to it document work included in it. It gives me a basic learning on SWC. During the time spent with SKSSL in ME department I had also gone through various CNC Machines and I

have also learnt documentation work while working in the department i.e. making WSQCs,
