Dress  “White  Cascades”  by  Svetlana  @  Knits4Kids

This  dress  was  inspired  by  the  one  designed  by  Dalva  Mora.  You  can  check  it  out  at  http://lovelychildrenlovelydresses.blogspot.com/2010/07/beautiful-‐pink-‐dress-‐by-‐dalva.html  I  also  saw  similar  patterns  on  a  Chinese  and  a  Russian  blog,  all  of  them  are  available  for  free.  I  offer  my  version  and  hope  that  you’ll  find  it  useful  and  understandable.

Size:  2-‐3  year  old,  adjustable  to  any  other  size

Materials:  crochet  yarn  #10  (100%  cotton  560  m  /  100  g),  such  as  Filetta

250  g  white  and  50  g  light  pink,  crochet  hook  1.25

The  dress  is  worked  as  a  single  piece  top  down.  The  yoke  is  worked  back  and  forth,  the  skirt  is  worked  in  rounds.

The  below  description  of  the  yoke  is  slightly  different  from  the  photo  since  I  had  to  adjust  my  dress  (the  neck  opening  was  too  wide).

Determining the size: measure the desired length of the neck opening and crochet a short chain. Calculate how many stitches you need to chain. Let’s say, chain 100 for a 3 year old.

With the main color (white) chain the necessary number of stitches Proceed accoding the chart:

1st row: sc into each st 2nd row: dc into each sc 3rd row: repeat (dc into each st) 4 times, 2 dc tog; repeat from * to * till the end of the row 4th row: front-to-post dc in each st (See http://crochet.about.com/library/weekly/aa060797.htm for a tutorial) Join the second color (pink) and work next 2 rows with it.

5th row: (ch3, skip next st, sc); repeat 6th row:(sc into the arc, ch3, sc into next arc); repeat. Fasten off.

Continue with the main color: 7th row: 3 dc into each ch3-space. 8th row: like the 4th row Repeat rows 5 to 8 one more time and rows 5 to 7 one more time. If you want to have a larger size of the yoke, repeat rows 8,5,6, and 7 again.

16th row: dc into ch3-space, ch1, dc into next ch3-space till the end of the row.

This ist he end of the yoke. Next Stepp is crucial as you add two layers: 1) the pink edging in front and 2) the white ruffle behind

17th row (pink edging, working only into the front parts of the stitches): 3 trc tog into each st.

18 row (white ruffle, work underneath the edging you just made, stich into back parts of the stitches of the 16th row) according to the next chart, however, with the following modifications:

1st row: Depending on how whide you wand the dress to be, you can skip one 1ch-space (as wide as on the photo) or two: (2 trc into the ch1-space, ch2, 2 trc into the same ch1-space, ch6, skip the next 1ch-space); repeat. Do not turn and continue working in rounds.

2nd row: (trc in each of the 2 trc, trc into ch2-space, ch2, trc into the same ch2-space, trc in each of the 2 trc, ch5); repeat.

3rd row: (trc in each of the 3 trc, trc into ch2-space, ch2, trc into the same ch2-space, trc in each of the 3 trc, ch4); repeat.

4th row: (trc in each of the 4 trc, trc into ch2-space, ch2, trc into the same ch2-space, trc in each of the 4 trc, ch3); repeat.

5th row: (trc in each of the 5 trc, trc into ch2-space, ch2, trc into the same ch2-space, trc in each of the 5 trc, ch2); repeat.

I made 5 row high ruffles. Feel free to add more rows if you wish to have longer ruffles. The chain space between the ruffles should remain 2 st for all further rows.

6th row (pink edging): sc, *ch3, skip 1st, sc into next st*; repeat from * to *.

Next ruffle is attached inderneath the previous one stitching into ch2-spaces of row 4 (see photo).

Make 1 or 2 layers (row 1 to 6) of ruffles and separate for arm openings. Distribute according to your taste and size. Basic rule is to have the front and the back parts to be twice as long as the arm openings.

Continue with the skirt and make as many layers as you wish.

Underneath the last layer, two short layers are added:

1st row: 3 trc into the ch2-space, ch2, 3 trc into the same ch2-space, ch5); repeat.

2nd row: (2 trc into the 1st trc, 1 trc into the snd trc, 2 trc into the 3rd trc, 1 trc into ch2-space, ch2, 1 trc into the same ch2-space, 2 trc into the 1st trc, 1 trc into the snd trc, 2 trc into the 3rd trc, ch3); repeat.

3rd row: pink edging as in other layers.

Back to the neckline. If you wish, you can run add a pink row of the edging pattern around the neck (sc, *ch3, skip 1st, sc into next st*; repeat from * to *).

The opening at the back: with pink color, work 1 row of sc along the edges and 1 row of edging (sc, *ch3, skip 1st, sc into next st*; repeat from * to *).

The straps. Attach pink color to the top edge of the back opening, make 1sc and work the strap as follows: ch5, 3 tr dc (i.e., 3 times yarn over) together into the same stitch, turn.

Repeat this row till you reach the desired length.

Do the same fort the other side.

That’s it. Happy crocheting!!!
