VAN NUYS Rudy Giuliani says California needs an experienced job creator in its Governors seat a businesswoman like Meg Whitman whos disciplined and who understands the challenges facinCalifornias economy.

The former New York City mayor and 2008 presidential candidate traveled to California Sunday tojoin Meg at a lively rally in Van Nuys with nearly 400 voters. Giuliani told the crowd that Megssuccessful background in business and her common-sense approach are what gives him confidencthat she can pull California out of crisis and return it to prosperity.

Im here because I am extremely enthusiastic as enthusiastic as you are -- about the possibilitythat we could elect a really great governor in the state of California, Giuliani told the cheeringcrowd. This is the right person at the right time for the kinds of challenges that California faces.

In contrast, Giuliani told this crowd that another term of Jerry Brown would be a move backwardfor California. Brown has spent 40 years in politics, including two terms as governor three decades

ago. Under Browns governorship, taxes went up, the states unemployment rate nearly doubled,and a $6 billion budget surplus became a $1 billion deficit.

You want to go back to those eight years? Giuliani asked the crowd. This isnt about Republicanor Democrat or liberal or conservative. Its about having a chief executive who can make decisionswho will run this state in a sensible way like a business.

Giuliani, known as Americas Mayor, has a reputation for being a leader who can take onchallenges, make the tough choices necessary to improve peoples lives and get results. He gainedinternational attention for his determined leadership in the wake of the Sept.11, 2001 terroristattacks on the World Trade Center. And as New York Citys mayor, Giuliani was lauded fordramatically improving the citys public safety, its welfare-to-work program and its public schools.

Giuliani endorsed Megs campaign over a year ago, and hes one of several national Republicanleaders who have stepped up to support Meg in this critical election.

For nearly an hour, Meg and Rudy Giuliani discussed the challenges facing California and thenation, and they answered questions from the audience on topics such as education, the budgetand how to push through the legislative gridlock in Sacramento.
