• Manchester's Royal Exchange Theatre is located in the centre of town, between the Town Hall and Victoria Station and the post code is M2 7DH

• The theatre boasts entrances on both St Anne's Square and in the heart of Manchester's main shopping area.

The history and purpose in the past?• These days, the Royal Exchange is more of a centre for culture, housing as it does the

theatre, than it is for commerce, but between 1874 and 1968, it was a hive of textile trading activity, with over 11,000 members at the trading peak in 1921.

• Albert Rowson, now 79, was one of those traders, regularly taking to the floor for two decades, and he recalls times

• "It was really a hub of activity. I would be on my stand and people would come along to me to ask for the price of this or that count of cotton.

• Now Albert has contributed his memories of his time in the Exchange to MOSI. Histories Revealed project textile industry. He says that recording the past of the building is very important.

• MOSI‚ Susie Elliott, the Histories Revealed Project officer, agrees that telling the story of the Exchange in people own words is a vital section.

• "The Royal Manchester Exchange was an incredibly important part of life for thousands of Mancunians and played a key role in the success of the Lancashire textile industry.

• "It was once the largest trading floor in the country and helped to build on Manchester status as the Cotton polis of the world.

The uses and purpose in present?

• Nowadays, the royal used to theatre, gallery, some cafes and restaurant. The new theatre it look like a strange wonderful shape, it's decorate by pipes and glasses.

Advice for other INTO students:• I advice all the students of into Manchester to visit the new

theatre, its amazing place to have a good time with your friend.

• Don't miss the café if you want a quite, beautiful and classic place you will have a lovely moment there.

• If you are interested in history, you will be happy with a gallery that shows some of special history that happens in Manchester.

• If you are delighted with unique things or doing something special to remind you of lovely moments they have a "plaque" to write anything you want. (see next slide)
