Essence of the Holy Gita

The independent reader who seeks to understand the Gītā as a well-knit textbased on reasoning and spiritual insights has no other alternative than to study Śaṁkara's commentary in its entirety. It is of the utmost importance to follow Śaṁkara's subtle arguments as painstakingly and loyally as possible to get to the heart of the Perennial Philosophy embodied in the Gītā. Succinctly, the purpose of the science of the Gītā is to set forth (the nature of) Moksha or the Summum Bonum consisting in the total cessation of transmigratory life and its causes. – A G Krishna Warrier

The Bhagavad Gītā is one of the clearest and most comprehensive summariesof the Perennial Philosophy ever to have been made. Hence its enduring value, not only for Indians, but for all mankind. It is perhaps the most systematic scriptural statement of the Perennial Philosophy. – Aldous Huxley

As the colophon indicates, the Bhagavadgītā is both metaphysics and ethics, Brahmavidyā and Yogaśāstra, the Science of Reality and the Art of Union withReality. The aim of the Gītā, according to Śaṁkara, is the complete suppression of the world of becoming in which all action occurs…..Strictly speaking we cannot give any description of Brahman. The austerity of silence is the only way in which we can bring out the inadequacy of our halting descriptions and imperfect standards. – S Radhakrishnan
