C ause for a Cuppa Happy New Year from Cause for a Cuppa! I hope your Christmas was enjoyable and full of opportunities to build memories. Remember that “building memories” doesn’t have to translate into “expensive” or “exhausting”. Some of my best memories are the very sim-

ple things. I also hope AND pray that 2012 will be a wonderful year for you.

Of course the new year brings up thoughts of “resolutions” … things that you want to start, stop, etc. I recently read about people who were resolving to do things ranging from breaking the world record for the largest pancake to deciding to learn how to blow through a blade of grass to make that strange buzzing sound. (It takes all sorts … hehehe)

Maybe some of those weird … and not so weird resolutions sounds attractive to you, others you may make could take on more practical applications. We are created as body, soul and spirit. How about considering something “do-able” in each area for 2012?

Our physical self, the body, is fairly straight forward. I can’t recall if I mentioned this in a past Cause for a Cuppa but I applied to run the London marathon and started training for it (wanting to raise money for ovarian cancer research in honour of Mum). I got out of a regular exercise routine for many years and it was a challenge to get started again. Unfortunately I did not make the cut for the marathon BUT I felt SO much better physically that I wanted to carry on 3-4 times a week … just 30-45 minutes. It could be nothing more than a walk with your dog but it will make a world of difference.

Our “soul” and “spirit” can be a bit tricky. Without getting too picky, most would say our soul deals with the mental/intellectual/feeling side of us. Maybe you could take a course and learn a new skill that you have been talking about or dreaming of for years. We have someone at church who has taken up painting and has discovered an amazing talent. You could start jour-nalling your day to try and connect with your emotions with all our swings and roundabouts. It may make some good conversation with your partner or children!

Our spiritual side, unfortunately, tends to get ignored the most. But it is as real as our body and emotions. It is the bit that can connect to God. Maybe you used to attend a church but have long since stopped. Why not consider visiting again. Of course we would love to see you at our church at the Holmescarr Centre on a Sunday but there are 5 churches in Rossington. Maybe you had a bad experience, were hurt, etc. at a church in the past. Why not try again as a New Years Resolution. You may be shocked when you discover how REAL the spiritual side of you is! And as always, if you would like to stop by for a chat & a cuppa, the door is always open!

Rossington Councillor's Update

The White Rose Way from B&Q to the Yorkshire Outlet is ready for a big leap forward with the bridge over 14 railway lines being made ready. We have 48 hours to fit this whilst the railway is shut down over Christ-mas. As a bonus the Government has announced that we are going to get a grant to complete the dual carriage way from the M18 to the B&Q roundabout. This will mean that it will be much quicker into town.

There has been some diesel theft, scrap theft and criminal damage at Bankwood Lane Industrial Estate, if you know anything please contact me. I am pleased to say that Overall Crime has decreased by 13% over the last month. Notably House burglaries are currently down by 11% and although criminal damage is always a focus for us, we have shown an 80% reduction in the last month.

The sensory garden in Holmescarr is fast approaching its' March open date thanks to Neighbourhood team member Steve Lelew with work taking place over the last month including some heavy duty clearance work, railways sleepers being supplied to create raised planting beds. The garden will stimulate the sense by encouraging the use of all the senses all year round.

Radburn Tara, a very successful organisation, has moved, not only place, but time as well (but not as good as Doctor Who). The meetings now will be in the Ragusa Community Hall at 1.00pm on the second Friday in the month. The next meeting is on 13th January 2012, all welcome.

The boxing club has a few younger age group vacancies, please enroll as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. Kindest Regards

R ossington Wheelers – January news Happy New Year everyone and best wishes for 2012 – the year that could really put road cycling on the map in the UK....! By the time you read this World Champion Mark Cavendish may have been crowned BBC SPOTY 2011 and with a great chance to claim the first gold medal available at the 2012 London Olympic Games a repeat success may be a

possibility in 2012 (I’ve gone out on a bit of a limb there....)? The Tour de France in 2012 also provides a course tailor made for British rider Bradley Wiggins who will want to be the first Britain onto the podium at the very least! A lot of us at this moment will be sat crammed full to the brim with turkey and some of us will be thinking of how we’re going to fair with this years ambitious New Year’s Resolutions and how we’ll cope with that gloom that descends in mid January and us riders will be back to mile zero on the counter.....but its not all bad.....

As I write in mid December we’ve just had our first proper frost which is a massive improvement on 2010’s 18 inch of snow and conditions look ideal for the Cyclo X event (touch wood)! The club is blossoming in all directions and winter season off-road rides look like an imminent possibility on Saturday mornings in the New Year, so keep an eye out any mountain bike enthusiasts out there for those. The club also looks set to have much larger representation in the district’s open event race scene in 2012 and at least half a dozen riders are taking part in various ‘chain-gang’ training rides with an eye on these races already.

Steady rides have been the norm on Sunday mornings in the last month, 50 miles or so the current usual trip and 20+ riders a regularity now, proof that the clubs policy of monthly introductory rides has reaped some rewards. With this growth in membership and other interest shown the club is expanding its annual presentation evening and the 2011 Presentation Evening will be held at Rossington Welfare on Friday 24/02/2012 at 7.00pm. Tickets priced £10 and £3 (u16’s) including a buffet, disco and children’s entertainment are available from Colin Taylor, Brendan Simpson or along with all other club information including a ‘2012 Rossington Wheelers Wallchart’ from Chair-man Les at Hudson Cycles on King Avenue. Rossington Parish Council News

Not a lot of news this month the meetings and the deadline for articles are out of sync. this month. The Triple 'A' Committee held its' first meeting and was given a brief talk on the Neigh-bourhood Plan section of the Localism Bill and how it fits within the Local Development Frame-work of DMBC. It soon became clear that this and the new forthcoming planning regulations were difficult and training would be needed.

A background document on the history of regeneration for Rossington was circulated and dis-cussed and it was decided to pursue a Neighbourhood Plan as soon as we could

The Professional Golfers Association and DMBC have been in talks about a PGA Tour golf course in Rossington. Both sides are equally interested.

We resolved to put great emphasis of training and we were going to actively chase moneys and partners to increase training opportunities within the village.

By the time this is published, and after some communication errors, the work on planting the various planters around the Circle and village should be completed, and 5 new planters pur-chased and planted for around the Market place. The contract for these is for seasonal planting so they should be colourful all year round.

Further to this DMBC will be putting the toilets on the market place in a fit condition for use. They will use the 'Payback' workers at a great saving to us. The Parish Council will then take care of them properly!

Rossington Main Football Club Well November proved to be a disas-trous month for the 1st team as we picked up just TWO League points from a possible 18 and also crashed out of the Sheffield Senior Cup com-petition with a 5-0 thrashing at Hemsworth. This run of poor form has cost us dearly as we have now caught up the games in hand on the other sides near the top of the division and are 10 points adrift of the leaders.

Thankfully we ended our poor run on Dec. 3rd with a late flurry of goals to return from Emley with an emphatic 4-1 victory and with no fur-ther midweek games scheduled (unless of course we have cancellations to our Saturday programme) and with our injured players re-covering, the remainder of the season looks more positive - but "football is a funny old game".......

More heartening is the fact that the 2nd team have sustained their form and still lead the Doncaster Senior League Premier Division by 8 points despite a narrow 3-2 defeat away at their closest rivals Sutton Rovers in November. The 2nd XI appear to be scoring goals for fun in their fixtures and their goal difference is a massive +30 better than any of their oppo-nents in the division, and they still have an interest in the County Cup with a tie versus Sheffield F.C. Reserves scheduled for Decem-ber 10th.

Our youth sides at U.19 and U.17 level are not necessarily playing as regularly as the senior sides because of a lack of teams in their re-spective Leagues and already a couple of sides have resigned. Appleby Frodingham from Scunthorpe have withdrawn from the U.19 League reducing the number of teams to just 7 and Bessacarr JFC Blues have pulled out of the U.17 section leaving a league of 9 clubs. The U.19s currently lie in 4th spot with 7 games played having gained recent away wins at both Brodsworth Welfare AFC and Altofts AFC from Wakefield. The U.17s have a similar record with 3 wins from 7 games and are just below mid-table. Incidentally if you are a lover of football then the Welfare is the place to be on a Sunday morning as there can be as many as FIVE games being played simultaneously on the pitches available, ranging from our own U.17s down to U.8s/U.9s, as well as a local senior side. The sheer enthusiasm of some of the youngsters, the dedication of their manag-ers and coaches and the support of their par-ents are all to be admired. I have often slipped out of the gates of the main pitch to watch some really entertaining games. I do believe that both the U.16s and U.11s teams are very successful at the moment, and I apologise in advance if other junior sides are faring just as well but I am not aware of it.

The 1st team are the only side to have fixtures over the festive period and their boxing day game is followed by a trip to Appleby Frodingham on Monday Jan. 2nd in the New Year. The remainder of the January schedule is pretty thin at present as we do not have confirmation of either the 2nd team or U.17s fixtures for that month. The 1st team have a vacant date on Sat.7th (how ironic after the glut of games we have recently played) and travel away on Tues. Jan.10th for a re-scheduled match away at Albion Sports (BRADFORD) and 14th and 28th to Glasshoughton and Dinnington respectively. The only home game: SAT. JAN. 21st v. HALLAM F.C. K.O. 3pm The U.19s have 3 fixtures provisionally arranged for January 2012: MON. 9th Away at Kinsley WED.18th HOME v. Bottesford and THURS.26th Away at Nostell M.W. All are due to kick-off at 7-45pm but also sadly, subject to change.

This may well be a BELATED Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all (what a way to cut down on sending Christmas cards!!!) and let's hope that 2012 brings a little bit of success and good fortune for the Club.

Friends of Brodsworth Way Residents Group I trust you all enjoyed the seasonal festivities. The Christmas Fayre we held at the Brodsworth Way pavilion in December wasn't particularly well supported but, not to be deterred, those of us who were there enjoyed the social gather-ing. There were some terrific products available to purchase, beautiful hand-made jewellery, cards, wooden items, cupcakes, plaques, etc.

We are going to try out having a coffee morning on Wednesday 11th January at 11am until 1pm and would be pleased to hear from anyone who might like to come. At the time of writing this note, the Council are yet to confirm we can use the pavilion on Brodsworth Way on that day. Happy New Year..

Rossington Torndale School Phew, December has been a very busy month at Tornedale Infant school in Rossington! On Friday 2nd December we enjoyed a wonderful Christingle service in association with St Michael’s Church & Primary School. The hall looked magical, filled with the twinkly lights from the candles. The children were thrilled to receive their very own Christingle to take home.

In the week beginning 5th December each year group put on their own productions based around the Christmas story. I am sure there were many a tear in their parents’ eyes as the children sang their little hearts out. Well done everyone involved!

Our Christmas Fayre was held on 14th December. Everyone had a great time playing the games and eating goodies! Thank you to everyone who helped and attended, funds raised helped pay for the Christmas activities in school.

The last week of term was a whirl of parties, presents and Christmas dinner! We even had a special visit from a jolly old man in red! Then it was home for celebrations with families and loved ones and a well earned rest for all!
