Rosewood Primary School Summer Term, 2020 Newsletter No. 12

Dear Families,

We have reached the end of another year… and what a year it has been. Prior to lockdown there were so many amazing things happening in the school building, and post lockdown, there have been amazing things happening in school and homes.

I always knew that it was the children who made a school, but the last few months have brought that home to me like a hammer blow. I

have missed the children terribly, and seeing the relatively few children who have been able to return has been a real joy. I cannot wait to see ALL the children in September, and more information about how we currently are proposing the return to school can be found in the letter at-tached with this newsletter.

So, this week I have been thinking about the positives I have found in lockdown, both personal and professional.

It has been amazing to have lead such a professional and capable team, they make my role easier, the kitchen staff, the cleaners, the office staff, the welfare team, the pastoral team, the teachers, the teaching assistants, they have all been supportive, adaptable and resilient. Not all schools can say this.

Every child who has had to come to school, or who has elected to come to school more recently, has been a joy. They have managed to remember all the new routines and have done so willingly, with a smile. Absolute treasures.

The children who have had to remain home have been amazing, I have enjoyed seeing their work on the website and hearing about their triumphs through conversations with their class teachers.

I have been amazed at my two, Owen and Gwen, who have worked hard and made me laugh after stressful days. My husband is a bit of a treasure too.

So we say goodbye (and good riddance) to this academic year. I don’t know what the future holds, but I do know that with the team and community we have at Rosewood we will face whatever is to come and we will prevail.

I say this every year, in fact all the time, but I am lucky, even when it has been tough I know that I have the best job in the world, and leading Rosewood Primary School makes me proud and very, very happy.

Thank you all. You are all amazing. Enjoy the summer. STAY SAFE. Stick to the guidance and see you in a few weeks.

A VERY VERY FOND FAREWELL TO YEAR 6

Oh me. Oh my. What can we say about the class of 2020. The amazing LOCKDOWN LEAVERS. I arrived at Rosewood in January 2017, and this cohort were in Y3. From day one I knew that they were a fantastic group of children, being in lessons in their classrooms was always something to look forward to as they were all such keen and engaged learners. I am very cross with the coronavirus for cheating these amazing young people of the rite of passage that is leaving primary school. It was wonderful to see them on the Zoom earlier today and I hope that we will be able to host a party for them very soon to finish off their primary journey in style. Unity, Shuttleworth, Burnley High, Moorland, Sir John Thursby and Blessed Trinity are lucky to be getting Rosewood children. They are absolutely brilliant and I can’t wait to hear of all their future successes. Thank you and all the very best—you have been such a pleasure to have in school.

SPOTLIGHT ON….. MRS RYAN

Hi everyone! My name is Mrs Ryan and you will probably recognise me as the lady that runs the school kitchen at Rosewood. I love my position in the school and lucky enough to work with every year group so I get to meet and know a lot of children in school. My job is making sure everybody is looked after at lunchtime (even the school staff as well). Quite a few years ago I was a pupil myself at this school when it was called Rosehill, whilst I was here my own grandmother did the same job as I do now. So years later when I got the same position, I know I had very big shoes to fill, as she was a very special person to me and at the time to the school. Having worked at Rosewood for over 22 years, I have had the pleasure of seeing lots of children coming through the school including my own daughter Gemma who is now all grown up. (Where does time go!) As well as managing the kitchen, I also work as a play worker a couple of afternoons a week in the on site Kids Klub at Rosewood. I have been there for over 3 years now. I love working with the children, being able to interact with them and it’s also really good fun. When I am not in school you will find me spending a lot of time with my dog Charlie. He is my best pal, we absolutely love walking rain or shine spending many hour in Towneley Park. Charlie’s favourite place, especially during lockdown.

Anybody that knows me, knows I love a game of bingo & have missed it during lockdown. This weekend I got to go for the first time ever to an Drive-In Bingo in a field. It was so much fun, even won a skateboard! (Although at my time of life I won’t be using it so I passed it on to the young generation to be on the safe side). When Gemma was growing up we spent many a happy holiday in England at Haven Holiday parks. Now that she is older I have been able to adventure a little further a field in the last few years, having been to Amsterdam, Dublin, Krakow and Benidorm. It’s been a very strange time during lockdown at school, one being it’s been very quiet without you all. I have been in school looking after the key worker children and the returning year groups. I am very much looking forward to September, even though we will still have government restrictions, we will finally all be back together. Me and the

rest of the Rosewood catering team have missed you all very much. Have a lovely summer, stay safe and see you all in September. P.S. Just to show that little mishaps can happen on a Monday morning at 7am while making chocolate pudding – this is me covered in cocoa!

SUMMER HOLIDAYS ABROAD

Please check the guidance regarding quarantining after your holiday this year. The government reviews the guidelines regularly so keep a careful eye on the latest news. Thank you.

SPOTLIGHT ON….. MRS SUTHERLAND

Hello everyone, my name is Mrs Sutherland and you will probably recognise me as one half of the office team at Rosewood Primary. Mrs Holden and I are the two friendly faces that you see or speak to when entering the school building or calling school on the phone. I have worked at Rosewood for over 15 years and absolutely love it! I have always worked in the office but also went to college to train as a teaching assistant some years ago and used to work the mornings in the office and the afternoons in class.

I am married to Andrew and between us we have four wonderful grown up children, Eleanor, Luke, Abbie and Jennifer. My two daughters, Jennifer and Eleanor were both pupils at Rosewood school and I was also a pupil (many moons ago!) along with my two older sisters. That was when the school was known as Rosehill School and was the old brick building which parents and grandparents will remember. School has been very different since the end of March but all of the staff have worked really hard to ensure that we have kept in touch with the children and made school a safe, caring and happy place to learn for all the children who have attended. It will be wonderful to see all the children back into school in September under the guidelines given to school by the government. I am sure that we will manage to squeeze a welcome back celebration into the Autumn Term!

I, like a lot of the Rosewood team, support Burnley Football Club and I am lucky to attend most of the home league games sat just behind the Burnley dug out. It’s very exciting watching the live matches so close when you can hear Sean Dyche, the manager, shouting his instructions to the players. Thanks to two very good friends, we have a table in the 1882 Lounge where we have a meal and drinks before the

match and then we go back to the table after the game and get to meet the man of the match get their autograph. This is me with my favourite player Matt Lowton, everybody has a favourite don’t they?

I love spending time with my friends and family like most people but not many people know that I am a secret adrenaline junkie! Over the years I have taken part in lots of exciting ventures such as, solo parachuting, abseiling, gorge walking, pot holing, white water rafting down the river Dee in Llangollen and completed the extreme assault course Tough Mudder, which was 12 miles long and had 14 obstacles to conquer. Please don’t invite me on a fairground ride though (other than bumper cars of course) as the waltzers made me very sick and I shudder thinking about roller coasters and have always just closed my eyes and screamed the whole way round!

Finally, I wish you all a very enjoyable summer break in all that you do. Take care & Stay safe xx
