REGISTRATION BEGINS IMMEDIATELY | FOUR WAYS TO REGISTER- MAIL, FAX, ONLINE OR WALK-IN

Dear Neighbors,

It will soon be a new year and we look forward to serving you during 2013 with more and improved programs and facilities. If you would like to see a program added, a program changed, or believe a program is not meeting your needs, please let us hear from you.

Looking back on 2012, we are pleased to report that it was a fun, successful, and fi nancially stable year for the Roselle Park District. Please review our Annual Report for the fi scal year that ended April 30, 2012, which is included in this catalogue. It provides a snapshot of how your property taxes and fees were used to support the services provided by the Roselle Park District. This is a new effort to keep our citizens informed. If you would like additional details about the District’s fi nances or activities, please attend a Board meeting or give us a call at (630) 894-4200.

Some of our accomplishments in 2012 include:

• The new playground at Clauss Park. By the use it is receiving, it appears the new playground is a hit with the District’s children.

• An intergovernmental agreement with Medinah School District 11 to provide before and after school programming – Club Kids.

• Maintenance of the District’s very favorable AA bond rating.

• An intergovernmental agreement with Lake Park High School District 108 to allow the installation of a new sign board in Kemmerling Park at Roselle Road to celebrate the many State Championships won by Lake Park students.

Among other accomplishments during 2012, the Board of Commissioners adopted a Strategic Plan in September. The details of the Plan are too numerous to list here, but you can access the entire Strategic Plan at rparks.org. The broad categories of our initiatives include the following:

• Improve the District’s fi nancial position.• Maintain and upgrade existing indoor and outdoor assets.• Increase Community awareness and satisfaction with the District and its programs.• Create an internal culture which motivates and retains employees.

The development of the Strategic Plan was assisted by the input we received from District citizens. We thank all who participated in our community survey and those who participated in our focus groups. Your input was very valuable. Please check out our continuing program offerings and new programs in this catalogue. We are offering our fi rst lacrosse camps. Hopefully, there will be more ice on Turner Pond this year so we can provide ice skating under our new lights and the hockey tournament that did not happen last winter. Also, check out the following popular events: Bags tournament, Ping Pong tournament, Breakfast with the Bunny, Dine N’ Dash (if you missed it last year, don’t miss it this year), Daddy-Daughter Date Night (with Cinderella’s carriage), Fishing Derby, Teen Co-op trips, and our extended preschool Enrichment Classes.

Also, join us on a new joint venture with the Roselle History Museum. We will be traveling to the Chicago History Museum on March 2nd (see page 49).

As always, we hope you are enjoying our parks, facilities and programs.

Parent and Me Playtime:AGE 8 months-1.5 years by the fi rst class, with parent

Curriculum encourages healthy relationships and social interaction with other children. Teachers promote the development of fi ne and gross motor skills through playing with toys, and singing and dancing to music.

Tiny Tots: AGE 1.5-2.5 years by the fi rst class, with parent

Curriculum promotes positive relationships and interactions by practicing social skills such as sharing and listening. Teachers support physical and social development through circle time, play time, singing, dancing, and crafts.

Soon 2B3:AGE 2.5 by 9/1/13, and working on potty training

Curriculum emphasizes a nurturing atmosphere and an introduction to the educational process which is inviting and encouraging. Teachers assist children in experiencing a positive separation from home; provide opportunities to work with various media forms, and help develop listening and language skills. Little Learners

Kindergarten Readiness

Little Learners:AGE 3 by 9/1/13, and potty trained

Curriculum exposes the children to structure, routine, and following directions within a schedule. Beginning concepts in reading, writing, and math; encouraging growth in social development, and promoting an awareness of health and safety are also a class focus. Appropriate activities include providing a healthy outlet for imaginary and dramatic play, working with manipulatives, listening to stories, having special visitors, going on fi eld trips, and opportunities for students to express themselves.

Kindergarten Readiness:AGE 4 by 9/1/13, and potty trained

Curriculum provides further development of the educational concepts in literature, math, and science, as well as social, emotional, and physical growth. Activities provide a print rich environment that stimulates the development of language and literacy skills in meaningful context. There is a greater variety of experiences to promote interest in the community and the world outside the student’s own. There are more concentrated fi ne motor skills such as writing letters and numbers, cutting, gluing, painting, and using manipulatives. There are many opportunities for making choices, developing problem solving skills, becoming independent thinkers, and developing confi dence. Children also have visitors and go on fi eld trips to enrich their studies of various themes.

Volunteer Coaches Needed!

Be it our in-house soccer and basketball leagues or Raptors travel basketball teams, volun-teer coaches are a valuable ingredient in our youth athletic programs. Without caring moms and dads from the community, giving of their time and effort, we would not be able to offer these types of activities. They understand the valuable lessons of participation, teamwork, character, and sportsmanship. The Roselle Park District feels these long-term principles are paramount and cannot be shoved aside in order to achieve short-term “victories.” If you are a “fi rst timer,” we offer clinics and an on-line coach’s certifi cation program for those interested in this fun and rewarding opportunity. Please call Vic Orlandino at 630-894-4200 for details.

Spring Youth Soccer League (VO)

AGES 5-13

Emphasis in the Mid-Suburban Soccer League is placed on individual instruction, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Teams will be based on approximately 12 to 15 players per roster depending on age groups. Waiting lists will be used until there are enough players and a volunteer head coach to form another team. Games are played on Saturdays against neighboring park districts. Competition will start April 13th. Practices will be held during the week based on coach’s availability. Practices will start two weeks prior to game play dependent upon a particular level having enough volunteer coaches lined-up. Parents will receive a call from their child’s coach once the team selection process is completed. The number of teams competing this spring out of the Roselle Park District is to be submitted to league offi cials mid-March for scheduling purposes. Registering before or after this timeframe does not necessarily guarantee a spot on a team due to minimum and maximum numbers needed to form a team. It is imperative to register early!

Volunteer coaches are always needed for this program. Please indicate on registration form if you would be able to manage a team. Also, please let our front desk staff know if you would be interested in coaching. They will make note of this in our computer registration software. If you are not familiar with the game of soccer, don’t worry, we can teach you everything you need to know

Class Descriptions

CLASSICAL BALLET: Regarded as the most disciplined forms of dance. Ballet is the foundation for all other dance disciplines. Class consists of barre, across fl oor technique and center combinations. Leaps and turns will be covered along with proper dance terminology.

JAZZ: Class will consist of stretching, center warm ups, isolations, jazz progressions and turns, (center and across the fl oor.) Jazz combinations will be incorporated. All styles of jazz from competition dance to concert dance will be taught.

HIP HOP: Funky, fun and athletic, Hip Hop is a separate discipline of dance. Free-formed and derived from its street history, it’s a lot of pop and lock, fi lled with sharp percussive moves and a certain gymnastic quality. Loved from the serious dancer to the recreational dancer, cheerleading and poms, incorporate this in their routines. Class will consist of center warm ups, center core strengthening, and jammin center combinations. Come prepared to have fun.

LYRICAL: Lyrical Dance is one of the most popular, most noted styles of dance, within the dance community. Lyrical combines techniques of classical ballet, jazz and adagio. It allows the dancer freedom of expression and movement cutting between the graceful, yet powerful forms of all three dance disciplines noted above. This style combines jumps, turns and various series of combinations. Much feeling encompasses this form of dance and requires ballet technique, as always, to attack this fun and exciting style. Lyrical has become a necessary part of dance training today. It is not to be confused with modern dance.

CREATIVE MOVEMENT: Introduction of dance begins here. Children are taught dance through a variety of familiar children’s songs. Basic ballet/tap technique and terminology is covered. Props are incorporated with this class to build interest for the young dancer. Class respect and socialization is highlighted. A little ballerina is about to be born!

BALLET/TAP COMBOS: Class instruction will be tailored to fi t the level of the class placement. Proper ballet and tap technique and terminology will be taught. Barre, center and across fl oor combinations will be included.

BALLET/JAZZ COMBOS: Class instruction will be structured to fi t the level of class that you are enrolled in. Ballet and Jazz technique and terminology will be taught and include barre, center and across fl oor combination.

ACRO: Acro dance is a style of dance that combines classical technique with precision acrobatic elements. It is defi ned by its athletic character and its unique choreography, which blends dance and acrobatics. This class focuses on tumbling and fl exibility in a dance context. Elements introduced and practiced include cartwheels, back bends, walk overs, chest stands, and aerials. Students will also learn proper stretching technique.

JAZZ/HIP HOP: This class combines jazz with innovative hip-hop dancing. Students will learn rhythm and coordination through jazz progressions and turns as well as age-appropriate hip hop choreography with no suggestive music/movements. They will also explore basic beats and musical styles while learning coordination, fl exibility, and expression through dancing.

Dance Company (AB)

AGES 6-13

Dance Company is an accelerated program at the Roselle Park District for the more serious dance student. It is a step forward for the dancer who wishes to demonstrate more dedication to dance, thus having required additional dance performance opportunities throughout the community and surrounding area. Most students desiring to be in this program are interested in a more intensive curriculum. Dance Company members will also be showcased in the Opening Number and Finale for our Spring Dance Recital. (Separate costs may be required for additional costume accessories.) Each student participating in Dance Company will be obligated to take the two 60 minute dance classes. Dance class on Monday will be instruction on technique and dance skills, and the Wednesday class will be choreography. Dance Company allows students to be a member of a dance team to form bonds and friendships which are memories that will last a lifetime.

Strength training has been proved to benefi t all populations, from adolescent athletes to seniors. Women, in particular, see tremendous benefi ts from strength training. Traditionally, women rely on cardiovascular activity and a low calorie diet to change their physical appearance. Unfortunately, low calorie diets merely punish the soul and decrease the metabolism. Without including consistent strength training in our program, effecting change can be an impossible goal. This class will combine strength training, yoga, and Pilates exercises. Please bring a mat to class.

During the winter, the parks department will regularly test the depth of the ice. They will also clean off the south section of the pond which will be designated for ice skating. WaiversIn accordance with the Recreation Department policy, all program participants must sign a hold-harmless agreement prior to participation in department sponsored programs. The waivers are on the bottom portion of program registration forms, designated sign-in sheets, and fi tness membership applications. These must be signed by the adult participating in an adult program; and by the parent or legal guardian of participant under 18.

Include Payment & Sign Waiver/ReleasePlease note that you need to include full payment and a signed waiver and release for your form to be processed. Credit card payments require an additional signature to authorize payment. For these reasons, we are unable to accept phone-in registrations.

In Case of an ErrorComplete details of program policies, procedures and guidelines are sometimes omitted from the program brochures because of space limitations. Also, errors in days, times, registration requirements and fees may occur as well. We apologize for any errors that may appear in the brochure. We thank you for your patience and understanding when these situations arise.

Program Room and Area Locations Sometimes Move Around!Program locations are subject to change. Roselle Park District staff reserves the right to make changes to room/area locations if deemed necessary for the participation and safety of all our registrants and programs. This type of fl exibility is necessary to ensure that all planned program sessions can meet and activities can go as planned.

Register Early Nothing ruins a good program quicker than everyone waiting until the last minute to register for it. There is a point where if there aren’t enough registrants to hold the pro-gram, it is cancelled. Coming in the day of, or the day before the program won’t resurrect it. Please register at least a week early to avoid disappointment.

Registration Registration for programs begins as soon as the brochures are sent out.

Receipt Confirming Your ClassAll receipts will be sent out as soon as the registration forms are processed.

Registration will continue until classes are fi lled or cancelled due to low enrollment (at the discretion of the corresponding Recreation Supervisor).

ResidencyNot all Roselle residents are Roselle Park District residents. Even though you may have a Roselle address, you may pay taxes to another park district. Therefore, proof of residency is required when registering for programs for the fi rst time. This may be done with a driver’s license, utility bill, (or a mortgage statement for those who are recently moving to the area). Roselle Park District residents support the district through property tax contributions and therefore these residents have fi rst priority in the registration process each program period.

Non Resident FeesUnless specifi ed by a particular program, the non-resident program fee is an additional $10 or 50% of the regular fee, whichever is less. This does not apply to facility rentals. For all facility rentals, Clauss Recreation Center, or Turner Park, there is a consistent $25 increase for non-residents in addition to the stated resident fees.

Wait List ProcessA wait list is formed when a class reaches participant levels beyond the maximum. The wait list is designed to maintain interested people in a holding area until more spaces in the program are available, someone drops out, transfers, or a new section is added by park district staff based on interest. The wait list is maintained based on the order we process registrations. Customers will be contacted for confi rmation before being added to one of our wait lists (or transferred from a wait list into the desired program) by the front desk or specifi c program supervisor. Please note: before a participant is transferred into a program all corresponding paperwork and payments are required.

Returned Check PolicyWe gladly accept personal checks as payment. If for any reason a check is returned to our offi ce marked “NSF,” we will contact you. You will then be required to submit a full cash or money order payment, as well as a $30 bookkeeping fee, within a ten business day period. Class privileges will be suspended and new registration will not be accepted until payment is received.

What About Insurance? The Roselle Park District does not provide medical coverage for injuries suffered while participating in park district programs, or while using park facilities. The Park District, therefore, cannot assume responsibility for personal injury for persons participating in a recreation program or using facilities. Patrons are advised to make provisions for this coverage in their own personal insurance program.

Refund PolicyThe Roselle Park District endorses a customer satisfaction policy and strives to provide high quality programs, services, and facilities. However, sometimes expectation levels or situations occur that do not meet the satisfaction of our customers and a refund request is made.

If for any reason you are requesting a refund, please contact the Park District at (630) 894-4200 or come by in person to submit a request.

1. All refund requests must be made at least two business days before the fi rst class meeting or practice of program.

2. Trips and special events require reservations and planning weeks ahead of time and therefore do not allow us to accept refund requests unless there is a wait list and someone can fi ll the spot.

3. Individuals requesting refunds with two or more business days notice, prior to the fi rst class meeting or practice will receive a full refund, less $5 for administrative costs.

4. No refunds will be issued for any program after second meeting of a program, unless a physician’s note is provided. Refund requested for medical reasons will be prorated from the time the request is received.

5. Refunds with facility rental fees:

6. The Park District will not issue refunds for fi tness center memberships or Lake Park High School student parking permits.

7. Some classes, programs, and fees have specifi c refund policies that will be adhered to.

8. The Park District reserves the right to judge refund requests on a case-by-case basis and partial or full refunds may or may not be approved at any time at the discretion of the district.

9. Refunds can take up to fi fteen business days.

What If I Have A Special Need?Participants who require special assistance during park district programs should note their needs on the registration form and call (630) 894-4200 to notify the park district.

The Western Dupage Special Recreation Association may be contacted at (630) 681-0962 for additional services. Please note: there is a box to check on our program registration form to alert our Front Desk Attendants and Recreation Supervisors that these services are desired for any given program.
