Romania’s vegetation is represented according to the following criteria :

• - vertically, according to the characteristics of the climate, relief and altitude ;

• - horizontally, according to each Romania’s historical region.

Romania’s flora includes all identified as well as classified plants on our country’s territory.

Until now, there have been identified and classified 3700 species of plants, among which 23 have been declared monuments of the Nature.

The three great areas of vegetation are:

1. The steppe area

2. The deciduous and coniferous forest area

3. The alpine area

The steppe lawns include grassy plants ( feather grass, hair grass, artemisia) and they are located in the east of

Romanian Plain, the south of Moldavia and of Dobrodgea. The brambles include the wild rose, dwarf almond and

jasmine.

The deciduous forest begins under the form of the forest steppe and it can be met in the plain and the Danube Delta area.The shrub home is represented by the common elder tree and the wild rose.

The trees are represented by beech, lime, hornbeam, sessile, pubescent oak, these forming the beech and oak forest, covering the area between 600-1300 m altitude. There are mushrooms, lichens, moss on the bark of the trees and there are ferns, mushrooms, snowdrops, lilies of the valley, etc. on the ground.

The coniferous forest covers the middle mountainous area at 1300-1700m altitude. The trees are represented by the hazelnut, currant, huckleberry. Among the coniferous trees, there are the fir tree, the pine and the spruce and under their shade one can see the moss, mushrooms, lichens and ferns.

The alpine stage is located above 1700 m altitude; the plants, which are adapted to the cold and wet climate, are represented by the dwarf willow, the huckleberry, the currant, juniper.

In this category there are included the China pink from the Piatra Craiului Mountains, the iris and saxifraga of Bucegi, the Parang flemish, the Retezat mouse car, The tulip of Danube Basins, The Cross Hale from Tampa Reservation , Brasov.

Iasi Botanical Garden is the oldest botanical garden in Romania. It was founded in 1856, the first university botanical garden founded in Romania and, while most of the country, unique in the number of plants and their conservative values, including 6,000 plants grown in greenhouses and outdoors. Hold the largest share plants from different biogeographical regions.
