One of my favorite things to do when I am visiting my parent’s home is explore our family chest of photos. Each time I shuffle through the letters, trinkets and old images, I always find something new that sticks with me. This past summer, I stumbled upon an old 1920’s photo of my grandparents on their wedding day. The groom was dapper in his Army uniform, with a coy smile and sparkle in his eyes. The bride was glowing; I could still see the rosy hues in her cheeks through the faded image. Her dress was a delicate silk, with a high neckline and lace detailing. It was her wedding day and she was beautiful. Even today, at the young age of 92, my Nana still has that wedding day look!

It’s these timeless love stories that inspired us for this fall & winter issue of Rocky Mountain Bride Colorado. Classics are timeless for a reason - they simply never go out of style. In this issue, we took those ageless style cues and gave them a modern-day twist for today’s bride! From the RMB Gown Guide featuring iconic silhouettes with a new twist, or drawing inspiration from the rich mining history of Crested Butte for our featured style shoot, the past is full of classic ideas for your wedding day!

We at Rocky Mountain Bride are so excited to help you throughout your wed-ding journey! I hope these pages inspire you to use the past as a muse for your classic Rocky Mountain “I Do.”

Morgan & Brett beaver creek

Brett and Morgan met at Texas Tech when one of her Tri-Delta pledge sisters took Brett to the sorority’s Halloween party.

Once they met, the rest was history! A couple years later while on a backpacking trip through Italy, Brett suprised Morgan by asking her to be his wife. Talk about a romantic location! Brett

proposed to Morgan at the Piazzale Michaelangelo while overlooking Florence. The two love to ski, and fittingly, chose to celebrate becoming Mr. and Mrs. at the Westin Beaver Creek on August 1st. Over 150 friends and family made the trip to

Colorado to celebrate their love story!

Rocky Mountain Bride Colorado28 rockymountainbride.com

Page 31: Rocky Mountain Bride Colorado Fall & Winter 2015

The Theme: Morgan and Brett’s romantic wedding was inspired by an Art Nouveau and Bohemian design. They used a color palette of fuchsia, black and gold to create the look.

The Dress: The bride’s stunning Martina Liana gown was the perfect complement to her wedding design and Rocky Mountain backdrop. The dress featured a scalloped lace hem, an airy silk organza skirt and a complimenting lace keyhole back jacket, that she wore for the ceremony, along with her mother-in-law’s pearl earrings. After the “I Do,” Morgan removed the lace jacket to show off the dress’s button detail in the back and sweetheart neckline!

real wedding

Rocky Mountain Bride Colorado rockymountainbride.com 29

Page 32: Rocky Mountain Bride Colorado Fall & Winter 2015

The Flowers: Morgan wanted her flowers to be loose, romantic and to really capture her Art Nouveau and Bohemian theme. For her bouquet, she selected flowing, textured floral like dahlias, cosmos, garden roses, veronica, James Storey Orchids and seasonal greenery. The blooms were shades of pink, blush, raspberry and coral, with hints of plum and red. For her ladies, she chose a similar style and added in fiddlehead ferns and anemones.

The Favorite Detail: Morgan’s favorite wedding detail was the black and white stripe table runners and their gold

“Mr. & Mrs. Howard” cake topper!

The First Dance: The newlyweds danced to “You’ll Always Be Loved By Me” by Brooks and Dunn. Morgan grew up listening to country music and loves two-step, so it was really no surprise that she had already picked out the Brooks and Dunn song long before she was even old enough to have a boyfriend. It is still one of her favorites because of the mean-ingful lyrics and now because it was their first dance melody. Brett isn’t really a two-stepper, but he agreed to the music because of Morgan’s love for the song.

real wedding

Rocky Mountain Bride Colorado30 rockymountainbride.com

Page 33: Rocky Mountain Bride Colorado Fall & Winter 2015

The Food: Morgan and Brett wanted to serve their guests local, fresh cuisine. For the first course, guests enjoyed a mixed field green salad with berries, goat cheese, spiced nuts, and raspberry vinaigrette. For the main course, guests chose from pan-seared Colorado trout, fingerling potatoes, cherry tomatoes, arugula, shallots, lemon olive oil and herbs, or filet mignon and crushed potatoes, roasted baby carrots, and garden beans.

The Sweets: The couple served a decadent red velvet cake.

Mr. and Mrs. Moment: “In the middle of the reception’s dance party, Nate and Jenny pulled us out to get some shots while the sun was setting by the river. We laughed and had 5-10 minutes to ourselves. It was truly a blessing to get to enjoy each other for those brief moments while no one was around.“

Advice for RMB Brides: “If you have a small rain delay and your wedding is outside (like what hap-pened to us), don’t even stress. Just start the cocktail hour early for guests and have a glass of champagne to calm the nerves!”

Morgan & Frank mt. evans

Morgan and Frank became husband and wife on July 31st. The two met years ago and reconnected when Morgan, owner of Lady Ilg

Photography, needed her website re-done, and Frank was the man for the job! Their conversations quickly shifted from the website, to

learning about each other and their passions. On a snowy De-cember night, Frank surprised Morgan with a downtown Denver proposal, followed by a fabulous celebration with their family! As

Morgan is in the wedding industry, she really wanted to focus on her and Frank’s love and the importance of marriage, so they opted for a simple, yet stunningly gorgeous elopement at the same cabin Frank took Morgan to years back when he asked her to be his girlfriend.

Rocky Mountain Bride Colorado36 rockymountainbride.com

Page 39: Rocky Mountain Bride Colorado Fall & Winter 2015

The Elopement Style: Morgan and Frank kept their wedding day simple, classic and all about their love. They let the beautiful scenery be their decor and kept each detail focused around each other.

The Flowers: “My sister made me a bouquet out of wild flowers picked from nearby the cabin where we were getting married. When it came to spending money on our wedding, we chose to spend money on things that would actually last (pictures) and the wild flowers ended up being perfect (and free!!!).”

The Dress: Morgan snagged a steal-of-a-deal Vera Wang gown from David’s Bridal. It was perfect and just like the dress she always dreamed of wearing!

The Celebration: Morgan and Frank barbecued at the cabin and had hot dogs and hamburgers! For their reception with family and friends, they had Qdoba cater, which was perfect as the two bonded over Qdoba while dating.

Mr. and Mrs. Moment: “Our favorite Mr and Mrs moment had to have been at our reception. We chose to serve everyone food first because we wanted to start off our marriage with servi-tude, and that ended up being so much fun! We really enjoyed it.”

Favorite Wedding Detail: “We tried not to care about the details and to care more about what was really happen-ing--a marriage. Every detail we planned for our wedding came down to what we thought really mattered, so I guess that would be our ceremony. We loved it, no planning went into it, but it was absolutely perfect for us.”

Advice to RMB Brides: “People will tell you what you need to do for your wedding (I see this all the time at the weddings I photograph) but you need to stick with what YOU want to do. It’s not always easy, especially if you want to please everyone, but if you end up doing what other people tell you to do, you will end up having someone else’s dream wedding, rather than YOUR dream wedding. We wouldn’t have changed a single thing about our wedding, we loved every thing we did for it, it was perfect for us, and we did EXACTLY what we wanted to do!”

Megan & Michael hesperus

Megan and Michael met reluctantly when Megan’s mom and her friend, who worked with Michael, had her tag along to the company holiday party. They kept pointing out a handsome blonde man and telling Megan how great he was. Soon the handsome blonde man came up to them, gave Megan a head nod, a handshake and “Hi, I’m Mike,” and then vanished as fast as he appeared. Megan thought that was the end of that, until Michael asked a mutual friend of theirs for her number. Their first date was at Lola in Highlands. The second

Megan saw Michael waiting for her, she knew her life would never be the same. Michael surprised Megan on her 30th birthday with a Steamboat

Springs proposal and the two spent the remainder of the weekend hiking on cloud nine! The couple planned a mountain-inspired wedding on August 2nd, filled with gorgeous views of the Rockies, love and endless memories of the

best day of their life!

Page 49: Rocky Mountain Bride Colorado Fall & Winter 2015

The Theme: Megan and Michael wanted their wedding to be an elegant, yet laid-back mountain celebration filled with fabulous food, drinks and dancing! They chose their wedding colors based on the flowers. Megan tells us that The Ranch was so beautiful that they wanted to match it, rather than take away from it, so they chose poppy orange to match the wildflowers, navy and neutral tones.

The Dress: “Going into dress shopping, I knew two things: 1. I wanted to be able to dance my heart out in my dress without worrying about a wardrobe malfunction, and 2. I didn’t want to look like every other bride. We walked into the bridal salon and my mom immediately picked up a dress and motioned me over to her. She showed me a dress that I felt looked terrible on the hanger, so my response to her dress selection was ‘Eww, gross and no thank you.’ I proceeded to look around the shop and gathered three dresses that I felt suited my vision. I tried these dresses on, and although they were beautiful, something was missing. My mom begged me to please give her dress choice a try. I thought to myself, ‘What do I have to lose?’ I slipped the dress on, opened the curtain to the dressing room and looked into the mirror to see the bridal consultant, my mother and the other guests in the bridal salon staring at me, gasping, with tears in their eyes. I have never felt more beautiful in anything in my life. My advice to all brides is to try a dress on even if it isn’t wowing you on the hanger.”

Page 50: Rocky Mountain Bride Colorado Fall & Winter 2015

The Flowers: “The way that most brides feel about their wedding dress is how I felt about my flowers. I knew I wanted a wild, lush feel to my flowers with tons of color and texture. Natalie with April’s Garden blew me away with her creativity and execution of my vision. They were simply breathtaking.”

The Favorite Detail: Michael’s favorite wedding detail was the stunning location. Everywhere they looked, guests were surrounded by all the reasons people love Colorado and the mountains. Megan’s favorite wedding detail from the day was their hand-written ceremony and vows. From start to finish, their whole wedding reflected who they are.

The Food: Megan and Michael described their food as “out of this world!” A year later, guests are still raving. Their family-style dinner was farm-inspired and delish!

Rocky Mountain Bride Colorado48 rockymountainbride.com

Page 51: Rocky Mountain Bride Colorado Fall & Winter 2015

The Sweets: The couple served a small two-tier Almond Joy cake with chocolate frosting for their “cutting cake,” along with mixed berry cobbler and homemade vanilla bean ice cream!

Mr. and Mrs. Moment: Michael’s favorite moment was exchanging vows. He says, “Our vows were so personal to us because we wrote them together.” Megan’s favorite moment was walking down the aisle to marry Mike and realizing that all her wildest dreams were coming true.

Advice for RMB Brides: “Try not to sweat the small stuff, it really will all work out. Take time to soak it all in because it will be over before you know it. Get a videographer; not having one is our only regret. It would be nice to relive the day not only through photos and memories.”

Tara & Nick denver

Tara and Nick knew of each other for several months before officially meeting during the summer of 2013. Yet it wouldn’t be until September that Nick worked up enough courage to ask Tara out on a date. That night of putt-putt golf must have been a game-changer, as it inevitably led to another date. One year later, Nick proposed to Tara on top of Mt. Falcon at sunrise, complete with a love letter, a surprise breakfast picnic and a resounding “YES” from Tara! The two said “I Do” on a crisp

January17th in Denver and celebrated Gatsby-style with all the people they love!

Rocky Mountain Bride Colorado72 rockymountainbride.com

Page 75: Rocky Mountain Bride Colorado Fall & Winter 2015

The Theme: Tara and Nick planned a 1920’s Great Gatsby soiree for their January wedding! The color palette of champagne, gold, amber, white and navy added to the festive nature of their day!

The Dress: In keeping with the roaring 20’s theme, Tara wore a stunning Theia gown, adorned with hand-embroidered porcelain glass and mirror sequins.

The Flowers: One of Tara’s best friends is the talented Cori of Cori Cook Floral Design. Tara was very familiar with her fabulous work, and couldn’t think of a better fit for her wedding day design. Tara and Nick were not well-versed in floral, so they gave Cori the day’s thematic motif and allowed her to design the perfect petals, which they loved!

The Favorite Detail: “One of our favorite details: our ceremony location. It is the building our church family meets in each week. It is beautiful and was fun and comforting to be in a familiar place among a lot of the ‘unknown’ details of the day. While we could have had the ceremony anywhere, we were thankful that we got to celebrate with family and friends at this specific location. Another fun detail was our ‘exit’ song for the ceremony…we danced out to the always favorite ‘SHOUT!’”

Page 76: Rocky Mountain Bride Colorado Fall & Winter 2015

The First Dance: Tara and Nick danced to “Where I Belong” by Cory Asbury. While it is not a well-known song, Tara first heard it in college and thought the words were fitting and significant for her wedding.

The Food: The couple didn’t want to serve their guests “traditional” wedding food, so they opted for a BBQ feast from Rocky Mountain Catering! Guests enjoyed brisket, chicken and pork paired with several sides, including their favorite: mac n’ cheese.

The Sweets: Tara and Nick served a lovely four-tier butter cream frosted cake, embellished with simple gold beading and fresh floral. The cake was filled with all of the couple’s favorite flavors - lemon poppyseed and white cake with dark chocolate ganache and fresh caramel filling. Yum!

Page 77: Rocky Mountain Bride Colorado Fall & Winter 2015

Mr. and Mrs. Moment: “After all of the waiting, preparing and anticipating, walking out of the ceremony as Bride and Groom had to have been a favorite moment. Our photographers had a car waiting for us right when we walked out of the ceremony. We snuck away to a near by park to take a few photos; It was nice to have a few quiet and still moments together before the celebration continued.”

Advice to RMB Brides: “If possible, hire a wedding planner or coordinator. They help make the preparation less stressful and help you and your family be present and enjoy the day of celebration. Also, find vendors whose work you like but can also trust…and then trust them to do what they do best. We were able to communicate a big-picture vision and necessary details about the wedding day and then trust the vendors to help create and carry the vision through. There are always going to be details that get missed or things that go differently than planned, so try to set reasonable expectations about the wedding week and day. If possible, don’t think about details on the wedding day. Enjoy what has been prepared and celebrate fully!”

Three Words: Anticipation, Joy, Celebration.

twist to the classic 1920’s design. Chandeliers are adorned with greenery to freshen up the space, and a rich, coal runner combined the history of the area with modern wedding looks, softened with lush floral

and candlelight. Time to party!

the wine loverswine country inn, palisade

the inside story

the lodging

the perks

Wine Country Inn, located in the heart of Colorado’s wine industry in Palisade, is the perfect getaway for the wine connoisseurs. Imagine rocking on their porches with your new hubby and sipping a glass of wine pro-duced from grapes grown right on the property. Now, that’s a vineyard honeymoon! Explore the iconic attrac-tions of the Little Bookcliffs Wild Horse Preserve, the

alpine coolness of the Grand Mesa or the dramatic vistas of the Colorado National Monument within minutes

from the Inn. From wine tastings to river rafting, fly-fish-ing, and all the R & R in-between, Wine Country Inn is your perfect Colorado getaway as husband and wife.

The Inn’s welcoming 80-room Victorian style hotel is set in 21acres of working vines. Adjacent to two wineries and a short drive from two dozen tasting rooms within 15 miles of the property, the boutique Inn is Colorado’s first wine-themed full-service hotel. Sink into their plush bedding and drift off to a perfect night’s sleep together. Carefully restored historic photographs create a home-like, welcoming ambiance to all the rooms, and lounge

chair and ottoman create the perfect afternoon reading nook. For the newlyweds looking for some quality time together as husband and wife, Wine Country Inn is the ultimate getaway for relaxation. To learn more about the amenities and accommodations of Wine Country Inn,

please visit coloradowinecountryinn.com.

After you’ve relaxed in the hot tub or cooled off in the Inn’s seasonal pool, you’ll be ready to visit orchards, wineries, shops or galleries nearby, followed by dinner at The Inn’s elegant Caroline’s Restaurant. They specialize in fresh, local farm-to-table produce, including Palisade’s legendary Palisade peaches and Colorado-raised lamb, beef and trout prepared in the classical French style.

Make sure to pair your meal with Wine Country Inn’s private label wines made from grapes grown in their

own vineyards! Cap the night off with a signature cocktail and small bites at their cozy Tapestry Lounge and cheers

to a getaway to celebrate married life!

the adventurerspark city, utah

the history

the lodging

the perks

Located in the heart of Park City, Utah, only a 35-min-ute drive from Salt Lake City International Airport, Park

City is home to gorgeous mountains and the perfect getaway location for honeymooners! Earlier this year,

they released a $50 million dollar plan to combine Park City Mountain Resort and Canyons Resort to create

the largest resort in the United States -- Park City. For the couple who can’t get enough of the outdoors, Park City will be able to provide 7,300 acres, 300+ trails, 41 lifts, seven terrain parks, 14 bowls, two half pipes, one super pipe and one mini pipe - hello, outdoors! With a

vibrant town and endless amounts of events, Park City is your perfect getaway as husband and wife! To learn more

about all Park City offers, please visit www.parkcitymountain.com

Any four-season resort bold enough to call itself world-class had better feature a signature hotel worthy of the distinction. Park City offers a multitude with six separate

resorts located slopeside in Canyons Village. We rec-ommend the luxurious retreat of the Silverado Lodge. It’s masterfully designed for the most discriminating of

tastes, complete with cozy fireplaces, vaulted ceilings and oversized decks grace many of the suites. The property features an outdoor pool and hot tub, fitness center, steam room and sauna and is walking distance to the

slopes. After a long day of skiing, the Silverado Lodge has all you need to feel at home together and take in all of

the beauty that is Park City.

After a day exploring the mountain, enjoy a roman-tic dinner together at one of Park City’s divine dining restaurants, like The Farm, named one of “Utah’s 25

Best Restaurants” in 2015. At The Farm, you’ll find fresh, prepared from scratch, sustainably-raised fare. Whenever possible, they strive to source from local farms and pur-veyors. We recommend starting with the Local Char-

cuterie Board, followed by the Idaho Sturgeon or Sugar House Herb-Brined Tomahawk Pork Chop. For dessert, the Slide Ridge Honey Cake, with caramelized pears and toasted almonds, is the perfect sweet bite to end a day

celebrating married life!
