Mr Stewart RossMOCK TRIALLast Friday All Saints’ competed in Round 2 of the Mock Trial competition against Redbend Catholic College from Forbes. Our team consisted of Greta Wass and Charlotte Brew as barristers, Hannah Thompson as the solicitor, Jacob Thompson and Lyndsay Menzies as witnesses and Christian Westenfelder as magistrate’s clerk. ASC were acting as the Prosecution in a criminal case where the defendant was charged with setting fire to the Kids Chaos Youth Centre. Although ASC had an eye witness who saw the defendant trying to break in to the building and later running from the burning building this was not enough evidence to prove our case beyond reasonable doubt. The defendant claimed to have been celebrating his birthday at a pub with friends for the entire evening and Redbend’s other witness supported this alibi. Redbend was a
strong team consisting of all Year 11 students and we lost 227-215 points. We now look forward to receiving materials for Round 3.THE ROYAL BATHURST SHOWThe school, as usual, will have a stand at the Royal Bathurst Show from Friday to Sunday. A number of staff will be there so please drop in and say hello. Please make some time to go the Cattle Pavilion as students will be showing some Belted Galloways and Scottish Highland cattle.CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTIONCharlotte Brew has been selected to participate in the New South Wales Schools Constitutional Convention at Parliament House, Macquarie St, Sydney, on Monday 17th June 2013. As in previous years, the students at the NSW Convention will select 30 of their number to attend the 3-day National Constitutional Convention held in Canberra, early 2014. For the first time this year, the 30 delegates selected to attend the National Schools Constitutional Convention will have the opportunity to express an interest in attending the Regional Youth Parliament, to be held in Honiara, Solomon Islands from 24th September to 1st October, 2013. Congratulations Charlotte.CRICKETS BIG HOPEIt has been a stellar season for Max Hope with
his cricket this year. He has just been selected for the NSW U19 Academy which places him in good stead for the NSW U19 side. Another great achievement! I hear some Sydney grade teams have talent scouts out looking at him.HOLIDAYSJust a reminder that tomorrow is a normal school day and boarders will be travelling home during or after school depending on public transport. School commences on Tuesday, 30th April. Please don’t get confused with Government schools as most have 2 staff development days at the beginning of next term. Term 2 is winter uniform so please get those blazers dry-cleaned over the holiday break!FAST FACT Most managers believe that they are very good at sizing up and choosing people, despite their lack of preparation, experience and a track record replete with mistakes. In other words, our snap judgments tend to be long on snap and short on judgment. Claudio Fernandez Araoz in Great People Decisions Thought: A goal is a dream with a deadline. Napoleon Hill

Then Jesus said to him, “Follow me!” (John 21:19, NIV). Jesus’ call to Peter comes at the end of his third appearance to the Disciples after his resurrection. Jesus appeared to the Disciples on the day he was resurrected with the greeting, “Peace be with you!” He appeared again a week later with the same greeting but also a challenge to Thomas, “Touch me...stop doubting and believe.” His third appearance recorded by John sees Jesus reinstating Peter as a key disciple and
Rev. Tony Card
also challenging him to follow. These stories are recorded in chapters 20 and 21 of the Gospel of John.John uses this pattern of three to emphasise the credibility and truth of what he is recording. We see it in Peter’s denial of Christ after his arrest - three times he denies knowing Jesus. John wants us to understand that Peter really did deny Jesus. He uses the same technique in the reinstatement of Peter - Jesus asked Peter three times if he loved him and three times Peter answered “Yes.” John wants us to understand that Peter really was reinstated by Jesus. Finally John records only three appearances of Jesus to the Disciples, others record more and different appearances and John himself
tells us that there were other appearances that he didn’t record. By recording the three John wants us to understand that Jesus really is alive. This is good news for all of us!The other good news to be gained from these three events is that Jesus meets us just where we are and is prepared to do whatever is needed to reach out to us. The disciples were shown his wounds to prove that it was really him; Thomas was invited to touch him in order to overcome his doubt; Peter and the others were fed by Jesus before issuing his challenge to Peter. The good news for us is that wherever we are Jesus is reaching out to us with the promise of an abundant life with him. Will we take his hand? With every blessing for the holidays,
Rev. Tony Card

Friday afternoon (5th April) saw a record number of families exploring the College and its magnificent grounds at the annual Open Day. With more than 80 visitors in attendance, the Bathurst weather behaved and provided a delightful backdrop to a very happy afternoon, the highlight of which for the writer was a series of musical performances given by our amazing senior school musicians. Senior Concert Band, Guitar Ensemble (always cool!) as well as singer soloists - Max Hope (Year 12) and Sarah Morris (Year 11), the Senior Stage Band and A Capella group each entertained the crowd with professional-standard performances. The music for the afternoon was prepared and directed by Mr Jon Clipsham. Daisy the cow, an ‘autumn lamb’ in pen with a less than enthusiastic pig, along with a set of quail and rabbits completed the Ag Science contingent. This menagerie was arranged and tended by our young Ag
students and their enthusiastic teacher, Mr Mark Whitfeld. Add to the mix a number of beautifully groomed horses and students in College riding livery and the perfect picture of a great rural school was complete. More than 80 visitors enjoyed exploring the Junior and Senior College facilities which included a display of the 21st Century classrooms, the College Library, Design and Technology facilities among others. The afternoon concluded with Devonshire tea on the lawn to the strains of jazz with visitors enjoying informal conversations with College Prefects, Head of College Dr Peter Miller, Head of Senior School Stewart Ross and Head of Junior School Mr Chris Jackman. Sincere thanks to all of the many students and staff from across the school whose willing contributions made this All Saints’ Open Day such a success.Hot on the heels of Open Day 2013 was the All Saints’ presence at the Millthorpe Markets held on Sunday, 7 April. Another glorious autumn day provided the backdrop for a very successful College event on so many levels. Organised by the Millthorpe Public School the 2013 Autumn Market attracted a large and happy crowd which guaranteed a steady flow of enquirers throughout the day at the All Saints’ booth. Some great
conversations were had with a number of OBU visitors which included one venerable gentleman from the class of 1938. My sincere thanks to Dr Miller for a very early start to his Sunday, and to Mr Ross and Mrs Parnell for their generosity and support of this event. This coming weekend will see us all at the Royal Bathurst Show 2013. Please pop by for a cuppa and a chat or just to rest a while in the All Saints’ tent. There will be a special hour of music, refreshments and cocktail food at 5pm on Saturday evening. I sincerely hope to see you there.
