  • Tips to Make your letter Professional Research the company and the specifics about the position to tailor your letter to the position Avoid using too many sentences that in the passive voice (ex. "This experience enabled me to..." or "Through my internship, I was responsible for..."); instead, make yourself the subject of each sentence and use active descriptions (ex., "In this internship, I demonstrated sound judgment and problem-solving skills on a daily basis.").

    Your contact information is CRUCIAL! How else can employers follow up with you if they cannot decipher your contact details. Make sure these are straight forward and easy to read. It should not take up a large portion of your resume either.This section is extremely important. As underclassmen: Freshmen and Sophomores, it is crucial that you highlight your academic accomplishments- you have not yet had the opportunity to gain substantial work experience. So your academic experience is an important one. Each bullet should start with a strong action verb, NOT the location or description of the organization or any first person narrative I, We, etc.Student activities highlight your sense of community and ability to work in teams. Be sure to focus on your contributions to the group and not just a grocery list of groups and clubs you are a member of.Be specific and do not embelish!
