Types of IntegrationThere are four main ways in which to integrate Redcell into the OSS environment;

2

4

3

SNMP trap forwarding1

Mail gateway

Script-based integration

Bi-Directional API / Redcell Dynamic Controller

Firstly it is possible to configure Redcell to automatically send SNMP traps to multiple 3 rd party applications once Redcell discovers that some event has happened either within the Redcell environment or on the network.

It is also possible to configure Redcell to automatically send mail via a mail gateway to OSS Incident Handling Systems, such as Remedy. When Redcell receives an alert that it is configured to react to, the mail gateway is used to send a message to the IHS to open a ticket. The contents of the mail are configurable and this method can be used in conjunction with other actions as a result of detecting network or system messages.

Redcell is also able to launch and pass parameters to user-defined scripts when configured to do so when an undesirable condition has been detected on the network or in the Redcell environment.

Redcell contains a web-based API that permits b-directional information exchange with 3 rd party OSS systems. These applications can use this API to request information from Redcell or from the network via Redcell, as well as sending configuration and activation commands to the network.

Database

The Redcell platform consists of four run-time software components: Application service, Mediation service, Database and Clients.

The Application Service is the systems central processing unit, being responsible for serving Redcell Applications to the Redcell Clients and executing application business logic. The Application Service can be deployed in standalone or clustered mode to limit downtime and optimize performance.

The Redcell Mediation Server manages the communication between the software and the network elements. Mediation servers can be deployed in standalone or clustered mode in order to maintain constant communication with the network elements.

Redcell ships with a MySQL database which can be deployed in standalone mode . Alternatively, the product can ship with an Oracle gateway ensuring that the Database Service can be deployed in a fault tolerant configuration to ensure data integrity.

The normal client access to Redcell is via a Java Client application that can be installed on one of the Redcell supported platforms. This gives the operator access to the full range of Redcell capabilities. In contrast, there is also a Redcell HTTP client that is designed to deliver virtually the same functions as the Java Client, minus the Redcell Service Centre Applications.
