GenresThere are hundreds probably even thousands of genres of films but the 5 most commonly known are; Horror, Comedy, Action, Science Fiction (Sci-fi) and Romance there all genres that target specific audiences to make them want to watch the film, the most successful genre in the movie industry is action as they have the biggest profit in the midst of genres. Personally my preference of genre is Horror because of the intensity and the camera angles in some of the films are effective because it creates a frightening atmosphere which is the objective of the film and that is what it is made for.

Horror is a genre of fiction which is intended to/or has the capacity, to frighten, scare, disgust, or startle their readers or viewers by inducing feelings of horror and terror. The aim of a horror film is to scare the audience and if the audience does not feel that then its aim is not being achieved however the modern day horror has changed as CGI has been introduced over the last decade which allows producers to create a more realistic environment and create the sense of horror to the audience. The development of camera quality has come a long way since the likes of Scream and The Exorcist as the quality is not as good as films in 2016 such as Hush and The Conjuring 2 which allows the audience to catch all the details during the film. Independent horrors are really good as production of a horror film is significantly less then any other genre and they are more profitable.

You can see from the movie posters there is a difference from 1990s to the new era of 2010s, the movie posters of horrors are more intense and sinister which attracts audience to watch the film. HORROR

Action An action film is a genre of film which one or more heroes are thrust into a series of challenges that typically include physical tests, fight scenes, violence frantic chases. This major genre type includes films that have tremendous impact, continuous high energy, lots of physical stunts and activity, possibly extended races, rescues, battles, martial arts, mountains and mountaineering, destructive, fights, escapes, non-stop action, spectacular rhythm and pacing, and adventurous heroes. The adventurous heroes are all designed for pure audience escapism with the action sequences at the core of the film. The development of action films over the last decade has improved dramatically because of the discovery of CGI and special effects these have helped action films massively as it has allowed more stunts to take part and more action to happen and makes explosions and car chases and whatnot much more real so make the audience will have a sense of verisimilitude.

COMEDYThe objective of a comedy film is to just amuse the audience and make them laugh with significant jokes that may relate to them, this is a different way to distribute comedy than watching just stand-up comedy. Comedy genre has grossed loads during the 21st century due to the new generation. Examples of comedy films are Paul, Ride Along, Step-brothers and Scary Movie. There are so many ways in which comedy can be distributed so making a comedy film would be easy as an actors movement during the film may make them laugh, a joke a character said or just something immature that it makes them laugh, comedy is a film that 1 in 8 people would prefer to watch which means that the genre is one of the ones that people enjoy most. Some comedy films actually insult celebrities, religion, other movies and races which in some cases is considered “not a laughing matter” –Tim Burton said during a comedy film in which was never named but he said that the director went too far with the humor and it was not something to joke about. Comedy has not really changed it is literally just joking about different situations that is the only development because no CGI would be used in a comedy film unless it was a cross genre with action. ROMANCEThe plot usually revolves around an obstacle which prevents deep and true romantic love between two people. Music is often employed to indicate the emotional mood, creating an atmosphere of greater insulation for the couple. The conclusion of a romantic drama typically does not indicate whether a marriage will occur. Novels of this type of genre fiction place their primary focus on the relationship and romantic love between two people, and must have an emotionally satisfying and optimistic ending, every romance film has this. Romance films all have the same narrative but they do it in different ways to keep the attraction of the audience and for the movie to just not be a copy cat unless it is a repackaged film.
