A production logo is a logo used by film studios and television

production companies to brand what they produce. Production logos are usually seen at the

beginning of a theatrical movie or video game (an "opening logo"), or at the end of a television program

or TV movie (a "closing logo"). They are always included in film trailers to give the audience a suggestion

of what the film could be like based on past productions. Many

production logos have become famous over the years, such as the 20th Century Fox's monument and searchlights, Paramount Pictures'

mountain, Universal Studio's spinning globe, Columbia Pictures's personification of Columbia, MGM's

Leo the Lion, and Walt Disney Pictures' fantasy castle. Unlike

logos for most other media, production logos can take advantage of motion and

synchronized sound, and almost always do.

I like both of these simple production logos. I like the simplicity of the colour scheme (mainly just black and white). Also I like the thin white font, it stands out and is easy to read. Both of these logos incorporate the colour blue just to add something else to the logo making it appear less boring. I also love the idea of using ‘film’ instead of ‘productions’ like Strada.

I like this logo because of the illustration, it gives a

kind of vintage feel and the colours used are striking yet simple so the image sticks

in your mind which is a important specification that my logo needs to have in

order for the film to attract a large audience and create

a large revenue.

I like the distressed effect used on this

logo however I think that this logo

would suit films made that fit the

action/thriller/horror genre rather than

my romance/drama

genre. I think this logo is interesting as the title ‘blooming’ cleverly fits the

design of the film roll shaped into a flower.

Clever techniques and ideas like this are

the types of thing that the audience are likely to remember.

I have started to look at films with a similar genre and feel to the trailer I wish to create, and have researched into their production companies so that I have a deeper understanding of what I need to incorporate in my production logo, name etc.

1. The Perks Of Being A Wallflower – Mr. Mudd

The Perks Of Being A Wallflower is a teen drama that tackles issues that go with mental health and coming of age. Its produced by Mr. Mudd productions, a film production company founded in 1998 by Lianne Halfon, John Malkovich, and Russell Smith. The production company is also well known for producing three films Ghost World, Juno and The Perks of Being a Wallflower, all three of which received critical acclaim.

2. Safe Haven – Relativity Media, Temple Hill Entertainment (as Temple Hill), Nicholas Sparks Productions.

Relativity Media LLC is a global media company located in Beverly Hills, California. Founded in 2004 by Ryan Kavanaugh, the studio is the third largest

mini-major film studio in the world. Its full scale film studio acquires, develops, produces and distributes

films, and produces television programs.3. The Notebook and If I Stay – New Line Cinema

New Line became a unit of Warner Bros. Entertainment in March 2008. The company

maintains separate development, production, marketing, distribution and business affairs

operations, but coordinates those functions with Warner Bros. to maximize film performance and

operating efficiencies.New Line produced the Oscar Award-winning

The Lord of the Rings film trilogy.

Next I have looked into films which target a similar theme/issue such as mental health specifically degenerative brain disorder as this is what I'm thinking about tackling. I have decided to look at these films production companies as producing films with these types of topic could affect the

design and names of the companies.

4. Still Alice – Killer Films

Created in 1995 by current principals Christine Vachon and Pam Koffler, Killer Films has established itself at the forefront of American independent cinema. Known for

delivering challenging, thought-provoking and original movies from filmmakers with distinctive visions, Killer Films has produced over 60 films for both the large and

small screen.

5. The Vow – Spyglass Entertainment and Screen Gems

A car accident puts Paige in a coma, and when she wakes up with severe memory loss, her husband Leo works to win her heart again.

Screen Gems is an American film production company and division company of Sony Pictures Entertainment's Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group that has served several different purposes for its

parent companies over the decades since its incorporation.

Spyglass Entertainment was an American film production company, co-founded by Gary Barber and Roger Birnbaum in 1998.
