Context: describe your object of study. What do we already know: features,

characteristics, historical/comparative perspective, relevant facts. What is it

about: place, group etc. What places are made of and other relevant

information to get a sense of the research.

    History of the Centrale Markt

Originally built in the 1920s and 1930s, the Centrale Markt was placed at the border of the

city of Amsterdam. The local government built it to provide the city with a central place for

big merchants to sell their goods to smaller merchants. The big merchants could thus easily

transport their goods from the country side to the Centrale Markt by boat. However, in the

1950sa shift was taking place from transport by boat to transport by car/truck, as the latter

was an easier and cheaper alternative. Simultaneously the available goods at the Centrale

Markt were expanded, as the merchants started to sell more different kind of goods. Next to

vegetables, fruits and potatoes, the merchants also started to sell goods as fish and meat.

Over time, the combination of expansion and the shift from transport by boat to transportby car/truck made the current Centrale Markt (where the FCA is located) a busy place with

lots and lots of traffic. Also, as Amsterdam expended over the years, the Centrale Markt

shifted from being on the outskirts of the whole city of Amsterdam towards being just

    outside the city center.

    Current situation

The current Food Center Amsterdam in Amsterdam-West is facing a big restructuring

project. This restructuring project will start in 2015 and will take approximately twenty years

    to complete.

Literature review: brief summary of academic research on this topic. Refer to

the texts from this course. Do not use other texts. Example: Ash Amin is

relevant to use here because his work focusses on perspectives and therefore

    is relevant because

Research question: 1 main question, 2 or 3 sub questions. How are they

    related.

Methodology: how are you going to answer your research question and make

shore that the data are valid. Example: interviewing for following reasons

    better than

Two times a walk-along so see what the consumption spaces are.
