You made these good things happen—your generosity, together with that of our entire community, made countless programs, services and projects throughout the Health System possible.

Area foundations, civic organizations and individuals stepped forward to help provide state-of-the-art equipment used to deliver specialized pre-hospital care, ensure patient safety and comfort, and serve our community in times of disaster.

In addition, individuals, groups and organizations donated gifts to comfort patients and helped raise funds for special programs at Thompson Health.

We are honored to add so many new friends to our growing list of dedicated supporters.

in 2006, Lauran Throop was faced with unexpected emergency surgery. During her recovery, she and her husband Daniel searched for ways to show their gratitude for the life–saving care she received at Thompson. Since Dan’s expertise is in providing technology solutions to organizations worldwide, they decided to donate a Satellite Communication System. The 3Di Technologies Satellite and Internet Telephone System provides Thompson with telephone and internet access outside the normal external communications infrastructure. Thanks to Lauran and Daniel Throop, Thompson now has state-of-the-art communication technology to assist in protecting our community in times of disaster.

Ontario County Advanced Life support (OCALs) is in the business of saving lives every day. To continue to provide the highest level of pre-hospital care, OCALS requested state-of-the-art equipment to assist them in caring for patients requiring cardiac monitoring and life support ventilation during transport to the hospital. The Thompson Guild and the Oliver B. Merlyn Foundation responded to their emergency call by providing the funding to purchase the necessary equipment.

Technology is a wonderful thing, especially when it reduces the need for painful testing and medical procedures. Now, thanks to the generosity of the Kiwanis Club of Canandaigua, newborns at Thompson no longer need to endure a painful heel stick to obtain a few drops of blood in order to detect neonatal jaundice. With Kiwanis’ gift of a Minolta Jaundice Meter, a baby’s bilirubin level can be checked in seconds with a hand-held meter. The process is accurate, instantaneous and non-invasive.

smart Pump technology has arrived! In 2006, Thompson upgraded their IV pumps to a new generation of “Smart IV Pumps” that are designed to ensure that the right patient receives the right drug and the right dose at the right time. This equipment delivers vital medication to patients undergoing chemotherapy, pain management, surgery or extensive medical care – while substantially reducing the risk of medication errors.

COMMUNITY PARTNERS

Community Partners are individuals, civic organizations or area businesses that make an unsolicited contribution to Thompson. Some gifts are monetary, others are hand-made items for our patients and residents.

In 2006, we received the proceeds from the Rochester Home Builders’ Homearama; Tanya Curtis and Audrey Carrier’s Pink Pumpkin Walk in Honeoye; BPW’s Tickled Pink – Shopping for a Cure at Wick-edly Sent and the Country Ewe; and an Art Auction held at Finger Lakes Gallery and Frame. Employees at WCTA chose Thompson’s Pediatric Fund as the beneficiary of funds they raised. We even received contributions that were donated to Thompson through eight-year-old Abigail Wright’s birthday party!

Others, like the Emerald Acres 4H Club, Happiness House and Bloomfield Brownie Troop #251, donated hand-crafted items to the patients at Thompson Health. Their donations came to us in a variety of shapes and sizes. And, they were all put to good use – putting smiles on the faces of many individuals treated here at Thompson.

These are all wonderful gifts that truly make a difference by providing comfort to a patient or providing necessary equipment to Thompson. The M. M. Ewing Continuing Care Center is home to over 180 residents, and each year we receive many notes from the families of residents thanking our Associates for the outstanding care they provide to loved ones. The Stiggins Family recently made a gift to purchase specialized equipment for the Continuing Care Center, further enhancing the exceptional care our Associates deliver every day. The equipment provides the accurate, non-invasive diagnosis of abnormal fluid retention that affects so many of the Center’s residents.

A hot summer night by the lake set the stage for the Foundation’s Treasure Island Summer Bash on July 14th at Steamboat Landing in Canandaigua. Over 300 guests attended this year’s gala event, which was sponsored by numerous local businesses. Partiers feasted on Caribbean cuisine as Rusted Steel filled the air with mellow island drum tunes.

2006 DONORS

Even the threat of Hurricane Ernesto’s winds and rain didn’t stop the nearly 350 runners from participating in the 5th Annual Crosswinds 5K on September 2, 2006.

The event proceeds of more than $3,500 supported the purchase of a “Smart IV Pump” for the Sands Cancer Center.

Golfers and Sponsors raised over $2,500 at the Annual Brian Burke Airway Open on August 26, 2006.The 2nd Annual event was hosted at Winged Pheasant Golf Course in Shortsville.

Proceeds from this event support the purchase of equipment and the continuing education of the Ontario County Advanced Life Support (OCALS) staff.
