- 1 -

First remove all movable parts.

Now remove both locking washers at the bolts of the lever bar.Pull out the lever bar forwards and remove the guide pulley from the elongated

hole.

- 2 -

Page 3: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

Unscrew the brewing head from the boiler.

- 3 -

Page 4: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

Screw out the riser tube (clockwise)

Remove the group flange seal.

- 4 -

Page 5: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

Remove the cap nut and the counter nut of the piston rod and then slightly hammer on the piston rod when the cap nut is screwed on again.

- 5 -

Page 6: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

Now the piston rod can be pushed downward and the brewing sieve and filter holder seal come off. The piston can be pulled out downward.

- 6 -

Page 7: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

Remove the circlip by means of circlip pliers or long-nosed pliers. Afterwards remove the perforated disc.

- 7 -

Page 8: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

Now remove the piston rod seal.

Remove both lip seals from the piston. If your piston is made of plastic, we recommend replacing it by a brass piston.

- 8 -

Page 9: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

The lever group is now completely dismantled.

Dispose of the seals, descale the riser tube, and clean the group components with coffee oil solvent. Clean the perforated disc and the circlip. You can reuse

both components if they are not damaged.

To overhaul only the lever groups, we offer the following sealing kit:

Group kit 1

This kit contains all seals as well as the perforated disc and the circlip.

- 9 -

Now we proceed with dismantling the safety pressure relief valve. For this purpose, use a 16 mm open end wrench and a spark plug wrench with

lever bar.Attention! You require a flat 16 mm open end wrench, otherwise you cannot

reach the part between the boiler and the overpressure outlet!

Page 10: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

- 10 -

Page 11: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

Now remove the compressing nut at the steam valve spindle by means of a 14mm open-end wrench.

The steam valve spindle can now be completely unscrewed from the valve housing.

-11-

Page 12: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

At this point, you can push out the locking pin from the turning knob for steam by means of a punch or pointed screwdriver.

- 12 -

Page 13: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

Dispose of the seals, clean the pressing discs of brass and clean the spindle components.

Now remove the cover of the water level indicator. In case of older models, the cover is screwed on, however, in case of the newer

models it is only plugged on. The cover with screw connection has no longer been delivered by La Pavoni for some time now, however, it can be replaced by

the plug-on cover without any problem!

Please be very careful when taking off the cover as it becomes quite brittle and might break due to the steadily changing thermal stress. !

- 13 -

Page 14: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

Now unscrew the locking screw from the inspection glass holder.

- 14 -

Page 15: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

Unscrew both screw connections of the level indicator. Unscrew them completely on top and at the bottom!

The water level indicator can now be loosened by turning and taken off by pulling it upwards.

Be careful as the glass breaks easily!

- 15 -

Page 16: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

Remove the pressing discs of brass and the silicone seals on top and at the bottom without leaving any residuals.

- 16 -

Page 17: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

Dispose of the seals. The brass discs, however, can be reused. Clean the water level indicator and the cover.

If necessary descale the level indicator glass.

- 17 -

Page 18: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

Remove the seals from the steam valve connection. In case of older models, unscrew the steam pipe.

Now unscrew the torx screw in the tray of the housing and remove the black bottom plate.

- 18 -

Page 19: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

Place the machine on its rear side and disconnect the pressostat connectors. (electrical pressure switch)

Remove the pressostat from the pressure tube.

- 19 -

Page 20: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

Now remove the connections from the safety thermostat and the heating connections.

Unscrew the 3 screws from the heating flange.

- 20 -

Page 21: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

The heating flange can now be taken out from the boiler.

On the picture it is clearly visible that the pressure tube has built up scaling and limestone! In case of the machine on the picture, the pressure switch

(pressostat) could no longer work reliably and the machine has not reliably switched off anymore.

Now remove the seal from the heating flange.

- 21 -

Page 22: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

Dispose of the seal and descale the heating and pressure tube.

View inside the boiler which is to be descaled after having been removed from the boiler base plate.

- 22 -

Page 23: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

Remove the protective conductor connection (earthing) from the boiler nut.Models with a boiler nut of plastic do not have this connection at this part.

Now the most difficult part of the job comes up. You have to remove the boiler from the boiler base plate. We use a special tool for this task. What you can use is a big pipe wrench or an oil filter wrench which can be put around the

boiler. Note! Do not grip the boiler itself with the pipe wrench!!!

- 23 -

Page 24: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

- 24 -

Page 25: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

- 25 -

Page 26: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

If the two parts are separated, remove the boiler base seals and throw them away. Note! Do not lubricate or grease them when mounting them again!!!!

Now remove the steam valve body. For this purpose, we use the spark plug wrench (16mm) with a ratchet and 2 extension bars.

- 26 -

Page 27: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

Hold the valve body with your hand and unscrew the nut in the boiler. “This is, of course, also possible the other way round.”

Descale the brass nut and disc of the valve body (inside the boiler).

- 27 -

Page 28: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

We offer all seals required for this in 2 sealing kits:

Complete sealing kit, including all components: Item number: ED-LPKIT

Content:2 lip seals for the piston with approx. 44mm diameter, 1 filter holder seal for the brew group with approx. 50mm diameter 1 filter holder seal for the brew group with approx. 60mm diameter, 1 O-ring for the piston sleeve (new models)1 silicone seal for the drawbar, 1 perforated disc for the drawbar, 1 retainer ring for the drawbar 1 O-ring for the group flange, 2 O-rings for the steam lance, 1 seal for the steam tap shaft 1 connector including seals for the auto-capuccinatore, 2 silicone seals for the water level indicator 2 brass discs for the water level indicator, 1 water level indicator (glass), 1 seal for the boiler lock, 1 O-ring for the heating flange, 1 seal for the boiler base (on top), 1 seal for the boiler base (at the bottom), 1 safety valve spring plug, 2 hinge pins, 4 retainer rings for the hinge pins, 1 tube of silicone grease (6g)

Only seals:

Item number: EDDLPEP0145Content:2 lip seals for the piston with approx. 44mm diameter 1186467, 1 filter holder seals for the brew group with approx. 50mm diameter 1186465 (upon request also for the large brew group with 58mm diameter 3186013) 1 silicone seal for the drawbar 1186470, 1 O-ring for the group flange 1186475, 2 O-rings for the steam lance 0600, 1 seal for the steam tap shaft 1186474, 2 silicone seals for the glass tube 1186469 1 seal for the boiler lock 1186480, 1 tube of silicone grease (6g)

These seals are required for the machine shown in these instructions.

After having dismantled everything, now all components are thoroughly descaled and cleaned. To clean the brew group it is recommendable using a

coffee oil solvent, for descaling use dissoluted citric acid or tartaric acid. In our workshop we use amidosulfonic acid.

Now start with the reassembly.

- 28 -

Page 29: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

First screw the valve body onto the boiler. In the inside first put the brass disc and then screw on the nut. Important! Do not forget the brass disc as it serves

as a seal in the machine. Please do not use a Teflon or paper seal!

Now place the seal onto the boiler thread. (boiler base seal on top)

We supply and use seals made of Klingersil C4400.The old graphite seals become hard and brittle too quickly.

Attention! Do not grease the two seals under no circumstances!!!

- 29 -

Page 30: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

Place the boiler onto the boiler base.

Mount the seal at the bottom. (boiler base seal at the bottom)

- 30 -

Page 31: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

Then tightly screw on the boiler onto the boiler base using the boiler nut. When doing so, the boiler must be aligned straight towards the front side.

Now place the O-ring into the heating flange! In the demonstrated case it is the old heating flange of brass. We also supply

the seal made of Klingersil for this purpose. In case of the new heating flanges of stainless steel this seal is replaced by an O-ring.

The old heating flange of brass is no longer supplied by la Pavoni, however, it can be replaced by the new heating flange of stainless steel without any problem. In this case, all you need is the new O-ring sealing and 3 new

(shorter) screws, which can be supplied as well.

If the seal is inserted, just reinsert the heating in the boiler and tightly screw it in.

We recommend replacing the old overtemperature protection at once by the new 127 degree safety thermostat.

This allows you to switch on again the new safety thermostat using the red button if an overtemperature occurs.

The old overtemperature protection in comparison is defective after having been triggered and must be replaced in this case.

Note! Do not bridge neither the overtemperature protection nor the safety thermostat!

- 31 -

Page 32: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

Reconnect all previously disconnected cables.

As shown on the picture, we have replaced the old overtemperature protection by the new 127 degree safety thermostat.

Now reassemble the steam valve spindle. The new spindle seal (tap seal) is located inbetween the two pressure discs of brass!

- 32 -

Page 33: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

Grease the spindle and screw in the valve body.

Tighten the pressing nut.

- 33 -

Page 34: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

Insert the silicone seal in the holder of the water level indicator at the bottom. (grease)

The pressing disc

- 34 -

Page 35: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

Screw on the screw connection.

Reassemble the upper holder of the water level indicator in the same order. Now insert the water level indicator from top to bottom.

- 35 -

Page 36: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

Align the water level indicator and tighten the screw connections.

Insert the Teflon sealing ring in the upper holder of the water level indicator (on top) and screw it on with the locking nut.

- 36 -

Page 37: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

Reassemble the safety valve (we have replaced the steel ball by the new silicone pushrod).

- 37 -

Page 38: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

Screw it onto the boiler connection.

Please, always counterlock using an open-end wrench!

- 38 -

Page 39: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

Now pull the lip seals onto the piston.

Upper sealing ring = lip facing upwards

Lower sealing ring = lip facing downwards

The sealing rings must be properly placed in the notch.

- 39 -

Page 40: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

Grease the fit for the piston rod seal.

Grease the wall of the brew group.

- 40 -

Page 41: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

Insert the piston rod seal (silicone lip seal). The lip must face towards the brew group.

Insert the perforated disc.

Page 42: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

- 41 -Insert the circlip.

Grease the piston and seals.

Page 43: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

- 42 -

Insert the piston and rod into the brew group as shown on the picture.

When inserting the piston, slightly press on the upper sealing ring using a flat screwdriver.

- 43 -

Page 44: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

Insert the sieve.

Insert the filter holder seal (on the picture it is a ST gasket for the 50mm brew group).

Do not grease when inserting!!!

Page 45: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

- 44 -We recommend pressing in the seal while the sieve is not yet inserted!

Now screw on the adjusting nut of the piston rod. Use a screwdriver as spacing element (as shown on the picture).

- 45 -

Page 46: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

Counterlock with the cap nut.

- 46 -

Page 47: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

Now screw in the riser tube. Attention!Tighten it, but not too tight!

“Tight is followed by broken!!!”

Insert the group flange seal (O-ring) in the notch.

- 47 -

Page 48: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

Align the brew group to the boiler and screw it on.

- 48 -

Page 49: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

Grease the elongated hole and the guide pulley.

- 49 -

Page 50: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

Mount the lever bar, insert the hinge pins, and secure with the circlips.

Note! The front hole of the lever bar MUST be positioned downwards. (see picture)

- 50 -

Page 51: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

Remove the old sealing ring from the boiler lock and replace it by a new one.

- 51 -

Page 52: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

Fill water into the boiler.

Up to the boiler joint! Do not overfill, otherwise there is not enough space for the steam bubble.

- 52 -

Page 53: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

Screw on the boiler lock. (We use a lock with pressure gauge to monitor the boiler pressure in this case). Switch on the machine.

Pull over the two steam valve seals and place them into the notches.

- 53 -

Page 54: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

The machine heats up and the pressostat switches off at constantly 1.1 bar.

Is everything leak-proof? PERFECT!

Pull the lever, ……water on!

- 54 -

Page 55: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

Steam test

Now unscrew the „normal“ boiler lock.

- 55 -

Page 56: Replacement Sealings Hand Lever Models Pavoni

Finally screw on/plug on the cap of the water level indicator, clean the machine from the grease of your „sticky fingers“, and the machine is ready for the next espresso shot!

As the Europiccola model has never been delivered with a pressure gauge, we therefore offer a special set.

The set consists of one pressure gauge adapter with thread size M11,one pressure gauge, and one Teflon gasket.

Just remove the locking screw at the upper holder of the water level indicator, screw on the pressure gauge adapter with the new Teflon gasket, screw in the pressure gauge, and adjust both such that they face frontwards. This allows

you to look up the pressure directly from the pressure gauge.
