However, the earliest versions that these files can have been created in are:ScanTools version 2.5b (running under MS-DOS)ScanTools version 1.2 (running under Microsoft Windows)ScanTools II software uses a different format for the application and profile files, and you mustdecide whether or not to save them in the newer ScanTools II format. Once saved in the newerScanTools II format, the applications and profiles cannot be used in any previous version ofScanTools software. The data file format is not and cannot be changed when migratingapplications.Earlier versions of ScanTools software, for MS-DOS and Windows, can be installed and run onthe same personal computer as ScanTools II software.Changes from ScanTools Software (DOS) to ScanTools II SoftwareGeneral (DOS)1.Operating system and hardware requirements (including modem) have beenupdated.See System Requirements in User Guide and Online help.2.Applications created in ScanTools (DOS) versions 2.5b or greater can be migrated toScanTools II.3.Applications and profiles opened and used in ScanTools II are still stored in their oldformat, as long as they were not saved in ScanTools II.Applications and profilesmust be saved in ScanTools II to be considered upgraded to ScanTools II.ScanTools II Release Notes 202 744 025 44.Applications and profiles saved in ScanTools II cannot be used in ScanToolssoftware for DOS.5.Any currently defined Default Settings of migrated applications are ignored andnot migrated; they are re-initialized to the standard application module defaultsettings.You must re-define application defaults after you migrate them.6.The data file format is not and cannot be changed when migrating applications.7.Long file names are supported (up to 24 characters).8.ScanTools II does not support tape transfer.Any transfer of data to the tape unit(Cipher or StorageTek) must be done through the tape unit utilities and not withScanTools II. Refer to the tape transfer manuals for information on how to transferdata. Alternative method of transfer of data is through file networking.9.The Graphics Display options for the OpScan 21 and 10 scanners are no longersupported.10. Multiple applications can be installed at one time.11. When creating an Application diskette, multiple applications may be copied ontoone diskette.In addition, selected Edit, Score and Conversion Profiles for eachapplication may be copied along with the application file.12. Online and context-sensitive help are now supported.13. Options menu allows user to toggle between Short and Long menus.14. Support of three different paths: Application path, Profile path, and Data path.15. Context file replaces Command line.16. OCR is no longer supported.17. Built-in sheet image utility for scanner diagnostic use.Application Development (DOS)1.Record format and grid creation using the same screen.2.Add field attribute to the record formats to print the contents of the field on the formwhen the form is scanned.3.Allow multiple display fields to be specified for a document.4.Grids can be linked from the front side of the form to the back side of the form.5.Maximum number of Translate tables and/or Literal strings increased to 8192 perapplication.6.Automatic start of the OMR tool when no tool is selected.7.OCR is no longer supported.8.Pages within a booklet can be selected.9.When viewing the application, the application settings displayed are the application-stored default settings.ScanTools II Release Notes 202 744 025 510.
