Dear Franken Hall Council:
According to research performed by the American Cancer Society, cancer is the second most common cause of death in
America, just after heart disease. Cancer will claim the lives of almost 600,000 people in 2014 alone, but thanks to
continuous cancer research, the number of survivors has grown exponentially in the past decade. Relay for Life is part of
that continuous research, providing funding and constant support. We would love for you and your residents to be part
of helping us find a cure for cancer and supporting those in the community who are
faced with the trials and difficult times that cancer brings.
For almost 30 years, Relay for Life has worked closely with the American Cancer Society
to help combat cancer and fund research. With the help of volunteers like you, weve
raised over $5 billion which has helped expand the lives of millions of cancer patients and
has helped develop advanced and innovative techniques in cancer care. We are extremely
indebted to all of those volunteers and the time theyve spent to help fight Americas
number two cause of death. Your support isinvaluable.
We would love to see Franken Hall involved in our fundraising and volunteering efforts.
Relay for Life can be a great way to foster community among your residents, while at the same time supporting a worthy
cause. Several of your residents may also have experienced cancer first hand, whether through a family member, a close
friend, or even themselves. Relay for Life would be a wonderful way for you to honor and support those of whom cancer
has had a great effect.
The Nodaway County Relay for Life event will be held on September 11, 2014at Beal Park in Maryville. The event
lasts 12 hours, from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am, and will include fun, festivities, and food. Our teams traditionally consist of 12-
15 people, but there are no restrictions on the amount of people who may join your team. Your team leader will be
responsible for creating a walking schedule so no team member will have to walk for the entire 12 hours. We do
encourage each team to have at least one member walking at all times, though.
The entry fee for Relay for Life is an affordable $15 per person, including a team t-shirt.
There are many options available to help pay for the entry costs, including fundraising
and sponsorships. Many businesses in the Nodaway County area would be more than
willing to sponsor a team for tax and philanthropic purposes. If youd like to forgo
sponsorship, there are dozens of ways to fundraise, including going door to door, hosting
a bake sale, or holding a silent auction. For other fundraising ideas and tips and to sign
your team up, please visit our website at www.relayforlife.com.

We can beat cancer, but your help is very important. Your involvement in Relay for Life is helpful on two fronts: your
monetary contribution will help us continue to fight cancer and you will be showing support for all those around you who
have been victims of this terrible disease. Relay for Life is a way to give back to your community and even the world.
With your help, we can stop cancer in its tracks through innovation and research. We look forward to hearing from you
and we are excited to have you join us in our continued fight against cancer. Remember, there is hope. Please visit our
website at www.relayforlife.comfor further information about Relay for Life, the American Cancer Society, our efforts
to help eliminate cancer for good, and to sign your team up. Be sure to sign up by March 15to reserve your place! Thank
you.
Sincerely yours,
Jared S. Ritenour
