Op die oggend van 19 Februarie omstreeks

08:00 is die Toyota Tazz waarin die

onderwysers gereis het, getref deur ‘n Ford

King Cab.

Die ongeluk het plaasgevind by die Alra

Park kruising op die Balfour pad. Na

bewering het die Ford agter die Tazz gery

op die Balfour/Alra Park pad. Volgens die

bestuurder van die Ford het die bestuurder

van die Tazz geen aanduiding gegee dat hy

gaan afdraai in Zambezi laan nie. Voor die

Noue ontkomingbestuurder kon besef dat die Tazz stilstaan

het hy die agterkant van die voertuig

getref. Die Ford bestuurder het geskok

gestaan en toekyk hoe die Nooddienste

een van die beseerdes uit die wrak van die

Tazz bevry. Hy het sy kommer uit gespreek

oor die beseerdes en het die voorval

beskryf as ‘n ongeluk.

Volgens Nooddienste is beseerdes op die

toneel gestabiliseer.

Twee van die insittendes is na die N17 in

Springs gehaas met die moontlikheid dat

een ‘n rugbesering opgedoen het tydens

die voorval. Die derde insittende is na die

plaaslike kliniek geneem vir observasie.

I have often said that there are many“jobs” in the secular world that I seemore as a calling than a “job”.One of these professions is that of ateacher. Many people think that a ministerworks only on a Sunday and so too manypeople think that a teacher has a cosy halfday job with no stress. Again comparingbeing a minister to a teacher I must agreethat just like in the normal secular workplace some people do work harder thanothers but let me say that a dedicated hardworking, conscientious teacher is a lot ofhard work.Our church believes that tithing (givingyour 10th) is a Biblical practice and in thesame way we as a church tithe into thecommunity each month. Part of ourJanuary tithe was used to purchasestationary for children whose parents arestruggling and we took a boot full ofbooks, paper, pens etc to the NewHeidelberg Secondary School in Bergsig(this is the “temporary” name of theschool).What we found was amazing. The premiseswere neat and we were welcomed with abig smile (they did not know what we hadin the boot of the car). But then my eyecaught the long grass just past theclassrooms and I wondered what thereason was for the long grass. Afterchatting to the acting head of the schoolMr Steven Nel I realized that we all had alesson to learn from the way this schoolwas being run.For whatever reason the promisedGovernment funds had not yet arrived atthe school (I promised not to say more)and yet I saw many dedicated hard workingstaff members on sight. After investigatingI found that the cleaning staff hadvolunteered and at that time were not beingpaid a salary. There were no phonesavailable (not sure when Telkom is goingto install the lines) and I noticed that MrNel was using his own phone (at his owncost for now). The dedication and passionseen by the staff from Mr Nel all the waydown to the grounds staff was amazing. Iimmediately thought of this work being acalling and not just a job. No matter whatthe present conditions that the schoolfound itself in the staff were prepared to

“give their all” to making a success of theschool. (Please note – I am not sayingother staff from other schools are notdoing their best – I am using this schoolas an example of dedication to theirprofession).In a meeting with Mr Nel I asked somequestions and received some answers. Iasked about the long grass and Mr Nel toldme that they did not have funds to paysomeone to cut the grass and the singlesmall lawnmower at their disposal couldnot do the job. I wonder if there are anycompanies in Heidelberg who could givea helping hand to cut the grass.My next observation was the lack of trees.I would like to challenge the communityand specif ically churches to purchasesome trees and bring them to the schoolon Saturday the 15th March at 15h00. Bringsome folk along who can help plant thetrees and let us as a community make adifference to the lives of the childrenattending this school. Mr Nel has assuredme that they will have the holes dug forthe trees.My last observation was that there was alack of dustbins and Mr Nel has asked ifthe community can help with someindustrial dust bins (or even just some 44gal drums).The New Heidelberg Secondary School istrying their best and I believe we as acommunity can get together and help themreach their dream for the children.Thank you to ALL the teachers and staffof ALL our schools in Heidelberg for thehard work. Your “job” is truly a calling andNOT just a job.

Tax payers will be digging deeper in their

pockets this year to pay for the salaries

of councillors and the mayor’s salary.

An additional R5 874 071 must be met to

cover the increase in Ekurhuleni Metro

councillors’ salaries for the 2013/14

financial year.

This is an estimated increase of 5 percent,

effective from March and to be backdated

to July, last year, for all councillors in the

metro.

The annual salaries of the 174 part time

councillors, 15 Section 79 committee

Digging deeperchairmen, 10 members of the Mayoral

Committee, the Speaker of council and the

mayor stands at R97 285 812.

The annual total remuneration package for

the mayor will increase from R1 068 153

to R1 121 561 and the Speaker of council

from R854 523 to R897 249.

In addition, the executive mayor and the

Speaker will also receive cell phone

allowances of R41 820 per annum, the rest

of the councillors receive R20 868. All will

receive a total of R5 600 in mobile data

cards per annum.

The salaries of councillors are determined

by the full council, by resolution of a

supporting vote of the majority of the

members of council, in consultation with

the MEC responsible for local government.

If you are a resident of Ekurhuleni in need of an ambulance,

you will be responded to within 15 minutes of making your

call.

This can be attributed to the doubling of the average number of

emergency response vehicles on call 24 hours a day, seven days

a week, from 30 to 65 since August last year. 12 More ambulances

will be added to the City of Ekurhuleni’s Disaster and Emergency

Management Services fleet and a new disaster bus.

The City has also appointed 176 new fire fighter/emergency care

practitioners who were officially dispatched to their posts by

Executive Mayor Cllr Mondli Gungubele.

An announcement will be made that the City will soon be opening

the Zonkizizwe and Comercia (Tembisa) Fire Stations which will

be staffed with 56 emergency care practitioners each, from the

new appointees. Capacity will be boosted at the Palm Ridge,

Wadeville, Tsakane, Bedfordview and Nigel Fire Stations which

will also be allocated some of the new recruits.

According to the Executive Mayor, the number of emergency

calls responded to within f ive minutes of dispatching an

ambulance increased from 0% to 9.43% in the last six months.

Calls responded to within 15 minutes increased from 78% to 80%

while the remainder of all calls are attended to within less than

an hour. The number of ambulances on the road 24/7 will now be

increased to an average of 74.

A total of 170 of the new permanent staff members were

appointed from the City’s 400-strong Fire Brigade Reserve Force,

an entry into the field of emergency care for unemployed Fire

Fighter 2 or Basic Ambulance course graduates.

Geloof dra haar deur elke dag en gee haar die moed

om die beste van elke situasie te maak.

Dit is die woorde van Mariaan Kinnear (32) ten tye

‘n besoek aan haar op 20 Februarie. Sy is nie

onbekend aan ons Rekord lesers nie. Mariaan is op

die vroeë ouderdom van 14 jaar gediagnoseer met

Diabetes Mellitus.

Vanaf die jaar 2008 het Mariaan eers sig in haar een

oog verloor weens komplikasies, veroorsaak deur

diabetes mellitus en arteriële hipertensie (hoë

bloeddruk). In 2009 was sy totaal en al blind, is

gediagnoseer met nierversaking en kon nie meer

loop. Gedurende die tydstip het sy gewag op ‘n

nieroorplanting en moes elke 2de dag na Johannes-

burg reis vir dialise. Mariaan se moeder Charmaine

het hierdie taak op haar skouers geneem. Charmaine

is egter in 2012 oorlede na ‘n beroerte.

Mariaan is vandag afhanklik van haar vader Jeff

Kinnear. Dit is hy wat haar daagliks moed in praat en

aangemeld by Charlotte Maxeke Johan-

nesburg Hospitaal vir Mariaan se dialise.

Gedurende Augustus 2013 het sy ‘n

beroerte gehad en was 3 dae in ‘n koma.

By die hospitaal is sy ingelig dat sy elke

2de dag vir behandeling moet kom en dat

haar gesondheids toestand nie geskik is vir

‘n nieroorplanting nie.

Die behandeling dreineer al die gifstowwe

uit Mariaan se liggaam en keer dat dit nie

haar brein affekteer nie. Dit kan

noodlottige gevolge inhou wat kan lei tot

haar dood.

Die medici het haar dialise behandeling

intussen verander na fistula dialise. Die

dreinering van vloeistof vind nou plaas

vanaf haar regter arm en nie meer haar

borskas. Mariaan vertel moedig dat dit

nogal pynlik en ongemaklik is.

Mariaan is lief daarvoor om voor die radio

te sit en musiek te luister in haar vrye tyd.

Ray Dylan en Gerhard Steyn is haar

gunsteling sangers.

Jeff en Mariaan besit nie ‘n mediese fonds

nie en Jeff is ‘n pensioenaris. Om sy

inkomste aan te vul doen hy graag enige

nutswerk. Jeff en Mariaan wil ook die

gemeenskap bedank vir hul ondersteuning

deur die jare, veral aan YLWIC Enginee-

ring.

Hierdie familie het ‘n groot behoefte aan

skenkings en donasies uit die gemeen-

skap.

Mariaan kort onder andere nuwe klere,

bloeddruk- en glukose meter.

verband saam met die SAPS en Metro

Polisie om verdagte aktiwiteite aan te meld

en te rapporteer wat gewaar word geduren-

de hul patrollies. Die CPF Patrolleerders

waarin hy ry. Geen gekruide taal, seksis-

tiese aanmerkings of rassisme is toelaat-

baar nie. Patrolleerders mag nie onder die

invloed van drank of dwelms wees nie.

Toelaatbaar:

Patrolleerders mag ‘n vuurwapen in hul

besit hê indien hy/sy ‘n lisensie daarvoor

het. Mag op die uitkyk wees vir verdagte

voertuie, persone wat op sypaadjies staan

of rond beweeg. Indien ‘n Patrolleerder ‘n

reservis/polisie- of korrektiewe beampte

is, mag hy/sy voertuie en persone deur-

soek. Indien dit ‘n persoon van die

teenoorgestelde geslag is, mag hy/sy ‘n

persoon uit die publiek vra om dit namens

hom/haar uit te voer. Indien so persoon

weier, mag hulle aangekla word vir

dwarsboming van die gereg. Slegs Metro

Polisie het die mag om voertuie van die

pad af te trek.

Daar is besluit om ‘n dissiplinêre komitee

te stig. Die doel van die komitee is om

klagtes te ondersoek, probleme op te los

en as arbiter op te tree tussen partye.

Patrolleerders wat nie volgens hul handves

op tree nie sal voor hierdie komitee

verskyn en hul sal gedissiplineer word.

Die CPF Komitee wil die publiek net bewus

maak dat indien ‘n lid van die publiek

betrokke wil raak by die CPF Patrolleer-

ders hy deur ‘n keurings proses moet gaan.

Lede van die CPF Patrolleerders kan

uitgeken word deur die CPF embleem wat

aan voertuie se deure voorkom. Meeste

van die voertuie het wit ligte wat bo op

die dak skyn en elke lid moet toegerus

wees met sy eie unieke CPF identifise-

rings kaart. Op die kaart sal die besonder-

hede van die betrokke persoon voorkom,

selfoon nommer en ‘n unieke “barcode”

regs onder aan die kaart. Voorbeeld volg.

Regrettably the budget on maintenance of

grounds in the region is depleted and

therefore this project can only receive

attention during the 2014/15 f inancial

On the issue of the exorbitant fees at Jim

Fouche and John Vorster Stadiums, those

Feedbackare promulgated tariffs which are

applicable to those stadiums.

EMM are currently reviewing these tariffs

to accommodate community clubs and

these changes will come into effect only

in July 2014.

Due to the state of the Alra Park and the

Mackenzieville Stadiums, the Metro’s

Sport and Recreation Department had a

meeting with the Ward Councillor and

representatives from the Sport Clubs in the

area.

They made the following commitment: the

use of the two stadiums will be for free until

such time that they are upgraded to a better

standard.

The usage will however be coordinated. A

date to finalise this arrangement by the

Ward Councillor and the team represen-

tatives is still awaited.

Whilst Nigel has seen good work by thelocal authority in maintaining roads andimproving the pedestrian pavements,other items of SAFETY and maintenanceare being neglected.Pictures of the recently widened pavementin Somerset St. on approach to NigelPrimary School is disgusting.It is so overgrown and littered with rubbishthat pedestrian are having to walk on thestreet.Litter is accumulating in the overgrownareas and in the weeds encroaching ontothe road.Some of the fixed metal dustbins that wereerected along the pavements have longsince been destroyed and removed.The Pedestrian safety warning sign on thepavement approaching the primary schoolfrom town side is obscured by overhangingtrees.The Beverly St. section of the road alongthe primary school entrance is used byracing/reckless drivers endangering thelives of the primary school children. Manyof whom come from rural areas where theyare not accustomed to speeding vehicles.The pedestrian crossing and parking areashave recently been repainted and are welldemarcated but serious attention need tobe given to strategically placed “speedhumps” in an attempt to further insure thesafety of the young primary schoolchildren.

Local 4x4 club to develop a 4x4 track right in our midst for

all experienced and novice drivers.

Nigel 4x4 club was established in 1996 and was founded by local

business men of Nigel, Neels Ras, Rhyno and Alwyn van den

Heever. Other founders where Nic Goosen, Piet Botha, Attie van

Vuuren, Hans Mc Chalaghan and Binkie Jabloufsky. Today only

3 dedicated members and families are still active. The aim of the

4x4 club is so that all enthusiasts can participate in fun and scenic

routes in and around Nigel. Some of these exhibitions took them

into the Mozambique and Lesotho mountains.

Monthly meetings are held every second Tuesday of the month

to discuss business and social events. One of the events discussed

for the month of March will be at the Rust de Winter. This consists

of a scenic route through the mountains near Pretoria and

Jambouree.

Mostly experienced drivers do extreme 4x4 routes but there is

plenty of tracks and routes set out for novice drivers.

The 4x4 club is a fun sport that can include the whole family. At

the moment a 4x4 track is being laid out right in our midst, the

property behind the John Vorster sports fields belonging to Tini

Vorster School. A portion of this field has been allocated to

develop a 4x4 track for all enthusiasts (licensed vehicles only).

During a course you don’t only get to know your vehicle’s

driving capabilities but also your ingenious driving skills and

you get to improve it. The track basically caters for all sizes,

makes and models. A 4x4 day will be held during Laerskool Tini

Vorster’s Boere Carnival on Saturday, March 15. For more details
