The Cisco Networking adult program curriculum provides a comprehensive over-view of networking from fundamentals to advanced applications and services. The program prepares students for IT professional careers and also for the Cisco Certified Entry-Level Technician (CCENT) and Cisco Certified Network Associate Route Switch (CCNA) certification exams. The academy's four sessions emphasize theoretical concepts and practical applications while providing hands-on labs that are needed to design, install, operate, and maintain networks in small to medium businesses, as well as enterprise and service provider environments. The course is based on the new Cisco Certification standards. Labs include state of the art products (routers, switch-es, wireless), software and computers as well as use of the Packet Tracer. Instruction is conducted by a Sarasota County School District Network Engineer, experienced in current networking challenges and solutions. A discount on the CCNA exam is avail-able to students who complete all four classes and achieve a score of at least 75% on each semesters final exam.

EARlY CHIlDHOOD EDUCATION The Early Childhood Education program prepares students to under-stand the ages and stages of child development and to plan meaningful learning experiences for young children from birth through 8 years of age. Students will learn competencies concerning the care of young children in the Early Childhood Industry. Students model best practice teaching techniques with the children at Suncoast Technical College in our

Tech Tots Laboratory Preschool or in other approved community child care centers. Observation and supervision of work experience with young children in a school or community laboratory setting are an integral part of this program. To achieve Early Child-hood Professional Certificate status, a student must successfully complete 480 hours of direct work with children aged five years or younger. In addition, they will spend 120 hours completing classroom coursework. Students completing this program are eligible for a higher wage and/or supervisory positions in the child care field. Suncoast recommends that students obtain certification in infant/child CPR and first aid for initial employment.

All Florida Emergency Technicians (EMT) and Paramedic certificates are due to expire on December 1, 2018. This 40-hour course is based on the U.S. DOT Nation Standard Curriculum for EMT’s and follows their guidelines for an EMT basic refresher. This course will also include a BLS recertification, optional ACLS for paramedics and 2 hours on pediatric emergencies. Paramedics will also need an ACLS course to recertify. This is a combined on-line and skills demonstration course with a mandatory orientation. Class size is limited to 30 students.

This class meets the FL Board of Nursing requirement: The new 2 CE requirement for the Recognizing Im-pairment in the Workplace course became effective August 1, 2017, then every other biennium thereafter. The purpose of this course is to help nurses in the state of Florida identify and support coworkers who may be afflicted with workplace impairment. At the end of the course, the individual will be able to identify signs and symptoms of the impaired employee, be able to discuss some of the steps employers have implemented to pro-mote patient and public safety and provide assistance

to the employee, be able to identify and discuss steps to file a report of an impaired nurse, discuss mandatory reporting laws, and be able to identify and discuss treat-ment options and programs for impaired practitioners. (2 CEU)

Synthetic illicit drugs are dangerous and potent. Extremely toxic chemicals are added and the effects of these drugs can be deadly. K2 for example is a legal form of marijuana frequently abused, especially by young people. It is a com-bination of dried herbs sprayed with a substance similar to marijuana and marketed as incense. When combined with other drugs and sometimes alcohol, serious injury can occur. This class will educate healthcare providers on the use, signs, symptoms and care options of synthetic drug use including K2 and bath salts. (2 CEU)

The program builds knowledge in script writing, preproduction planning, scheduling, hiring a crew, camera work, lighting, audio recording, set design, studio production, field production and editing. The program is a planned sequence of courses with each knowledge base building on the previous course so students must enter at the beginning of the course year in the fall.

This program maintains approval from the Florida State Board of Nursing. Grad-uates are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN) given by the Florida State Board of Nursing. This is a national licensing exam with reciprocity in all states. This licensure provides the LPN with eli-gibility to articulate with the registered nurse (RN) transition programs at community colleges or in the university system. All teachers are registered nurses, licensed by the State of FL, and credentialed by the Board of Nursing.

Precision Machining & CNC Automation__________________________________________________________________________ Length: 11 Months Campus: Sarasota__________________________________________________________________________This program consists of specialized classroom instruction, along with projects and lab experiences that concern the machining of metals and plastics. Instruction also includes the use of precision measuring instruments. Classroom and practical experi-ences teach students: CNC programming, use of CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer-Aided Manufacturing) processes, and to set up and perform advanced level machining operations. Related trade math and blueprint reading are taught as a part of the program and are used extensively in laboratory activities. Nursing Assistant (lTC)__________________________________________________________________________ Length: 1 Month Campus: Sarasota & Alta vista__________________________________________________________________________This non-matriculated, state-approved program prepares students primarily for employ-ment as nursing assistants in nursing homes, although other employment options are available. Successful completion of this program prepares students to take the State of Florida Nursing Assistant Examination for certification in accordance with Chapter 82-163, Florida Statutes.

Paramedic__________________________________________________________________________ Length: 14 Months Campus: Sarasota__________________________________________________________________________This program prepares students to function as team leaders on advanced life support rescues. Students learn and practice procedures such as intravenous infusions, en-dotracheal intubation, defibrillation, and drug administration in addition to the basic techniques of resuscitation and stabilization. Students gain clinical experiences on Pediatric and Human Patient Simulators, in local emergency rooms, operating rooms, and on fire department rescue units. This Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (www.caahep.org) upon the recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP).

Plumbing__________________________________________________________________________ Length: 9 Months Campus: Sarasota__________________________________________________________________________Suncoast Technical College’s Plumbing Technology program provides students with the basics of installing and repairing plumbing systems–water pipes and drains– in residential and commercial buildings. Coursework includes sketching diagrams, interpreting blueprints, and practicing plumbing assembly. Students will learn about state codes and requirements and get an in-depth look at plumbing systems and their design and installation. Representatives from local plumbing companies and other industry experts will address students and offer opportunities for certification in various products available on the market today. Students will acquire skills in soldering, blueprint reading, codes, layout of systems, and assembly of all types of piping including cast iron, pipe sketching, and threading pipes. Students will also be introduced to water heaters, water pumps, water treatment, septic tanks, community water, fixtures, faucets, valves, and other appliances.

Power Equipment Technologies__________________________________________________________________________ Length: 9 Months Campus: Sarasota__________________________________________________________________________This short certificate program is designed to teach students to repair small gasoline engines. Students receive instruction in the principles of four-stroke cycle and two-stroke cycle engines. After completing this program, students will be able to diagnose small engine problems and make repairs to chain saws, lawnmowers, and other simi-lar equipment. Graduates of the Small Engine Repair program may become employed as a mechanic, service technician, small engine mechanic, outdoor power equipment service technician, golf cart mechanic, lawnmower repair mechanic, small engine technician, or small engine repair instructor.

Practical Nursing__________________________________________________________________________ Length: 1 year Campus: Sarasota & North Port__________________________________________________________________________This program prepares students to plan and administer nursing care to patients in hospitals, extended care facilities, physicians’ offices, healthcare agencies, and pri-vate homes. This care includes providing for the physical and emotional needs of the patient, administering medications, providing therapeutic treatments, and assisting with rehabilitation. Clinical experiences make up over 50 percent of the total program hours. Students must submit to drug testing prior to clinical placement. Students learn patient observation skills, treatments, and medications using the Skills Lab and Pediatric and Adult Human Patient Simulator. They have clinical assignments at three local hospitals, several nursing homes, community mental-health facilities, and other selected healthcare agencies.
