My place in question

My place in question is the bike shelter, located next to the smoking area in Esher College. The reason I took an interest to this area was the symmetrical composition of the frame. I also liked the interesting structure – its not a simple retactuaular bike rack like one would expect, it has an interesting and unusual Y shape structure, witch is repeated throughout the frame. The Bike shelter is made out of metal but its frame work is painted dark green, with a clear roofing over the top. Although the bike shelter is clearly man made, the earthy green makes it more subtle and fit into the green bushes and trees surrounding it. I have enjoyed studying my place in question as I can explore the bike shelter from many different angles.

What materials have I used to recreate my place in question?I have experimented with many different types of materials to create texture and give my images a sense of depth.

I have made a number of mixed media collages using materials and medias such as grass, cardboard, tissue paper, stickers, crayon, paint, watercolours, oil pastels, chalk pastels, tracing paper, fine liner, ink, Photoshop printouts, wax resist, google sketch up.

Using such a vast selection of materials has really helped me to understand and develop my knowledge of my place in question, and has helped me develop my skills of mixed media collage.

Test Piece

After studying cubist artist Ober-Weimar’s 1921 painting Lyonel Feininge, it has inspired me to create a mixed media cubist collage of my place in question. Here is a rough experimental test piece on my place in question.
