  • This section is an experiment to reduce biases people consciously or subconsciously may have towards Arabs
  • You are not obligated to finish this experiment, but it would be very appreciated if you do.

6. INJUSTICES TOWARDS ARABS

  • After analyzing the results from the first survey, I came up with a list of recurring trends that I noticed.
  • These trends are specific to Arab peoples only.
  • Please pay extra close attention to the next few slides. You do not have to memorize the trends, but you should be somewhat aware of them.

  • Arabs with DARK COMPLEXIONS tend to receive:
      • Lower ratings of trustworthiness
      • Higher ratings of aggressiveness
      • Lower ratings of likeability
  • Men with LONG BEARDS tend to receive:
    • Higher ratings of aggressiveness

  • YOUNGER MEN tend to receive:
      • Lower ratings of competence
      • Lower levels of trustworthiness
      • Higher levels of aggressiveness
  • OLDER MEN tend to receive:
      • Lower ratings of attractiveness

      • Lower ratings of competence
      • Lower ratings of trustworthiness
      • Higher ratings of aggressiveness
  • WOMEN wearing black head covering

14. SUMMARY

  • The previous slides should have made you notice general misconceptions and stereotypes about Arabs with certain facial features.
  • The next few slides try to reduce these biases through word and picture associations.
