BackgroundThe Durban Fresh ProduceMarket, situated at 81 FlowerRoad, Clairwood, is the fourthlargest fresh produce marketin the country. Currently 6market agents operate on themarket and are responsible forthe bulk sale of fresh produce.The annual turnover of themarket over the past 3 finan-cial years is as follows: 2008/09 R 806m 2007/08 R 731m2006/07 R 601m

A new traders’ hall has recent-ly been constructed at the mar-ket, with the intention of part-ly creating business opportuni-ties for potential traders cur-rently not located at the mar-ket. Two different tradingopportunities exist. Thedetails, and the process to befollowed in submitting anapplication for this space, arereflected below. Trading OpportunitiesWithin the traders’ hall, spaceis available for the purpose oftrading in fresh produce.Applications are invited fromindividuals interested inobtaining trading space at theTraders Hall at the DurbanFresh Produce Market.Preference will be given topreviously disadvantaged indi-viduals and those who haveexperience in the fresh pro-duce industry.
