(There are hundreds of adaptations of this fairy tale. I have chosen only those I

think can be interesting for the children and they probably know them.)

3. WHILE-READING ACTIVITIES (30 minutes)

a) Pupils read the story for themselves with help of dictionaries - because of some

unknown words. There is also one passage with gaps - pupils have to fill them

in according to the sense and rhyming (box with words next to the text)

(I would not pre-teach the vocabulary because it could destroy the moment of

surprise when reading the story.)

b) Reading the story together, checking the gap-filling and explaining some

confusing passages

4. POST-READING ACTIVITIES (45 minutes)

a) Comparing the version by Roald Dahl with the traditional fairy tale (focusing

on similarities and differences)

b) Pupils draw a comics based on Roald Dahl’s story (work in groups of 3-4)

c) Watch the online version of the fairy tale on YouTube.com (reading

accompanied by pictures)
