First United Methodist Church is a spiritually vibrant, multi-generational community devoted to transforming the world through Jesus Christ. We value building Christ-centered relationships, celebrating God’s goodness through different styles of worship, and deepening our connection to God through prayer, study, and service.

WORSHIPCONTEMPORARYThe contemporary services are on Saturday evenings at 5:30PM and Sunday mornings at 10:30AM in the Sanctuary. These provide a welcoming, laid back, come-as-you-are atmosphere. Our goal is to offer relevant, Biblically-based teachings, and our praise band provides sincere and heartfelt opportunities to worship Jesus Christ.

TRADITIONALOur traditional service is at 9:00AM on Sunday mornings in the Sanctuary. You will be inspired by classic hymns accompanied by pipe organ, as well as moving anthems offered by our New Life Choir. These musical elements are blended with relevant sermons, some media content, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

CHRIST. COMMUNITY. COFFEE. This contemporary, coffee-house worship experience is at 9:00AM on Sunday mornings in the Community Life Center. It’s a modern service that is community-focused, with a relatable message, coffee, music, and a relaxed atmosphere. Just come as you are!

“Teach me your way, Lord,

that I may rely on your faithfulness;

give me an undivided heart,

that I may fear your name.”

Psalm 86:11

MEMBERSHIPNEW MEMBERS CLASS Meet others who are new to the church family! This is a great opportunity to ask questions of the pastors and to understand the meaning of membership in this faith community. This is an informal class about the mission, vision, and core values of the Springfield First faith community. The New Members class is open to individuals who have completed the G6 class and want to pursue membership at Springfield First.Prerequisite: G6 Class (Please refer to Page 3 for more information.)When: Tuesday, February 16, at 6:30-8:00PM Where: Rooms 5/6Chantel Corrie, 793-9760 x126 or [email protected]

BAPTISMAre you ready to make a public announcement of your commitment to Christ? Or are you interested in having your infant baptized or dedicated? We would love to share that with you! Please contact us for more information or to schedule a baptism. Contact: Sharon Sweeney, 793-9760 x131 or [email protected]

GIVINGDemonstrate your devotion to God’s work by using one of the following methods to give:• Give as the offering plates are passed during weekly worship. To receive credit for cash donations, please fill out a pew envelope to enable our Financial Secretary to record your gift. You may also contact the church office to receive printed envelopes.• Enroll in automatic bank transfer. You may want to set up recurring weekly or monthly giving. The amount you choose is automatically withdrawn from your bank account on the date you request each month. Please contact the church office for a simple form to set it up. This is a great way to consistently support the mission of Jesus even when you happen to be away.• Use the Online Banking/Bill Payment service at your bank. You can send a one-time gift or set up a recurring gift on the schedule you prefer. When using this feature, your bank will mail a check to First United Methodist Church on your behalf. This method also enables your giving to be consistent when you have to be away.• Text Giving: Simply text “operating” (for normal offering) or “building” (for donations to the building fund), then a space, then $ amount you want to give to 1-855-906-5222 (Example: Operating $100). The first time, you will receive a reply with instructions to set up your account.• Give through our website (www.springfieldfirst.org). You may choose to give by eCheck or debit/credit card, or you can set up recurring payments with this easy-to-use tool.• Giving Kiosk: Each weekend, a kiosk is available in the Atrium areas in the North and South ends of the building where you can give by debit or credit card.

With each of these methods of giving, you will receive periodic statements throughout the year as well as a year-end tax statement. Thank you for your support of the mission and ministry of Jesus through First United Methodist Church. By your gifts, lives are changing here and around the world through Christ’s love.Contact: Pam Long, 793-9760 x235 or [email protected]

BOOK STUDYOur congregation will be reading Vanishing Grace, by Philip Yancey. In this book, Yancey invites us to take a deep look at why our faith matters and what could reignite its appeal to future generations. How can Christians offer grace and make a difference in a world that cries out in need? Yancey offers illuminating stories of how faith can be expressed in ways that disarm even the most cynical critics. Plan to read this book during Lent as our sermon series, classes, and small groups focus on this topic of grace.

CONFIRMATION To help students move forward on their journey of faith, we annually offer a 14-week Confirmation class to all students in 8th to 12th grade. This class introduces students to the history and doctrines of the Christian faith and explains what it means to be a part of the Body of Christ in the Methodist tradition and here at Springfield First!When: Coming in Fall of 2016

ONETHINGOne night each month, we put our faith into action through a night of relationship-building and serving our community in the name of Jesus. We call these nights “OneThing,” because we may not be able to do “everything,” but we can do “OneThing”! This is a fantastic way for students to put their hands to the work of the Gospel among their friends, family, and community.

At StudentLife, our mission is to help build students into disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. Through programming based on worship, discipleship, service, and outreach, we strive to help develop these students into young men and women of strong character and faith!

SUNDAY CLASSESEach week students and their parents/guardians wrestle with the truth of God’s word in classes designed for their specific stage of life. Our hope is that these classes spark conversations at home about faith, leading to experiences that empower families to follow Jesus together.
