Two dozen runners partici-
pated in the Carroll County
Triple Crown this year. Each
ran in the three 5Ks support-
ing the teams of the 3 south-
ern Carroll County high
schools, held throughout the
fall season. The scoring is
done in the cross-country
style, adding the place finish
number for each of the 3
races. The lower the score,
the better the finish place.
Congrats to all who ran and
especially to those led their
categories. Thanks again,
Robert, for keeping score after
each race.

3rd Annual Drumstick Duathlon and Sweet Potato 5K
Thanksgiving morning once
again provided a great venue at
Freedom Park for the 3rd
Drumstick Duathlon and
Sweet Potato 5K. Members,
friends and supporters gath-
ered to run or run and bike
just for the fun of it. Though
many members were running
in other races throughout the
area, dozens came to enjoy
this family event. Thanks Rob-
ert for heading it up and to all
those who helped make it hap-
pen!

man Maryland in Cambridge on Oct 7th. Congrats!
Hey, been wondering what’s with
the new erector set you’ve seen
at races these past few months?
Or noticed that the race award
results have been happening a bit
quicker after the race? No, it is
not a new runners performance-
enhancing device, it is a timers
performance-enhancing device.
We have been gaining experi-
ence with our new timing system!
Called Jaguar, it is a RFID-based
system. The bibs we now use
have a chip in them. The system
reads the chip multiple times as a
runner passes near and records
the time. It continuously com-
piles results as data is received.
After some early learning pains
while gaining experience, the tim-
ing team under Jamie’s tenacious
lead has had 100% reads over the
last few races. And been able to
quickly recover from the typical
anomalies that occur with timing
so that accurate results were
available soon after the race.
Though there were timing back-
ups used at the races, the team
did not have to resort to them.
See it next at the Shiver Shuffle!
