Battery status/charge status

Gently press the lever mechanism on the bottom of the device and remove the battery

compartmentcover.Then,withthepolaritymarkingsatthetopleftcorner,inserttheLithium-

ionbatteryintothebatterycompartment.Forthesakeofsafety,thepolarityisalsoprintedon

the battery compartment.

Plug the Power Adapter cable into the microscope power supply port. Then plug the other end

into an electrical power source. The battery requires approximately 3 hours to fully charge. During

charging,thebatterychargingindicatorlightluminatesred.Whenthebatteryindicatorlightturns

off,thebatteryisfullycharged.Afullchargeprovidesapproximately4hoursofoperation.

The battery charge status is shown at the bottom right of the display window. LED brightness

andimagequalityareadditionalindicatorsofthebatterycharge.Ifthebatterychargeisweak,

the illumination and the image quality will be reduced.

Inserting the micro SD card and SD card status display

Turn off the digital microscope. The micro SD card slot has a spring mechanism. When the SD card

isinsertedintotheslot,thecardlocksintoplace.

The SD card icon appears on the right side of the display window.

Beforecapturingimages,theSDcardmustbeformatted(seeFormating SD on page 14). To remove

the SD card, push on the SD card.

1.Turnonthedevice,asdescribedabove.

2. Place a specimen on the specimen platform.

3.Toinsertthespecimen,movethespecimenplatforminthe

downward direction with the control knob to the right.

Then move the specimen slide in the upward direction into

the vicinity of the microscope aperture.

4.Magnificationoccursintheimagefieldbyadjustingthe

magnificationsetting,utilisingtheknurledwheel(4)and

adjusting the specimen stage height with the right control

knob. When the specimen on the plattform is brought up

tothebottompartofthemicroscope,itispossibletoturn

the knurled wheel to the right (+) to adjust a second focus

formaximummagnification.

5.Fixthespecimenslideintopositionwiththeknobonthelefthandside(LOCK).

Tostartrecordingpresstheimagecapturebutton.Tostoprecording,presstheimagecapture

button again.

10.Tworesolutionsareavailableinvideomode:VGA(640x480pixels)andQVGA(320x

240pixels).Tochangetheresolution,pressthekeyandthenselectbetweenVGAandQVGA.

Exit the menu by pressing the key.

6. Set a suitable LED brightness.

7. Digitally magnify the view utilising the “Zoom” lever (see page 10).

8. Press the image capture button.

Forsubsequentmeasurementsonthecomputer,captureanimagewithamillimetrescaleusing

thesetmagnificationorwiththeenclosedmeasuringtable.Holdthedevicesteadywhilepressing

theimagecapturebutton,orriskthatthephotoisblurred.Readmoreaboutthisinthe„Timer“

section on page 12.

Thecontrolknobontheleft(LOCK-UNLOCK)setstheresistanceofthespecimenplatform

controlknobontheright(UP-DOWN).Astheknobistightened,theadjustmentofthe

specimen platform becomes increasingly stiff.

Navigation

You access the “Play back” menu by repeatedly pressing the key until the play back icon

appearsatthetopleft.Ifonlyvideosarestoredonthecard,theiconisdisplayed.Youcan

scroll between photos or videos with the keys.

•Startplaybackbypressingthekey.

•For“Pause”pressthekeyagain.

•Tofastforwardorrewindduringplayback,pressthekeys.

• Stopfastforwardorrewindwiththekey.

Zoom

Toadjustthedigitalzoom(1xto4x),findthezoomleverontheexteriorofthedisplayscreen.

The zoom factor is shown at the left of the display.

Inplaybackmode,athumbnailviewofimagescanbedisplayedbypressingthe

zoom lever in the “minus” direction (-).

Display (available in the photo function only)

Toswitchbetweencolourandgreyscale,pressthekey.Thechangeoverisinthe

followingsequence:colour,greyscaleasapositiveimageandgreyscaleasaninverseornegative

Time Lapse

Withthetimerfunction,afixednumberofimages(frames)canbe

captured automatically at preset intervals.

Frames

Set the number of images to be taken. In the example shown on the

left,32imagesarecaptured.

Interval

Set the time interval to determine when the images are to be

captured.Intheexampleshownontheleft,animageiscaptured

every 15 seconds.

Resolution

VGA,1.3,3.0,5.0,8.0and12megapixelsareavailableforselection.

Toaccessthemainmenu,pressthekey.Selectoneofthe

followingfunctions:Resolution,TimeLapse,Qualityor

Sharpness.Toreturntothepreviousmenu,pressthe

key.Toexitthemenu,pressthekey.

 

 

 

 

Topreventshakingthemicroscopewhilecapturingasingleimage,settheintervalto0:0:0

andexitthemenu.Nextpresstheimagecapturebutton.Aphotoistakenafteradelayof

1 second. Changing the digital zoom results in premature termination of the timer function.

Quality

Selectthesize/compressionrateoftheJPGfile.

Sharpness

Set the sharpness for angular objects in the image.

 

 

Language

Set desired menu language.

Power Save

Whenthe“PowerSave”energysavingmodeisON,theunit

automaticallyswitchesOFFafterthepresettime.Settingthis

mode extends the service life of the rechargeable battery. To

deactivatetheenergysavingmode,select“OFF”.

Date Stamp

Here choose the format of the date and time.

Format SD

Note:TheSDcardmustbeformattedbeforeuse.Duringthefor-

matting process all data is deleted. For this reason a warning mes-

sageisdisplayed.Youmustconfirmselectionwith„OK/Execute“.

Ifthismenuitemisselectedbymistake,choose„Cancel“.

TV Out

ThisdevicehasanAVoutputcapacity.ForEurope,settheTV

standardtoPAL.ConnecttheTVdevicetothemicroscope

usingthesuppliedAVcable.Themonitorsadaptautomatically.

Date/Time

First set the date format (e.g. DD/MM/YY). To access the format

setting,usethebutton.Thensetthedateandtime.

Sys. Reset

This function resets all settings in the menu to the original settings.

Version

Shows the current software version on the display.

pC software instaLLation

Connect the device to the computer

ConnecttheLCDDigitalMicroscopetoacomputerusingthesuppliedUSBcable.The

display window will automatically turn on and display a selection of functions.

•ToviewaliveimageinthePortableCapturesoftwareselect“Preview on Computer”.

• Toimportphoto(s)andvideo(s)fromtheSDcardintothedatabase,ortoimportthephoto

andvideodirectoryofthePortableCapturesoftware,select“Upload Images”.

•Thecomputerrequiresamomenttoinstallthesoftware.

• Startthesoftwarefromthedesktop.

Please set the brightness! An incorrect setting may cause a blank screen to be displayed.i

The following pages explain how to use the PC software.

•Theprograminterfaceismultilingual.Tochoosealanguage,selectOptions > Language > English.

•Thecapturedorimportedimageisdisplayedontherighthandsideasathumbnail.

•Whenthemouseisoverathumbnail,theimageappearsinthepreview window. When you click

therightmousebutton,asubmenuopens,whichdisplaysthefollowingoptions:

-Click“Open”toseeapreviewimage

- Click “Save” to save the image

- Click “Copy” to save the image to the clipboard for further processing

- Click “Delete” to delete the image

When“Save”isselected,adialogueboxopenswhichallowsyoutochoosethefilenameandfile

storage location.

•Tosave a single image,clickthephotocameraiconatthetopofthewindoworpresstheF11

key. Photos are stored in the “Photos” folder. The captured image is displayed on the right side of

the monitor as a thumbnail image.

• Videorecordingstartswhenthevideocameraiconatthetopofthewindowisclickedorby

activating “Capture > Video”.Recordingstopswhentheiconisclickedagain.Videosaresavedin

the“Videos”folder.

tiMer fUnCtionThe Timer icon is displayed in the toolbar. The Timer icon is used to capture images at preset

intervals.

• Select“Photo” or “Video”.

• Clickthearrowontherighttosetthedate. Click to determine the

hour,minuteandsecondsposition.Thenclicktherightmouse

button.Inthenextmenudisplay,adjustthetimewith“Step up”

and “Step down”.

• Interval (sec): Set the interval in seconds to preset the intervals

at which the images are to be captured.

• Video time (sec):In“Video”modethisisthelengthoftime

a video shall be recorded.

• Total Number: The number of images.

• Forlongertimeintervals,itisusefultoseehowmanyimages

have been taken. You can obtain this information under

“Captured number”.

•Tostartclick“Start”;tostopclick“Stop”.

FilePhotos directory: Directory where the images are stored.

Videosdirectory: Directorywherethevideosarestored.

Import: Import images from the SD card.

Exit: Exit the program. OptionsResolution: Underthismenuitemyoucansetthesizeofthepreviewimage.

Date / time: To display the date and time on the image.

Language: To set the menu language.

Fullscreen mode: To switch between normal and full screen display. To change to the normal display,double-clicktheimagedisplay.

Crossing: To display a crosshair. Capture Photo: Captures a single image.

Video: Startsavideorecording.Clickagaintostoprecording.

Image sizing

Asthemainprogramisinstalled,softwareisalsoinstalledthatallowsyoutoresizeimage(s).To

utilisethisfeature,double-clickonanimage in the gallery on the right hand side. At the bottom of

the window a slider is displayed which is used to enlarge or reduce the image size. Save or delete the

editedimage,and/orcopyittotheclipboard,etc.

An explanation of the individual icons is listed on page 19.

Calibration

The new calibration function allows accurate measurements to be made while capturing an image.

Adjusttheknurledwheel,onthemicroscope,placethemeasuring table (or optionally a millimetre

gauge) on the specimen platform. Then press the “Capture” button to capture an image. With this

imageyoucanmakemeasurementsonallphotosthatwerecapturedatthesamemagnification.

Although it is most accurate to include the measuring table with each specimen while capturing each

image.
