Hello to all CMA’ers and guests who read this newsletter. The National Run has come and gone and I was sorry to have missed it

– what a shame to miss riding to sunny Queensland. However I understand it was a great event and I look forward to catching up with those of you who attended, and share in your memories and perspectives of the weekend.

It seems a little while since I wheeled the ST out of the shed but the coming CMA committee meeting at Yea will change that, and it will be good to catch up and fellowship with all who can attend on the day.

The past weekend has been interesting for me with the first event being the inaugural “Harvest-fest” music weekend, organised in

Kyabram, by the local ministers fellowship. The musicians entertained the youth on Friday night, then moved into the street Saturday morning to delight the shoppers with their singing. On Saturday afternoon, there was a continuous singing and music afternoon at the Fauna Park – musicians including Steve Grace, Sky Pilot, Adrian Murley, and others combined to provide a wonderful day of hearing

praises sung, and spoken, to a large audience. On Sunday morning the groups attended various local churches, and then a final musical service was held at the local Plaza Theatre in the afternoon.

What impressed me, apart from the singing, was the freshness and enthusiasm of the musicians when they spoke to the various crowds of their obvious love for the Lord, and why they wanted to share with others, what Jesus had done in their lives. Then they encouraged others to take Jesus at His Word, and follow Him too. The message was simple, but expressed with great sincerity and passion. For me, there was a great encouragement to

stand up for God, wherever I might find myself, and .......”not be ashamed of the Gospel”...

The other matter of note was a visit to my old home town Cohuna, to share in the local Uniting Church service. It was a time of wonderful fellowship with many friends of my parents generation, as well as several of mine. Their congregation is only small but there is no doubting their sincerity and warm welcome to all who cross their paths. I see in the Cohuna community, they are a witness to the love of Jesus in their lives, and an encouragement to others to follow.

Are we doing what we can in our communities and fellowships? Are we sharing and encourag-ing each other, supporting each other, seeking to find ways to reach out to the rest of the hurting community? The need is great and “we” are called. God could clearly do it all Himself, but He extends to us the privilege to assist Him in this vital work of Kingdom building, wherever we are!

Bless you for the work you are doing, where you live.

Happy and safe riding – may God bless you.

Tuesday October 11th, bright and early. Peter and I ( Penny ) van Houts of Morwell, South Eastern Victoria, in steady rain, set off to meet John Krause at the Neerim Junction ( great name ), an hours ride away. True to good Gippsland tradition, the weather was sunshine and roses by the time we arrived at the little Neerim general store. We inspected each others gear and packing, comparing notes as you do, and finally set off on our Queensland adventure. Destination that night, Wagga Wagga. It was glorious riding through the Noojee and Powell Town forests on the generous sweepers and tight corners. Had to watch for loose gravel and some inconveniently placed potholes; aargh....a motor cyclist’s lot. Our first coffee stop was Healesville, and then one of the greatest rides that exists; The Black Spur. Doesn’t get much better than mid morning on a week day, virtually no traffic. Lunch at Mansfield, North East of Melbourne; then another amazing ride to Whitfield on our way to Milawa and the vineyard district. I personally rate this ride as one of the best there is and we have-n’t even left Victoria. Sadly it became much more straightforward as we progressed through Wodonga, Albury and finally on to Wagga Wagga, arriving at 6ish. After inspecting our designated camping spot a few times trying to decide how best to erect our camp, up it all went. How and where

to place “ the hutchey “ being the source of much passionate discussion! Finally dinner, and a 1 K walk from the park, and a very welcoming pub with a large deck area semi enclosed with large plastic blinds and gas radiators to keep an

incorrigible coldy like me snug. We shared our camping with Colin and Jacqui Berris and Colin Maxwell, C1 and C2 for those in the know. Wednesday; heavy dew, great sleep and beautiful weather. We breakfasted in Junee and followed the route to Cootamundra and Young, stopping for lunch at Cowra. Beautiful old historical towns west of the Blue Mountains. It must have seemed for the early explorers like paradise after finally conquering the big hills and the discovery of the large tracts of pastoral and agricul-tural land. No more confines of the coast and its limited land availability. Now pastoral pursuits could be seriously contemplated. It always amazes me that the Blue Mountains proved to be such an obstacle for so long. Our progress to Gilgandra, our destination that evening, took us through Canowinda, Molong, Wellington and Dubbo. Magnificent country, only enhanced by the incredible season we have had since the drought broke

Thursday, headed north. Our destination Warwick in Queensland. Breakfast in Coonabarabran, in the open, in the sunshine is a real treat for us southerners. Truly sumscious. Our bikes were going superbly. John’s Honda VFR, although loaded to the hilt, was still managing to perform wonderful acts of balance and performance. Peter’s Yamaha FJR was packed with great precision, panniers and top box and everything neat and tidy. Penny’s Triumph Thunderbird was a work of female art. Everything a girl needs including the pearls plus a swag. “The Bird” has a smaller fuel capacity to the Honda and Yammy and I was about to find out how much smaller it really was. I should have fueled up in Coonabarabran but foolish optimism and bravado led me to head for Narrabri where the boys were planning to fill up. Well the inevitable happened, 25 K’s out of Narrabri, somewhere in the Pilliga Forest she started coughing and wheezing and until a couple of K’s further down the road she coughed her last. I had underestimated the heavy toll on my fuel with the idling at the frequent road-works and all the road-train overtaking. Needless to say the fuel can John procured for my rescue was even more precariously stationed atop his already heavily leaning load and continued to travel the rest of the trip with us.

I think as a reminder! What do you think??

The weather deteriorated that afternoon and after a pleasant stop in Moree we headed on through Goondawindi and on to Warwick in pouring rain. Motels seriously beckon the weary rider in weather like that. Friday, after brunch in Beaudesert, we were headed out of town on our way to Surfers Para-dise when John noticed the proverbial “ funny noise “ syndrome. Yes, the chain had loosened and while the boys set about tightening it a weak link was discovered. A few hours later and with a new chain fitted at our makeshift roadside shop floor, we finally headed out of town. As wet as it had been the previous day it was now hot and humid. Phew!! Queensland weather. After heavy traffic, millions of lights all out of sequence and roadworks on every corner, a Surfers Paradise

cafe was a welcome retreat in the concrete jungle. After a lovely time with friends there we headed off to our destination, Mount Tambourine. What a ride there. Drop dead gorgeous. Unfortunately a heavy mist blocked much of the magnificent view. It was great to see so many familiar faces, all the bikes, the food and the setting were terrific.

Saturday and Sunday were spent fitting all we could into the spaces between feed-time. A very pleasurable problem. Mount Tambourine proved to be an excellent meeting place. One of my highlights was the awesome display of God’s creation Queensland style. We had a huge storm that swept through Mount Tambourine and the Gold Coast area on the Saturday afternoon. It was so dark that it was almost as night time. The rain was as sheets of water and the wind was blowing the clouds across the sky at lightning speed. What a spectacle!

We all enjoyed a memorable time of worship and challenge on the Sunday morning with Kerry from USA bringing a timely word on the power of our witness as ambassadors for Christ Monday was filled with the sound of bikes preparing to leave.Everyone seemed in good spirits with the building anticipation of the ride home and the sincerely good time had by all.

Thank you Queensland CMA for a memorable National Run 2011.

Our little party’s destination was Tamworth. We had added another rider, Neville on a Kawasaki Ninja. He was riding the newly purchased bike home to deliver it to a family member. What a tough gig! The weather was looking a little uncertain as we headed off the mountain, but by Beaudesert it was clear and fine. We rode down through the Lamington mountain range, and just before Rothdowney we turned left and headed down a little road, nominated as a great ride in the Australian Motorcyclist Atlas. It took us through 30 - 40 K’s of enchanted forest on a thin strip of bitumen in all states of repair, many little rickety bridges and fords, up hill and down dale with a few hairpins thrown in.

It was fantastic: a real little gem.

We emerged before Wiangeree and rode through Kyogle for breakfast and then on to Casino. Here we parted company. John and Neville took another scenic route down to Grafton and across to Armidale, Peter and I rode to Tenterfield, Glen Innes and somehow managed to meet up again in Armidale. John and Neville had had a fantastic ride on a road which until recently had still been largely unsealed and not recommended for bikers. Peter and I had thoroughly enjoyed the big sweepers as we rode through the rolling hills between Casino and Tenterfield. We arrived in Tamworth early evening just on dark, so it was a cabin for the night. It was our last night together. It was a good night of hilarity and fellowship and much discussion of our various adventures of the days ride. Tuesday, we parted company after breakfast in Tamworth. John and Neville headed for Bathurst, Peter and I to Lake Conjola near UllaDulla to stay with friends. Down through Scone, Musellbrook and from Singleton on to the famous Putty Road, which was 157 K’s of magic riding. Midweek is certainly the time to ride these roads, as there’s hardly any traffic hence minimal “ boys in blue “ activity. Sadly, Tom Tom’s have their limitations.

They don’t think ( process information ) as does the human mind. Penny was thinking Penrith, outskirts of Sydney, Picton, Bowral. Tom Tom was processing Hume Hwy or secondary route Paramatta, Campbelltown. Peter wasn’t listening to me and was-n’t paying close attention to Tom Tom’s preferred route. Alas, the traffic snarl, peak hour, breakdowns, road closures and finally a retreat across to Picton. Penny’s short fuse was now only eclipsed by her aching left hand and arm compliments of the traffic induced intense clutch workout. Hmmmmmm! Definitely not to be recommended for those only used to Melbourne or Brisbane etc’s, so called traffic congestion. Sydney wins that dubious honour hands down.

Wednesday, a new day, and after a beautiful ride to Mossvale and down the pass to Nowra and onto Lake Conjola, we spent a wonderful 2 days with our friends who are blessed to be living in such a gorgeous part of the world. Friday, breakfast was in Bega after a 6.30 am start. By Cann River it was time to stretch the legs. Horrified, Peter noticed what seemed like a large volume of oil spurting from under “ the bird “. Yikes !! How much had I lost? What was the problem? Still a long way from home! We left the bike at a little mechanic shop with loads of our gear - they were truly the most accommodating people - and rode home 2up. We were very thankful that we discovered it when we did, while there was oil still in the engine!! Trailered “ the bird “ home on the Sunday and the good news is, it just seems to be a gasket and seals - compliments probably of that hideous Sydney traffic. –Penny

I finish with; the destination was certainly worth it, but the journey was everything......

What a great Naonal Run I had meeng new peo-ple and greeng old friends

I had a bit of a different trip to most as I flew up and spent some me with my sister up on the sun-shine coast and the reason I flew was to bring my nephews Ninja 250 back to Victoria for him as he has just been posted down in Melb.

In my research on the trip home I found a lile town called Neville so I though this was a must stop and check it out, as it was only 20km out of the way to go there and the road out was a fantasic.

What can I say about Neville it had a populaon of 100 and it was 920 m above sea level the school was sll running with 10 kids in it and it had a Uning Church dang back to 1878 and sll holding services there was also a pub dang back to 1929.

I would like to thank John Krauce for being a big part of my Journey home as he rode with me all the way and also to Penny and Peter for the first part of the trip as well

Queensland National Run 2011

Whatever else I have learned this year. I have learnt one thing: It's not about me. However wrapped up I get in my bike, my club, my ministry... it's not about me!

And it's not about you!

It's not even about us, as CMA.

It's about Him.

Heb 12:1 Put off everything (every weight) that hinders. There are lots of things that hinder us, good and bad. And those things can be differ-ent for all of us.

We should aim to put aside our

self-centeredness, our perfectionism, our materialism, our criticisms and our wrong motivations and look at how we can serve others better, in and through CMA

Love Him, and love others...

What is His love about? Forgiveness!

National Co-coordinator

Jesus forgave me and I need to forgive: outside or inside the kingdom!

And inside is often harder, it seems.

I sometimes feel that Christians would rather live under the Old Covenant and dish out judgment and punishment for God. But I remind myself: “there but for God's wonderful grace, go I”… and go you!

In your dealings with your fallen brother remember he needs grace and forgiveness as much as those not in the kingdom yet.

And how do you compare? Is there no log in your own eye? Are you fit to throw the first stone? Jesus is the only one fit to throw any stones… and he doesn't. So I guess my encouragement for this year is to remember: ‘

it's not about me!”

Nov 5th saw three bikes leaving Frankston for a gentle wander down the Port Phillip side of the Peninsular. We took in the nice twisty bit from Mornington to Safety Beach at a leisurely pace, it was a glorious day, shining sun, gentle breeze, mild temperature, God’s in His heaven and all’s well with the world. Good few bikes on the road and not many idiots.

Got a new idea in paint jobs for vans, there was a grass covered one parked on the side of the road at Rye. Holes cut for the windows and door handles and it was all nicely mowed. On to Sorrento, across to Old Melbourne road, and meander on to Flinders for a well deserved coffee (Iced chocolate) break and a ride home.

Tony, Barry and I had a really good time of fun and chat, everybody who wasn’t there missed out!

Our next run is on December 3 to support the Peninsular Toy Run. We meet at the Frankston Pier car park at 8am. This is a chance to promote CMA to the public in general and to the biking public in particular, so give it a go. (Note that this is a change from the planned ride to Chesterfield farm - we will pick this up next year.)

July 9th Marysville Black Spur With Gordon, Peter and Penny busy with commitments and John likely to be busy with campers at Forest Edge, it was looking as if the July 9th ride could be cancelled. New members Daryl Tate and David McLean, looking for any excuse for a ride, volunteered to organise the day! The day commenced with eight riders and one pillion passenger gathering at The Courthouse Restaurant in Warragul at 9.00am. There was an interesting variety of bikes - including sports bikes, cruisers, tourers and a '70s classic. With Daryl at the lead, we headed towards Neerim South, where there was just a hint of blue sky. It was fresh; however, every-one was enthusiastic and looking forward to a great day. The first part of the ride was straight forward, but started to get more exciting as we turned off at Neerim Junction with its challenging twisty bits! As we headed towards Poweltown, the temperature dropped and a misty rain started to fall. Although it was damp, it did not stop the big smiles inside our helmets! The group made a few more turns and then cruised into Warburton. We parked our bikes and headed into a local coffee shop to fill up and warm up with some steaming hot mugs of coffee. Having thawed out, we then headed to the Upper Yarra Valley Dam for a bit of sightseeing and some photo opportunities. John Krause gave us a display of his sprinting prowess as he dashed to get into a time-exposure photo!

We then mounted up and headed to the east end of the Reefton Spur. We were all anticipating the test of bike and rider, made more difficult with damp patches, huge pieces of bark across the road and the air temperature dropping to 3 degrees Celsius - invigorating! Riding down into Marysville, there were still many reminders of the bushfire devastation that had ripped through the township more than two years earlier. There were signs of new building and fresh starts - just not enough of them. With the bikes parked, a hungry bunch headed into the Marysville bakery to sample some of the fresh produce and of course help support the local economy. The stop for lunch gave all of us the opportunity to tell tales, make friendships and compare bikes! The next part of the ride was along the beautiful Black Spur - made memorable by the pretty rainbow trail on the damp road all the way from Marysville to Healesville (which was left by a vehicle leaking oil or diesel - a little disconcerting!) The road from Healesville to Launching Place gave us all an opportunity to remember what straight roads looked like again! Launching Place via Gembrook to Pakenham brought us back into the twisty bits and produced more big smiles. The Kurth Kiln Regional Park is another very pretty part of Victoria. At 4.00pm and approximately 250 kilometres later, all riders safely rode into Pakenham to refuel and farewell one another. It had been cold and ex-hausting; however, bags of fun! We are all looking forward to the next ride which will be......= David

(Bike doctor has done his back - boo hoo ). Chris Krause & Jenny McPhee - little red Kia Rio Assembly place. Peter and Penny’s Morwell @ 0830 hrs Last arrival 0910 hrs Commencement of trip 0920 hrs Beautiful weather. Brunch in Bairnsdale. It was heavenly riding.Through Bruthen, Newmerella, past Orbost and onto the pretty little villagette of Cann River. Lunch outside. We met a fellow rider heading back to Sydney on his BMW. Always great to talk to fellow bike travelers on the road. Up through the Cann Valley Hwy to Bombala, then some discussion about the shorter route through Dalgety and onto Berridale, bypassing the long loop through Cooma. This was very successful with only a short stretch of newly sealed / loose bitumen to con-tend with. Big scenery. Jinabyne by 4ish. After loading the car with our newly acquired groceries; cars do have their uses, and a quick bite at the $10 / schnitzel local, we headed for Jindabyne East and our digs. What a lovely surprise.

A very nice house with 3 comfortable bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, large living area, great lockup gar-age, deck and a well fitted out kitchen. It also came with a view of the lake, awesome. We settled in and it was great to relax and get ourselves dug in.

Friday morning early, the boys headed up to Thredbo and had their fill of rides on various selected bikes.

Us girls? We talked and drank numerous coffees......then somehow ended up in Cooma trying on clothes. I’m sure Peter wishes I’d had my bike to keep me otherwise engaged. Success all round. Bikes were enjoyed. Clothes were purchased. Weather unbelievably superb. What a dinner that evening. B-B-Q with the lot after a fantastic array of nibbles and wine.

Page 15 Bikes for Pastors

This year has been an exciting and fruitful year for our Bikes for Pastors initiative.

The year was set up by two events late in 2010. Firstly a sausage sizzle held at Mitre 10 Frankston raised $520, thanks to a donation of the sausages and the hard work of all those who were able to come along to help out.

Secondly the Wangaratta Salvation Army hosted a church visit at which they turned the whole service over to CMA, including the offering! This wonderful act of generosity gave us a further $700 which meant that in early 2011 we were in a position to supply a bike to ‘Rob’ through Pioneers Australia.

Pioneers Australia was formed in 1997 by the coming together of Asia Pacific Christian Mission, Sudan United Mission and South Seas Evangelical Mission. Through them we had chosen ‘Rob’ as our next project. Rob (a pseudonym) is working in a particularly sensitive area of Indonesia so for security reasons his real name and place of operations has been withheld.

In his submission he writes

“The availability of a motorbike for our work here would be highly valued. The magnitude of the work here necessitates the use of low cost transport. In addition to this the use of a motorbike also overcomes the difficulty of navigating difficult terrain and accessing localities where roads that facilitate cars are not yet available. The majority of our island is inaccessible by car but is accessible by motorbike.

The method in which we are hoping to reach out to these many isolated tribes is through a mobile reading library. The nationals would carry a number of books out to these remote communities for them to read. The motorbike would therefore become the vehicle used for this mobile reading library. This platform meets two objectives, firstly encouraging literacy in extremely poor and remote areas as well as secondly, facilitating the formation of relationships within these communities and subsequently be able to share the love of Jesus.”

In early 2011 we provided $2,500 for purchase of a bike for this valuable work.

Our next project was Terry & Robyn Collins who have been working near Chiang Mai, northern Thailand, since 2002. They explain their work as

“. . . equipping Thais to reach their own people. Thais can reach their own people far more effectively then we can if they are trained and equipped correctly. With this in mind we are trying to train Thais in the practical areas of evangelism and church planting. . . . .

We have also started a company which currently raises pigs and fish for the purpose of supporting the training from within Thailand. These two farms are and will be used as training facilities for the equipping of evangelists and church planters so that they can have a small business. This empowers them to listen more to the Holy Spirit for guidance rather then be absorbed by worrying about finances. We have found that having a small business also gives them much greater acceptance in a new community.

We also foster intellectually and physically delayed Thai orphan babies. Robyn is a Pediatric Physiotherapist who can deliver therapy that will assist these babies in becoming more available for adoption.”

Church Visit – Langwarrin/Pearcedale Anglican Parish

On Sunday 30th November we did a church visit to St Thomas’ Anglican Church – part of the Langwarrin/Pearcedale Anglican Parish. In months where there is a fifth Sunday, a combined service is held where members of three congregations worship together so the church was quite full. Numbers were swelled further by the presence of the Down South Big Band which provided the music for the service. One of the parishioners at St Thomas’ runs the band and for the past few years they have played at the last combined service each year.

Some members of CMA were able to attend, although for various reasons not all were on their bikes. The inclement weather was not the reason some came by car!! Everyone met at Barry & Pegs and then rode in convoy to the church.

It was particularly encouraging that the husband of one parishioner who is not a church goer came on his bike, attracted not doubt by the motorbike theme.

The visit was a great success. We had a really good service with the Big Band playing both modern and traditional hymns and we raised the roof singing hymns with a swing. From our point of view the good news was that the visit raised $1,035 – $500 from the Parish and $535 from the retiring offering on the day.

Our next project is Ken Thompson, working under CMS with his wife Ally at Mondolkiri, in Cambodia. Recently Ken had contacted us with the suggestion that a ‘took-took’ would meet his needs far better than a provision of a motorbike as it would allow him to move more people and goods around the countryside. He has sourced a possible second hand one and the Executive has decided that although this doesn’t meet our normal criteria, local knowledge is best. We expect to hear from him shortly to finalise details.

As announced at the AGM, a donation of $1,000 has allowed us to provide Terry & Robyn with $2,000 to purchase a bike. However we have just received news that this, plus some of their own funds, has enabled them to buy not one but two bikes! As they say in an e-mail

“When we originally got a quote for a bike we followed the Thais' advice and priced a Honda. As it turns out Honda are much more expensive. So before buying we also priced Suzuki.

As we really needed to different types of bike for travelling to areas in the wet season we thought it would be great to have a conventional road bike plus a bike that would handle both the normal road and the wet muddy roads. We found with Suzuki that if we put in an extra $500 of our own money we could get two new bikes similar to the one Honda we had planned on. This has been great as it is wet season right now and both bikes have been used to greatly assist us in the ministry that God has called us to. We purchased a 110cc road bike, the red one, and a 125cc road bike, the blue one, that is slightly raised and fitted with off road tyres. We would again like to thank you all for your generosity in equipping us to be able to serve in this way.”

The Bikes

During the year we also heard from Robert Ouoko who you will remember we provided a bike for in Uganda last year.

Our next project will be to provide a bike for Ken Thompson who came and gave us such an excellent presentation last year. Ken and his wife Ally are agricultural development of-ficers, based in Mondolkiri, a remote area of eastern Cambodia close to the Vietnam bor-der.

I am really excited that Bikes for Pastors has been able to provide 3 bikes this year and believe that with your support, God will con-tinue to provide us with the funds to maintain this valuable initiative.

At the committee meeting on Sat 14th of May – there was a unanimous decision to purchase a small motorcycle for the Good Samaritan Children’s Home in North Haiti. This orphanage is one that Lisa and Cay first visited in July 2010 and felt the burden to help in some way.

Since then, through God’s provision and giving human hearts, we have managed to rent a home for the 24 children who live in, send them all to school (for some it is the very first time even though they are 11 yrs old), pay their fees and school materials for the 2010 academic year, and provide them 2 meals a day. Each child living in now has a sponsor who helps contribute to the financial cost of raising the child as well as forming a relationship through letters and photos. We also have 84 children on a feeding program who we are seeking sponsorship for.

Think about whether this is an area you would like to help with. The Good Samaritan Children’s Home (GSCH) started in 2008 with some Haitian Christian adults forming a small committee to help care for children who were living in very difficult situations – some children were on the streets trying to fend for themselves, others have no parents, whilst others only have one parent who cannot care for nor feed them. This is when the Good Samaritan Children’s Home North Haiti was birthed. The group of adults rented a tiny house to give the children somewhere to live and they tried to care for them as best as they could.

Lisa, Max and Cay first heard about the children from a Haitian friend who lives in Port au Prince. Frantz is a teacher at another orphanage and his friend Dr Wilbert runs the GSCH. Frantz contacted us in Australia and said that Dr Wilbert was struggling to feed the children as all of the committee were volunteers and no one had a full time job. We promised to visit the home and help where we could. No one would have imagined that we would be forming a ministry to help these children and committed volunteers but God has been directing us in that area. Dr Wilbert is a real medical Dr and he often catches a taxi to head out to rural villages to run a medical clinic in a church. He is rarely paid, although may sometimes receive some rice or beans for his services. He is a man after God’s own heart. The motorcycle donated by CMA

NSW will be used for Dr Wilbert to continue his rural clinics, as well as assist the orphanage in buying their food. It will also transport the 4 smallest children to kindergarten as the distance is quite far for them to walk. Pictured here is Antonio, one of the volunteers and the 4smallest children and Dada (our oldest girl). The bike we buy will be similar to this, although we are hoping to fix a rickshaw type set up to it.
