We started the month with the Marietta Labor Day Parade on Saturday, September 2 . My thanks go to the Legion of Honor and the Provost Units which joined the Divan traveling to Marietta to support their club in the parade. It was a rainy Saturday but when the parade stepped off, the rain ceased until after we completed the parade route. It was a nice parade which was well attended by the public and there was an excellent afterglow provided to us by the Marietta Shrine Club after the parade. Next Aladdin paraded in Grove City at the Arts in the Alley Parade on Saturday, September 16. It was a beautiful morning for a parade and there was a large crowd of people on the side lines to watch the parade pass. On Saturday, September 23 Aladdin participated in the Jackson Apple Festival Parade. It was a nice fall evening and a great parade route that was well attended by the public. Thanks go to the Pike County Shrine Club for a fine pre-glow to get us ready to parade. The Divan had visitations with the Aladdin Car Club, Marietta Shrine Club, Pike County Shrine Club, Voice of Aladdin, as well as the Past Masters Unit and Reception Unit. These were all fun times with great fellowship. The Divan traveled to Springfield, ILL September 13 – 15 to attend the GLSA Annual Session. The session was informative and necessary business was conducted. Congratulations go to Aladdin’s own Bill Amsbaugh, PP who was elected 1 st Vice President at this session on track for the presidency in 2019. We were honored to be joined at the session by Imperial Potentate Gary Bergenske along with Imperial Chief Rabban Jim Cain, Sr. and Imperial Oriental Guide Bill Bailey. The Divan watched the clown competition and two Aladdin clowns placed in their respective category. Mike "Buckethead" Clark placed first in character makeup and Dave "Badger" Brinson placed third in white face makeup. Nobles, it was suggested that there may be some interest in starting a new antique tractor club or something of that ilk. If you are an enthusiast of old tractors, this may be an opportunity to start a new club with fellow enthusiasts for fun and fellowship. If you are interested please contact Potentate Jon Kinney at [email protected] or 740-207-5226. We are also looking to start a culinary or chef unit. The actual name of the new unit may be determined by the new members once it is formed. The purpose of this unit entails running the kitchen, preparing meals for small groups such as stated meetings, club or unit meetings, Oasis events and helping with fish fries, spaghetti dinners, etc. There are multiple opportunities to provide food services throughout the Shrine year. This unit is open to anyone who enjoys cooking regardless if you have experience. All new members will be required to meet training required by the board of health which is easily accomplished online. If you are interested, please contact Potentate Jon Kinney at [email protected] or 740-207-5226. A New Event for Aladdin by Zale Maxwell Nobles, your participation is needed for a new event, the Holiday Festival at the Aladdin Shrine on November 30 through December 2. (See ad on page 12) As you know, our Ill Potentate Jon M. Kinney has been trying many new events for Shriners to have fun and make money for Aladdin. In keeping with this, he has asked me to chair this Aladdin Holiday Festival. The festival committee has spent much time planning and organizing this event, and we need your help to make it a success. During this event, we will be selling holiday items such as decorated Christmas trees, door wreaths, Hanukkah items and other seasonal decoration items. This first year we are seeking donations of new or like new items which can be sold during this fundraising effort. This holiday festival will have additional happenings such as vendors with seasonal items, sales of holiday cookies and hot chocolate and a possible visit from the jolly guy. On December 2 there will even be a holiday breakfast. We are seeking donations of decorated Christmas trees (6 ½’ - 8’), decorated tabletop trees (3’ or smaller), door wreaths and other holiday seasonal items. They may be dropped off at Aladdin the week of the event (starting November 27 and prior to noon on November 30). Please contact Zale Maxwell, HP&P at 740-215-6849 or at [email protected] for details and other ways in which you can help.

Dues Now DueBy now each noble should have received a 2018 Aladdin Shriners dues notice with payment due on or before December 31, 2017. A noble’s dues are $89.00 per year, but not all of it remains with Aladdin Shrine. As part of this payment, Shriners International receives $35.00 for each noble on our roster. From this $35.00 amount, $30.00 is a “per capita assessment” going to Shriners International with the remaining $5.00 going to Shriners Hospital for Children®.

Aladdin Shriner receives only $54.00 per noble for its dues. Less than 61% of the $89.00 amount remains to pay our operational costs including but not limited to building, personnel, vehicles, utilities, insurance premiums and real estate taxes.

For less than fifteen cents per day ,each noble can take part in Aladdin Shrine activities while also being an integral part of the largest philanthropic fraternity in the world.

Recently the membership team personally contacted over 300 nobles still owing 2017 dues. A short personal, one-on-one conversation prevented numerous nobles from being suspended. One common response during the conversations was that the noble never received a dues notice. An easy way to check your Aladdin membership record and dues balance is to go online to WebFez. (Instruction for registering at WebFex is on page 3.) Each Noble can review his own membership record and make changes so that we have correct information. If you have not received a notice and do not have computer access, please call the Aladdin Shrine office. The staff will mail you a dues notice.

The Aladdin Fall Ceremonial is Saturday, November 4, 2017. There was a large One-Day Masonic Class last spring. Let’s take advantage of this and enlist new nobles. There is plenty of time to do so. We have a wonderful facility and plenty of activities to interest new Masons. Each of us can invite a Mason friend to a Shrine event. Let him see for himself why Shrine membership is important to you.

The Fall Ceremonial fee is $215.00 for each candidate. This includes the 2018 annual dues. The cost of an embroidered fez is $70.00 and a jeweled fez is $137.00. Either fez will show others that you are a proud Shrine-Mason. Also, make sure you ask your candidate for his fez size or contact Kristin at the main office for further size information. Petitions are available at our website www.aladdinshrine.org under forms. Go out and seek others to make a membership investment. The Potentate’s theme says it all: "having fun and fellowship with family and friends while serving an important and very worthwhile purpose."

Activities scheduled for October include visitations with the Ambassador, Bucyrus, Gallipolis, Hilltop, Madison County and Aladdin Photography Shrine Clubs as well as the Provost Unit. Once again we will travel to Circleville to participate in the Circleville Pumpkin Show Parade. The Friday night Oasis event will be on Saturday, October 28 when we have our Halloween Party and Dance. Also this month there is something new—Aladdin is sponsoring a Walk for Love in Chillicothe on Saturday morning, October 7 with the proceeds going to our Shriners Hospitals for Children®—Cincinnati. Looks like a fun new event and I encourage all Shriners and their families to participate.

The stated meeting will be Monday, October 16. The guest speaker will be Pam Howard, the mother of twins who at the age of two were seriously burned in an accident at a cousins house. Both children were admitted and treated for burns at our Shriners Hospital for Children®.

Our next Ceremonial (full form) will be on Saturday, November 4. There is still time to submit petitions for new members but don’t wait too long. As I have stated before, membership is every Shriners responsibility and I am asking you to step up to the plate this year and recruit a candidate for our next Ceremonial. Let’s fill the ballroom with new nobles on November 4.

We finished September with a trip to the Bourbon Trail on September 28 – 30. We visited nine distilleries in three days and had a great time sampling a little of their products. They give a lesson on how to properly drink bourbon. I volunteered to stay after class for more instruction as I wasn’t certain I was getting it right! It was a fantastic trip and all who attended had a great time. A "tip of the fez" goes to Steve Hathaway PP, Chief of Staff Gene Steineman and Membership Chairman Bob Warner who put a lot of work into organizing this trip and even went down to scout out the trip in advance.

I am proud to be an Aladdin Shriner, are you?

Chaplain’s Chat by D. Dee Mowry, P.P.

Chaplain D. Dee Mowry, PP

Cincinnati Hospital by Bob Lazenby & D. Dee Mowry, P.P.The August meeting of the Cincinnati Hospital Board of Governors was unique as it was the culmination of the annual Divan Days observance.

Divan Days were celebrated this year on Friday, August 25 and Saturday, August 26. Friday night activities included a Cincinnati Reds baseball game. Saturday morning began with a continental breakfast from 8:00-9:30 a.m. and hospital tours began at 8:30 a.m. The formal portion of the meeting began with a welcome by Board Chair Dave Aaronson who gave the official welcome. Television and video clips highlighting various aspects of hospital functions were presented. The featured speaker for the morning was Tom Browning, pitcher for the 1990 World Series winning Cincinnati Reds and former All-Star Hall of Fame, 2006, “Mr. Perfect” for pitching a perfect game. The open board meeting for all nobles was convened at 1:00 p.m. with a minimal agenda.

It was pleasing to see Aladdin Shriners represented by Ill. Sir Jon Kinney, High Priest and Prophet Zale Maxwell, Oriental Guide Art Wilson, 1st Ceremonial Master Roscoe Smith, 2nd Ceremonial Master Mark Froehlich, Chief of Staff Gene F. Steineman and Noble Mark and Brenda Layman. Financial presentations of $17,109.51 were given during the day and a presentation was made by Lady Brenda Layman of an enormous amount of stuffed toys made by the ladies of our own Ladies Oriental Shrine, Thea Court #5. Lady Brenda is the associate princess of Court # 5. Thea Court has been a long time and very important supporter of your Cincinnati Hospital. Their work is noticed and sincerely appreciated.

The next board meeting will be September 27.

HARVEY, IRMA, JOSE, KAT (something or other), hurricanes, earthquakes, tsunamis, wildfires... What is going on?

Where in the world is God? This is the title of a 40 day devotional written by Stephen J. Carter. Mr. Carter, citing Second Peter 3:6-7, states, “Hurricanes strike fear into many hearts as weather experts track the developing storms leaving uncertainty about the precise location and intensity. Devastation often follows. Equally frightening, forest fires rage uncontrolled and destroy life and property in mountain regions and coastal California.

Powerful images on television and the Internet bring these natural disasters into our homes and make us grieve as people suffer. How do we respond? We pray, contribute, sometimes go to help and hope that we will not experience these disasters. Hurricanes, fires, etc. are reminders to us that God, who can destroy the whole earth with a breath, wants nothing more than to save his people from the ultimate destruction of death.”

Why do these things happen? The Biblical story of Job comes to mind. According to the prophet, Ezekiel, Job of the land of Uz was one of the three most righteous men who ever lived; the other two were Noah (flood) and Daniel (lions’ den; NOT the bookstore!). Job, however, survived catastrophic destruction of his family, health, his wealth but was innocent of wrongdoing in the midst of all his agony.

Job’s agony was a test by Satan and evil forces. Even Job’s friends, Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar, insisted that Job confess his sins and wrongdoings to relieve his suffering. Job defends his innocence and summons God to judge his case.

In the end God rewards Job with a new family and a very large estate. Job did not lose his faith despite all this turmoil. Is our faith being challenged?

Lord, use hurricanes and fires to point us to your love for us and through us. Amen

Cleft Lip & PalateFor 2017, as my lady’s project, I have chosen to raise funds to donate to researchers at our Cincinnati Hospital to support their research efforts concerning cleft lip and palate nutrition (CLP). It is critical to minimize the wide spread occurrence of under-nutrition in CLP babies and to advance the science and practice of nourishment techniques.

Cleft lip and palate is among the most common of congenital anomalies. One out of every 500 – 700 babies will be born with cleft lip and/or palate. An important aspect in the care of a newborn with CLP is nourishment.

The objectives of this research study is to:• Better understand the maternal, environmental and infant factors that influence breast

milk feeding in babies with CLP. • Identify infant factors that promote or hinder breast milk intake. • The development of new model/methods of care to better support the mother – baby dyad. Please join me in helping the doctors and nutrition specialists gain knowledge in helping

a mother of a CLP baby give her child a healthy start in life. After all, isn’t that all mothers want for their children—to be healthy and happy? Your donation to my project will go a long way in the research of CLP nutrition.

How to Donate to First Lady Cindy's Project:• Donations made to Cindy's project by Shriners, donors, clubs and units (at visitations)

will be donated to the Cincinnati Hospital in support of the research project stated.• Donations may also be made for the bracelets and/or earrings she is offering. These

donations will be sent to the Cincinnati Hospital.• For questions or to donate to the project, contact Chief of Staff Lady Betty Steineman,

[email protected] or 614-937-7995.

The Marietta Shrine Club has had a busy August and September with parades and other activities as we go into the fall season.

We were in the Waterford, Ohio Fair Parade, the Parkersburg, W.Va. Homecoming Parade and the Washington County Fair Parade in Marietta to start the Labor Day weekend. We hosted several clubs from Ohio and West Virginia as well as Aladdin for the Marietta Parade. Following the parade, we held a social gathering for all at our facility.

Our August meeting included our ladies and the athletic director, coaches and 20 football player from Marietta College. Guest speaker, Jimmie Bell, OSU and professional football player, gave an inspirational talk about living life to its fullest. As always, our kitchen staff performed admirably.

The Provost Unit resumed its normal business schedule on September 12. Director Hartsell opened the meeting by asking those in attendance to observe a moment of silence for the victims of 9-11 and those affected by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.

A moment of silence was also held for Provost Unit members Danny Augg, Jim Cooper and Charlie Dozer. They have passed away since our

June meeting. The various committees presented their reports. The Provost Sunshine

Committee reported Bill Dountz is in a nursing facility, but his spirits and appetite are doing well as he continues to battle various ailments. Brian Workman and his family were victims of a house fire. There were no injuries but many items, including two family pets, were lost.

Under new and continuing business, the Provost jailhouse was recently completed and installed on the parade trailer. Special thanks go to Barney Barnitz for all the time and effort he put into building it. The Potentate’s Visitation and Ladies Night will be on Tuesday, October 10. An updated group photo of the Provost Unit members will also be taken at the event.

The Provost Unit participated with the Aladdin Shrine in the Grove City Arts in the Alley Parade on September 16. Everyone had a great time. Special thanks go to our “scooper,” Howard Beane, and to our “jailbird,” Danny Meenach, for role playing as prisoners for the parade.

Celebrating birthdays in October are Roderick L. Basye, Dave N. Brooks, Thomas J. Colburn, Ted Hall, and James M. Liebherr.

Hope to see you on at the meeting on October 10. It is also when we will be bidding farewell to many of our snowbirds for the winter.

We were humbled to be invited to perform for our veterans on 9/11 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Chillicothe. It was especially meaningful for our veterans in the unit to pay respect forward to those who served and to those who serve them daily.

As our busy summer parade season winds down, we look forward to some of our favorite fall events like the Circleville Pumpkin Show Parade (10/20). There is just something special about marching in a nighttime parade with a chill in the air and beautiful fall leaves in the background. We really appreciate the great enthusiasm that the Circleville Pumpkin Show crowd adds to the performance. If you have not experienced this event, check it out!

In October, we have Kirkin Services in Newark (10/22) and Marion (10/29). “Kirkin' o' Th' Tartan” translated means a blessing of the tartans or blessing of the families. Kirkin of The Tartan worship services have been held throughout America since the early 1940s, but the tradition is rooted in 18th century Scottish faith and patriotism.

When the English conquerors banned the wearing of tartan in 1745, some Scottish families began to carry swatches of material concealed under their clothing into their church services. At some point in the service when the minister gave a blessing, the people would touch their hidden bits of tartan as a way to recommit themselves to the Lord and their Scottish heritage.

Our unit continues to grow—we need more percussionists. If you play the drums or even if you have always wanted to learn to play the drums and can march, this may be the unit for you. You are welcome to come check us out. We typically practice the second, third and fourth Tuesdays of each month at the Aladdin Shrine in Grove City. You are welcome to come visit us at our practices regardless if you are a Shriner yet. Come see what we are all about!

You can keep up with the latest on our unit and performances on Facebook at www.facebook.com/aladdinshrinepipes and Twitter @AladdinShrinePD

Two of our clowns competed in GLSA Fall Convention in Springville, Ill. Dave “Badger” Brinson took third in white face makeup (It was Dave’s first time in competition.) and Mike “Buckethead” Clark took first place in character makeup.

Dave Brinson was accepted as the new treasure for our unit. He will be replacing Steve McKitrick who has resigned the office because of his new job.

October Events: The Jackson Apple Festival and Circleville Pumpkin Show Parade are in October. We have the Halloween party on October 28.

Birthdays: Steve McKitrick, October 14.Sunshine: Prayers are needed for Jack Bope [surgery], Don Tootle, Irv Denune and Greg

Osborne and for those not mentioned here who are having troubles or illness too. Please keep the first responders and military folks in your daily thoughts and prayer as well!God bless, be in peace and live well! The September monthly meeting for Senior Shriners was open by Vice President Rod Basye in

the absence of President William Amspaugh Jr., PP. The prayer was given by Gary Shoemaker. The secretary welcomed Crowell Shane, a new member. The sick and distressed list shows

that Pat Whittington is on the mend.At the end of the month, letters will be going out to members who have not been

attending the meetings. The treasurer read his report and then we had a guest speaker from our financial advisor at Baird. He reported that if we continue using the money at the rate we are going now, it will be depleted in about 10 years. It was recommended that dues be increased. That will be discussed at the October meeting.

The meeting was finished with some humor by Jim Stelzer and the benediction was given by Gary Shoemaker.

The meeting opened at 7:30 p.m. with prayer given by Chaplain O. Wayne Fulmer. We gave the pledge to our flag. All Nobles were welcomed by our 1st Vice President Steve Sipes, who was filling in for President Noble Dan Truax who was working. We had 17 in attendance.

As of now we have one candidate for the November Ceremonial. We need some more guys. MOTOR PATROL: It has one parade: Steubenville, 9:00 a.m., December 9.HOUSE AND GROUNDS: A big thank you goes to Noble Art Miller and his Lady Marilynn

for doing the grass cutting; to Noble Wes Darling and crew for running a new water line to shelter house; and to Noble Larry Sneathin and President Noble Dan Truax for painting. A new roof will be coming soon. It will be metal and will look great .

SHRINE CHILDREN: So far this month we had two trips to Erie Hospital. There will be one more for October and this will put us at 12 for the year. That's all for now. Be safe. God bless. God gave you a gift of 86,400 seconds today. Have you used one to say "thank you?"

by Don OwensReception The Reception Unit scheduled the kickoff of fall activity with the annual Potentate’s visit on September 21. Many old timers (wait, we’re all old timers) signed up to show support for Potentate Jon M. Kinney and his lady, Cindy. Grilled lemon chicken and assorted trimmings were on the bill of fare. The unit honored the Potentate by donating funds toward the enhancement of the Oasis patio.

New memorial pavers, looking good in their new location on the east side of Aladdin Temple, complete the relocation of pavers from Stelzer Road. Looking ahead, the next Ceremonial will be on Saturday, November 4. We urge you to attend.

Finally, we regret to report the passing of Roberta “Birdie” Yarnell on September 2 at 8:30 p.m. She and Noble Clyde Yarnell were married for 63 years. Our condolences go to Clyde and the family.

Happy birthday wishes go to Treasurer and Past Director Mike Johnson, Jack Davis, and Past Potentates Dee Mowry and Tom Colburn. Many happy returns of the day, gentlemen.

The meeting was called to order by President Rocky Arledge at 7:00 p.m. Opening prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance were given by Noble Rusty Green.

President Rocky welcomed our guests, Assistant Rabban Rodney L. Holdren of Aladdin Shrine and Noble Howard Schuenaman, president Ross County Shrine.

President Rocky thanked Noble Bob Baranick for the excellent meal he prepared before the meeting. During the meeting a motion was made and approved by the Nobles to make Noble Bob a lifetime member of Pickaway Shrine Club.

Minutes of the June meeting were read by Noble Roger Fausnaugh. A motion was made by Noble Jeff McClannahan and second by Noble Rusty Green to accept the minutes. The financial report was given by Noble Jim Willeford. A motion was made by Noble Jeff Reams and second by Noble Carl Hemming to accept the report. All Nobles voted in favor of both.

We were informed that Noble Bill Dountz is at Brown Memorial Home, Circleville, Ohio 43113.

During the business meeting Noble Carl reported on the Shrine/KC Golf Outing held September 9. Noble Roger said he has been working with Noble Robert Warner of the Aladdin Shrine to update our membership with theirs. We also discussed regulating the temperature of the building during idle time. Noble Kirk Patrick was going to follow up on the regulating thermostats.

Thanks go to Bruce and Dave Roese for supplying blacktop to fill in pot holes in the parking lot and thanked Noble Kevin Hulse and Noble Asa Elsea for their labor to repair. Thanks also go to Noble Jim for his effort to have us approved to be exempt of our property taxes.

We are in need of help during the Circleville Pumpkin Show. This is the biggest money maker for our club. It is an excellent time to join in to support our club and to enjoy other members. Please contact Noble Carl Hemming at 740-474-5019.

After the meeting Assistant Rabban Rodney showed a presentation about the Shrine Hospital in Tampa that has helped a girl from birth and about her family and their appreciation. It also tells what she has done for the Shrine. He told us of upcoming dates and events at the Aladdin Shrine.

There were a total of 14 members at the meeting. Meeting was closed at 8:00 p.m. by President Rocky and closing prayer given by Noble Rusty.

Remember our meetings are always the fourth Monday of the month.

What a great turnout we had for our visit by Potentate Jon M. Kinney, his lady, Cindy, and the Divan officers. We had 74 nobles and ladies attend this year. It was a fun evening of fellowship, information and excellent food. We even had two of our special ladies, Harriett Allen and Dee Beeman, in attendance. What a night!

Many thanks go to Dave Gubanc, Charlie Neff, Phil Clouse and all others who helped make our unit picnic a success. With 50 attendees the turnout was substantially above previous years. We had some great side dishes and desserts and it was obvious from what was left over that everyone brought their appetite as well. We also received some nice gifts from Clayton and others which added to having a good time.

I want to thank Dick Bull, Garry Fortner, Pete Hammond, Lou Ardit, Ron Leonard, PP, Randy Cottrill, Don Forquer, and Jim Stelzer for marching in the Bucyrus Parade with me. It was an enjoyable parade and we all attended the afterglow where fellowship was plentiful. Having a few of our ladies ride up to Bycyrus with us and watch us march in the parade was appreciated.

SICK AND DISTRESSED: Lou Ardit and a friend got ill in Cincinnati in July and was taken to a local hospital. They think is was food poisoning. They are feeling much better now.

Bruce Kinsey woke up on Saturday, August 5 around 1:00 a.m. with chest pains. He went to the local hospital and was transferred to Riverside. He got a heart cath on Monday morning. Got home Monday afternoon and is doing great.

What a month the bands have had. The Aladdin Dixieland Band was down at the Portsmouth River Days Parade on Labor Day Weekend. What a long day that was for that group! The Aladdin Dance Band had its fall dance. There wasn’t as big a turn out like the spring dance, but it was a great time.

The Aladdin Concert Band performed at Past Time Park in Plain City. There was a nice turn out of local folks along with friends and family of the Aladdin Shrine Concert Band. We only had the Aladdin Band participate in the Grove City Parade; that parade had a large turnout. Above is a float full of band members.

Director Nelson is still out of commission after his back surgery and we hope the recovery is going well.

Noble Karl Schmidt is moving to South Carolina. Karl has been with the Aladdin Concert Band and Dixieland Band for years. Karl, the guys from up north (Phil, Larry, Steve—we carpool together) will miss you dearly. Best of luck down south and drop us a note once in a while.

We would like to send our condolences to Joe Briggs on the passing of his lady in September. The bands thoughts and prays are with him and his family.Upcoming Events

Nobles of Aladdin, we are still looking for musicians to play in the concert band. It can be a wife, daughter or son. So if you know anyone, please contact Jim Esswein or just come out to a concert band rehearsal. We are also looking for some roadies (quartermaster help) too.

Kambri by Dick BrixnerUnion County by Charles GillHello to all Our Brother Nobles, Far and NearLately I’ve been thinking about the word dependability. Webster’s dictionary defines the word as "the trait of being dependable or reliable.” I think the key word here is “trait.” In talking to our fraternal brothers for many years now, I have observed multiple traits of commonality among us that are almost guaranteed. These positive traits were taught and/or acquired as youth and reinforced through our Masonic degree work. Again, Shriners and Masons are not angels. We’ve all been up and we’ve all been down in life. I could focus on some of the other traits that are extensions of our fraternal men of honorable character (faith in God, loyalty, truth, relief, patriotic, humility, etc), however, for this writing the trait is dependability.

I have witnessed actions by our brother nobles here in Union County and I am pleased to talk about it. I’m not saying we have a 1,000 batting average for dependability in our club, but I am proud to say we do have a batting average that would qualify for the H.O.F. in Cooperstown. I’ve observed it. I’ve been on the receiving end of it. I am proud and thankful to witness it—our brothers helping brothers. A sick brother? We are there. A Tin Lizzy car is broken down and our pit crew is there to help other brothers get their little cars repaired and ready to parade. We have events and meetings—our brothers turn out. Our fundraisers—our brothers turn out. Community events—our brothers turn out. Getting our Shriners kids to our Shriners Hospitals for Children®—our nobles turn out to transport families and get those Shriners kids the treatment they need.

When our brothers can’t turn out because of life changing events, we pick up the slack to cover for each other. I have rarely seen the ball dropped and when it happens we fight hard to recover the ball. Our Shriner kids depend on our dependability. We depend on each other as brother nobles first, to get the work done, because, ultimately our special children are depending on each of us to be dependable. Let’s continue our reputation for dependability. Keep it up, U.C.S.C. We are a working club dedicated to service, smiles, fun, all through brotherly love, relief, and truth.

Tabloids - Members continue to plan for our next fundraising drive.Cans for Kids - As always members continue to collect cans to help our children in need

and the bins are being filled with cans.Union County Fair - Members of the fair board came back a second time to congratulate

our club for our dependability and to get our suggestions to make the 2018 fair even better and more efficient.

Memorial Tournament - The planning for 2018 is underway.Tin Lizzy Patrol - Grove City Parade was September 16 and the Urbana Parade was

September 23. It’s been a great parade season this year and we have a great time driving our little cars for our kids and the Shrine.

Annual Pancake Breakfast - There was good participation and dependability shown by our brother nobles who cooked, waited tables, and setup, etc. There was a nice community turnout as well.

Please keep our ill, fallen and bereaved in your minds, hearts, and prayers. Please continue to pray for our military and our government leaders to keep our country whole, prosperous, and safe. Three things in human life are important: the first is to be kind; second is to be kind; and the third is to be kind. The Union County Shrine Club appreciates your attention and your support.

Your Kambri Shrine Club Directors met on Thursday, September 14 to finalize plans for this year's remaining meetings. Noble Tom Fisher opened the meeting with a word of prayer. The election of officers for 2018 took center stage. We are working on the same and the slate will be finalized and voted on at our November meeting at Deep Cut Tavern.

Our next event will be our steak fry on October 12 at the Plumbers and Pipefitters Hall. This is open to your ladies and potential Shriners. The steaks will be "fork tender" and will be tested numerous times before coming into the building. It is entertaining just watching the cooks drop steaks, etc. Our Aladdin Potentate Jon M. Kinney will attend and will be honoring one of our nobles. Nobles, we have a great program planned. Vane Scott, III will present "The Many Faces of Old Glory." Please plan to attend this event. In today's world, we need even stronger support for Old Glory and need to be thankful for the freedoms we have. We need to pray for the same.

The officers for the coming year will be elected on November 9 when we meet at the Deep Cut Tavern. Nobles, plan to attend, support your club, and be aware of who is elected. You are welcome to step up and take an office or be there to protect your name from nomination. This evening is a stag event. Come, enjoy and have a good time.

On December 14, we will hold our annual Christmas party at the Plumbers and Pipefitters Hall. We will have a catered meal by Shirley Dolan; Santa will make an appearance and we have entertainment. The musical group, "Pureheart," will return for another performance.

Nobles, have you read the September issue of the Lamp? Did you see that our Kambri Shrine raised $4,381.10 on Tabloid Day. This money will go to our hospitals in the area.

Do you have any Masonic friends who would like to join Shrine? The Ceremonial is November 4 at Aladdin. You can read about what is happening at the Cincinnati, Lexington and Erie Shriners Hospitals. If you are looking to 2018, the potentate will be taking a trip to Italy.

Nobles, is anyone interested in owning a Tin Lizzie? If so, come to the next three Kambri events and talk to Noble Frank Potts.

As always, this is your club; come out and enjoy. Get involved. The more events you attend, the more fun, food and fellowship will happen. See you soon.

Singing with the Chanters by John IbenThe Chanters held their annual picnic on Sunday, September 10. It was well attended and all are looking forward to singing after the group was dark for the summer.

Our next rehearsal is on Monday, October 2 at 7:30 p.m. We will meet at 1687 Riverbirch Drive, Columbus, OH 43229 which is east just off Karl Road. We will practice music for the Ceremonial scheduled November 4 at Aladdin Shrine. Another rehearsal will be scheduled for Monday, October 30 just before the Ceremonial.

Other music we will practice includes “Hey, Look Me Over,” "He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother,” “We’re The Men,” “Stouthearted Men,” “It’s a Grand Night for Singing,” “Let There Be Peace On Earth,” “Unchained Melody,” “God Bless America,” “May the Road Rise to Meet You” and “Star Spangled Banner.”

Chanters need to put Monday, December 4, 2017 on their calendars for the Chanters Christmas Party at Schmidt’s Sausage Haus. Those interested in becoming a member of the Chanters, please call John Iben at 614-459-7363. All four parts—tenor, lead, baritone and bass are welcome.

The weather was perfect for the Grove City Parade. The LOH had three marching, QM Jeff Rader, PP/PC Mike Tyne and CMDR John Iben. Two were riding in the Jeep, PC Dave Quinn and PC Jim Rock. Oops! I have a correction for the Baltimore Parade. I missed QM Jeff Rader’s name. He was the sixth LOH member there. Jeff was marching next to me and I still missed him. What can I say?

The LOH plans to attend the Chillicothe Walk of Love on October 7. We will present the colors and lead in singing the national anthem. We are one of several units and clubs representing the Aladdin Shrine. Hope to see everyone there.

Our LOH Divan Representative, Art Wilson, reported on the latest status of our jeep at the LOH September meeting. The jeep may leak oil, but the mechanics declare it road worthy. Art Wilson, this year’s Oriental Guide, is a hard worker and has always been there when any unit needed his help or support long before becoming a Divan member. I just want to take this opportunity to say THANK YOU.

Our next LOH meeting is scheduled at the Aladdin Shrine, 7:30 p.m. on October 9. We will nominate our 2018 officers at this meeting. Richard Luckay is the nomination chairman

The Aladdin Fall Ceremonial will be on the November 4.Under new business, word has been received that Black Camel made a visit to our club

and took Noble Kenny Rossman on September 7. He died in the Buffalo, New York area. A sympathy card was signed and sent to his son Jon.

Noble Ross Lohrber made a motion and it passed to place an ad for $75 in the 10th Masonic District Blue Book. Membership Chairman Don Doll said several nobles have not paid their

2017 dues. It was decided that Noble Doll will send a reminder letter to those nobles.Noble Ridgeway informed everyone we will need a cook after the October meeting.

Present cook, Noble Ted Williams, will be gone until the April meeting. Noble Hydinger informed the club he has been made aware of a Hardin County child who

was born with cleft lip. He will make contact with the family to inform them that the Shrine Hospital in Cincinnati could probably help them.

Noble Charles “Ox” Carson was recently diagnosed with leukemia and has started treatments. It was also reported the Noble Roger Black recently suffered a stroke.

The kitchen crew was Ted Williams, Carl Musselman, Richard Walden, Earl Rice, and Rowe Garmon. They were thanked for preparing the evening meal. Noble Weaver closed the meeting with prayer.
