EMERGENCYCOMMUNICATIONPROCEDURES Intheeventofaseriousinjury,thecertifiedathletictrainers,athletictrainingstudents,coaches,andathleticadministratorsmustbepreparedtoactivateEmergencyMedicalServicestorequestmedicalassistance.Theprocedurewillvaryaccordingtothelocationoftheinjuredathleteandaccordingtothecommunicationsystembeingutilized.Pleaserefertoappendicesforspecificemergencyplanforeachsite.IntheeventofaseriousinjurythepreferredmethodformedicalassistanceistoactivateEMSbydialing911,eitherbycampusphonesorcellphone.CCSUCampuspolicewillrespondto911callsandaretrainedasfirstresponders.Anautomatedexternaldifibulator(AED),oxygen,andbasicfirstaidequipmentareavailablewhencampuspolicearrivesonscene.PublicAccessAEDsarelocatedinthefollowinglocationsintheeventofacardiacemergency:

Allremoteentrancegatestotheathleticfieldshavebeennumberedandlabeled“Gate”withacorrespondingnumber.Pleaserefertotheathleticfieldmapforspecificgatenumbersandprovidethisnumberwhencommunicatingwithemergencypersonnelinordertoassisttheminarrivingtoyourlocation.CampuspolicehasdirectradiocontactwiththerespondingEMSunitandwillassistEMSinarrivingtotheinjuredathleteinthequickestmanner.EMShasremotestoopenallgatestothecampus.CampusPhonevs.CellPhoneAll911callsmadefromacampuslandlinephonewillgodirectlytoNewBritainDispatchCenter.Inadditiontoactivating911,pleasecontact(whenfeasible)campuspoliceat860-832-2375toconfirmEMSisresponding.All911callsfromaCELLPHONEMAYconnecttoHartfordDispatchoftheConnecticutStatePolice(ornextavailabletower).Callermustinformdispatchthatyouarecallingfrom“CentralConnecticutStateUniversity,NewBritain”andasktobetransferredtoNEWBRITAINdispatchforamedicalemergencytorequestEMS.

SUGGESTEDMETHODFORMEDICALASSISTANCEALGORITHMThefollowingisa“suggested”methodforobtainingmedicalassistanceforathleticinjuriesthatmayoccurduringpracticesand/orcompetition.Ifyouareuncomfortablewiththeinjurysituationnomattertheseverity,PLEASEDONOTHESITATETOCALL911.NEVERattempttotransportinjuredorillathletestotheathletictrainingfacilityshouldtheypresentwithasignificantlyinjuredorillness–call911fromyourlocation.Thisisespeciallyimportantwithlifethreateninginjuriesandillnesses–headinjuries,internalinjuries,cardiacevents,breathingconditions(includingasthma),allergicreactions(beestings),andheatrelatedillnesses.
