DUTIES: l977 - 1979 Epidemic Intelligence Officer, Center for Disease Control. Surveillance of

parasitic diseases in the United States, including surveillance of malaria and publishing of Annual Malaria Surveillance Report; advising on clinical aspects of parasitic diseases; rendering epidemic aid; organizing pilot surveillance for toxoplasmosis. This function requires training in all aspects of parasitic and tropical diseases both within the United States and abroad, and consultation is provided to private physicians and to local, state, national and international health agencies. Parasitic Diseases Division, CDC, has a drug service whose function is to provide investigational drugs for the treatment of tropical diseases. This function requires a detailed knowledge of clinical tropical medicine, therapeutics, and investigational drug procedures, and collaboration with pharmaceutical companies and the Food and Drug Administration.

l979 - 1981 Chief, Kidney Disease Activity. Administer a program to increase the number of

cadaveric kidneys retrieved through training of and providing technical assistance to procurement programs; conduct epidemiologic studies concerning the prevention of kidney disease. Provide consultation to state health departments regarding diabetes control project.
