b) Chemical analysis: it includes qualitative and quantitative analysis:

Examination aims to identify the constituents of the substance, determination of

concentration or quantity of the constituents of the sample. (P:15)(1 mark)

2- 4 marks (1×4=4)

The effect of changes on the concentration of hydrogen in the equilibrium system

(school’s book P:58)

a) Addition of more CO2 : disturbance takes place and the reaction goes forward to

consume the excess amount of CO2 and the concentration of hydrogen reduces.

b) Addition of more water vapour : disturbance takes place and the reaction goes

reversible to consume the excess amount of H2O and so the concentration of

hydrogen increase.

c) Increasing the temperature : the reaction absorbs energy the reaction goes to forward

to consume the increasing in heat and so the concentration of hydrogen decrease.

d) Decreasing the vessel volume (increasing pressure) The number of volumes in

reactants = number of volumes resulted from reaction, so no effect for increasing

pressure and the concentration of hydrogen does not change.

Equivalent mass of iron = atomic mass/valency = 55.86/3 = 18.62 gm (½ mark)

The deposition of 18.62 gm of iron needs 96500 coulomb

And deposition of 5.6 gm of iron needs X coulomb (½ mark)

Quantity of electricity = mass of deposited substance × 96500 / equivalent mass of

deposited substance (½ mark)

= 5.6 × 96500 / 18.62 = 29022.5 coulomb. (½ mark)

2- 2 marks (one mark for equation and one mark for structure)

the molecule of detergent consists of tail which is a long carbon chain, It is hydrophobic.

The other part is hydrophilic head and it is an ionized group and is directed towards

water. (P:139)

3- (6 marks) a) one mark, b) 5 marks)

a) The functional group in organic compounds: it is a group of atoms combine together

by a certain way to form a part of the molecule. However, its activity overcomes all

the other properties of the whole molecule. (p:147) (1 mark)

Question (4) (15marks)

First (8 marks) 2× 4

1- Because the molecular mass of CO2 (44 gm) is more than that of H2 (2gm) and the two

masses equipy equal volumes at( S.T.P) and the denisity = mass/volume, so the density

of carbon dioxide is more than the density of oxygen.

2- When dissolving iron (III ) chloride in water, Fe(OH)3 is formed which is a weak alkali

and no hydrochloric acid is formed because it is a strong acid which leads to

disturbance of equilibrium and the water is ionized to produce H+ to compensate the

hydroxyl according to Le-Chatelier principle and the concentration of hydrogen ions

increases and producing pH<7

FeCl3 → 3Cl− + Fe3+

3H2O 3 H+ + 3OH−

By addition

H2O + FeCl3 → 3H+ + 3Cl− + Fe(OH)3

3- Because the weak electrolyte are not completely ionized. so the ionic equilibrium takes

place between the molecules and the ions which leads to the possibility of applying the

law of mass action.

4- Because the angles between the bonds in cyclo propane equals 60○ which leads to weak

overlap between the atomic orbitals, therefore the bonds between carbon atoms are

weak – so it is very active. While in n-butane there is a strong overlap between orbitals

forming the strong sigma bonds which is difficult to be broken and so it is chemically

inactive.

Second:(7 marks)(P:84)

1- two marks and half

Number of moles of hydrochloric acid used =10×0.1/1000 = 0.001 mole (½ mark)

It is known that 1 mole of sodium hydroxide reacts with 1 mole of hydrochloric acid,

therefore the number of moles of sodium hydroxide = 0.001 mole.(½ mark)

1 mole of sodium hydroxide = 1 + 16 + 23 = 40 gm (½ mark)

The mass of sodium hydroxide in the mixture = 40×0.001= 0.04 gm. (½ mark)

% sodium hydroxide in the mixture = 0.04×100 / 0.1= 40% (½ mark)

2- four and half marks (1 mark for each equation and ½ mark for condition)
