Sunday, November 5, 20177:00 AM - 9:00 AM Registration Check-In - Marriott Lobby

8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Geochemical Lab Analysis: Under the Hood Instructor: Sarah Rice, ALS GlobalLocation: Downtown Marriott Hotel, Juneau Room

Course description: Is your geochemical data fit for purpose? It’s an all-important question in our current exploration and mining environment, with the pressure on for successful and cost-effective sampling programs. This course is designed for geologists and prospectors who want to effectively leverage the huge selection of analytical methods available, whether you’re working in greenfields exploration, resource estimation or grade control. Bring your thinking caps – there will be pop quizzes!

Monday, November 6, 2017

7:00 AM - 9:00 AM Registration Check-In - Marriott Lobby

8:00 AM - 2:00 PM Short Course: ANILCA: What You Need to Know Instructors: Dick Mylius, Retired Director, Division of Mining, Land and Water, Alaska Department of Natural Resources, Tina Cunning, Retired, State-Federal Issues Program Manager, Alaska Depart-ment of Fish and Game and Sally Gibert, Retired State of Alaska ANILCA Program CoordinatorLocation: Marriott Hotel, Skagway/Valdez Room

Course description: In working with federal agencies in Alaska, miners need to understand the federal land laws that are unique to Alaska as these affect existing and proposed mines on a daily basis. This course will provide a condensed overview of Alaska land history and context leading up to passage of the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act (ANILCA), a roadmap to the full statute, and highlights of interest to miners in Alaska.

8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Short Course: Application of Airborne Geophysics to Minerals Exploration in AlaskaInstructors: Dr. Ken Witherly, Condor Consulting, Inc., Lakewood, CO

Abraham Emond, DGGS, Fairbanks, AK University Location: Marriott Hotel, Juneau Room

Course description: The State of Alaska has supported airborne geophysical surveys in the state for over 40 years. While the main focus of this workshop will be on the state-backed airborne EM and magnetics surveys, the USGS-supported aeromagnetics and gravity programs will also be discussed as they are in many ways complementary to the state’s program. The workshop includes a review of the theory behind the geophysical techniques used, discussion othe state program and how data can be accessed, examples of using these surveys for exploration in Alaska for minerals, environmental and geotechnical purposes, and case studies from Alaska and the Yukon where airborne geophysics has been used to help locate/define mineral deposits.
