Q: What is the purpose of an after school program?

A: Research shows that routine supervised study time improves student learning outcomes, particularly when students are supported by adults with knowledge of the curriculum demands of schools. Dual working parents are finding it increasingly difficult to assist with the study and homework demands of their children. Some families experience difficulty with transportation and supervision between the hours of 3:30pm and 7:30pm.

Q: What is the cost of the Program?

A: $65 per afternoon billed to parents each term in advance.

Q: How will the After-School Study Program be staffed?

A: The Program will be overseen by a member of the College teaching staff. Study Supervisors will be a mix of university students, College Old Boys, teachers and other College staff.

Q: Where does the After-School Study Program take place?

A: Level 3, Vaughan Wing, Senior Campus (the current English Classrooms)

Q: Will my son need to attend every afternoon or every week?

A: Not every afternoon. You choose which days of the week he will attend but he must attend those days each week for the term. You will be invoiced for those days for the term and contacted if he is absent.

Q: How will the Program fit around my son’s co-curricula commitments?

A: Sometimes students have sport training or other co-curricula commitments until 5:00pm. You can still book your son in to attend the After-School Study Program after their co-curricula commitment has finished. Those students are able to join the Program at 5:15pm during the snack break and then participate for the remainder of the Program until 7:30pm. Please note, that even if joining part way through, you will still be invoiced for the full afternoon.

ReView Frequently Asked Questions

6 | I N F O R M A T I O N B O O K L E T 2 0 1 6

Q: Does this Program complement the current Faculty Tutorials?

A: Yes. The Program will not replace the free Faculty Tutorials which operate throughout the School mornings and afternoons. These will continue to be offered to students as a free service and are more subject specific.

Q: Can my son attend the program after a Private tutorial or a Faculty Tutorial?

A: Yes. Just like sport training or other co-curricula activity, he can join the Program from 5:15pm.

Q: Will the College facilitate transport home?

A: No. We ask parents to make all arrangements to collect their sons at the end of the Program between 7:20pm and 7:30pm. You will be asked to provide the details of the person who will be collecting your son.

Q: Can parents arrange car-pooling for pick up?

A: Yes. We would encourage parents to use efficient means to collect their sons from the program. Upon application, we will ask for the details of the person expected to transport your son from the College of an evening.

Q: Does my son need to wear uniform to the Program?

A: Yes. He will usually be in uniform anyway. If he is joining the Program after sport training or co-curricula, then he is allowed to attend the Program in his training attire.

Q: Am I able to pick up my son early?

A: Yes. There will be times when you may have to collect him early. Simply provide your son with a note outlining the time you would like him to meet you at the Archways for collection. Please note that you will still be invoiced the full cost of the Program for that afternoon.

Frequently Asked Questions

I N F O R M A T I O N B O O K L E T 2 0 1 6 | 7

Q: What if my son does not behave appropriately?

A: The behaviour code is in line with normal College expectations. Students who breach the College Code of Conduct will be asked not to return to the Program.

Q: Will my son ever be allowed to work in a group or pair situation?

A: There will be times when students ask to work in small groups because they have a group task to complete for assessment. This will be allowed at the discretion of the tutor/teacher in charge at the time.

Q: How do I notify the College if my son is sick or has an appointment or otherwise

will not be attending?

A: Please send questions and information to: [email protected].

Q: What happens if my son is unable to attend the Program on a particular

afternoon because he is required to attend another College function or event?

A: Where your son is required to attend another College function or event, then attendance at that function or event will take precedence over ReView. In such instances, you will not be billed (or if already billed, will receive a refund) for the Program afternoon not attended in these circumstances. Please notify via [email protected]

Q: What happens if a Public Holiday falls on my son's After-School Study Program

day?

A: The Program will not operate on a non-school day and you will not be billed for that afternoon. The invoice for the term will take account of any public holidays, staff days or travel days falling within the term.

Q: Can the College Refectory cater for individual dietary needs?

A: Yes. Upon application, you will be asked for these details.

Frequently Asked Questions

8 | I N F O R M A T I O N B O O K L E T 2 0 1 6

Q: Will the After School Study Program staff be measuring learning gain or assessing

students in any way?

A: No, the Program will not operate its own assessments of students. As a learning organisation, the College is always interested in how our students learn and what factors contribute to their growth. For this reason, we will be tracking student learning to evaluate the effectiveness of the Program, but the Program itself will not conduct separate assessment. Students will be provided with a simple grade to indicate their engagement with the Program, should parents require such information.
