Thank Yous

• In June, eight-year old Reuben Braun-Schaus brought his savings into the library in Maplewood to donate to the Friends. His gift will be used for something needed at that library. Thank you, Reuben!

• Thank you to the board of directors of the Lillian Wright and C. Emil Berglund Foundation for their donation of $2,000 in honor of Paula Mielke’s service to the Foundation. This gift will be used to enhance resources in the Children’s Area at the library in Roseville.

Save the Date: Friends Annual Gala

We are pleased to announce that the theme of our 2016 Friends Annual Gala will be Spies, Lies & Literature. Get ready to get your James Bond on next February as we celebrate the genre of spy thrillers.

The Gala will again be a costume ball with opportunities to get creative. Gala goers aiming for an elegant espionage feel can dress as secret agents from all kinds of authors' work - from Ludlum and Larsson to LeCarre. Femme fatales and daring women can be found in fi ction such as Cathy East Dubowski's Mrs. Smith or nonfi ction about the work of Julia Child, Josephine Baker, Mata Hari and Marlene Dietrich. For a lighter twist, think Austin Powers, Harriet the Spy or even Boris and Natasha of cartoon fame. The genre is so rich with heroes and villains we can't wait to see what you come up with.

The Friends Annual Gala: Spies, Lies & Literature will take place at the library in Roseville on Saturday, February 6, 2016. If you have questions or are interested in sponsoring, please contact Sue Gehrz, Executive Director at 651-486-2213 or [email protected].

Reading Friends Volunteer Opportunity

Does turning the calendar to September or the sight of a bright yellow school bus make you wish you could go back to school, too? You can - at least for a bit - and help a child at the same time.

The Friends of the Ramsey County Libraries is seeking volunteers to become Reading Friends in the New Brighton area during the 2015-2016 school year.

Reading Friends visit our community partner sites to serve neighborhood children who often do not have frequent opportunities to visit the libraries. Volunteers typically work with K-5 children after school either one-on-one or in small groups.

This wonderful program helps reinforce literacy skills, build self-esteem and promote a love of reading in children. Training is provided and your level of commitment is fl exible.

Requirements are membership in the Friends of the Ramsey County Libraries and a free and confi dential background check. For more information about the program, the volunteer schedule and the volunteer application process, please contact Caitlin Carroll at 651-486-2263 or [email protected].

Book Store Volunteers Needed

Volunteers are needed to help stock the Bookstore shelves, pack and label boxes for the next sale. Call the Friends Offi ce at 651-486-2213 for more information or to volunteer.

White Bear Lake Campaign Reaches Goal

Thanks to the many people, businesses, foundations and organizations that have made tax deductible donations to the Capital Campaign, we have reached our goal of raising $200,000! That enabled us to add features including a fi replace, sliding glass room divider, interactive children’s equipment, art, technology, furnishings, an outdoor patio and garden, and additions to the lending collection.

Our work there is not done yet and we can put additional donations to good use. The Capital Campaign will be open through December 31 and we greatly appreciate donations of any amount. Donations can be sent to the Friends of the Ramsey County Libraries, 4570 N. Victoria Street, Shoreview, MN 55126 or made online at www.rclfriends.org.

Mark Your Calendars: Give to the Max Day!

November 12, 2015 is the date for the GiveMN online donation campaign. Although you can make online donations to

the Friends throughout the year, we hope you will include us if you are participating in this fall campaign.

GiveMN links generous people like you with organizations working to make Minnesota a better place by making giving simple, rewarding and fun.
