Terms And Conditions Of Sale

1. All persons attending the sale under the conduct of the Auctioneers shall be deemed to be on the land and premises entirely at their own risk and shall have no claim against the Auctioneers in respect of cancellation/postponement of a sale or any loss, accident or injury, however occasioned.

2. All bids made should be treated as offers made upon these conditions of sale and all persons present are admitted to attend a sale on the basis that they have notice of these conditions. All persons intending to bid must register at the registration desk before the sale starts.

Cheques in excess of recognised limits will not be accepted from Buyers unknown to the Auctioneers, unless prior arrangements have been made with them, or Bank or other suitable references have been supplied. Non-compliance with this condition may delay the release of lots pending the clearance of cheques.

7. The Auctioneers will at the request of the Buyer store larger items at their premises at the Buyer’s risk. Items can be collected by prior arrangement.

8. The Auctioneers will execute commission bids, written or telephoned, free of charge. Postal bidders should use the form at the back of this catalogue. Commission bids will be executed as cheaply as possible having regard to any reserve and other postal bids or bids in the room. The auctioneers shall not, however, be responsible for any neglect or default in executing or failing to execute any commission bid.

Subject to condition 12, (a) Lots are sold with all faults and imperfections and neither the Seller nor the Auctioneer is responsible for any defects whatsoever; (b) no warranty is given or authorised to be given by the Seller or the Auctioneer with regard to any Lot other than that the Seller had the right to sell it; (c) any express or implied conditions or warranties, whether relating to description or quality, are hereby excluded.

12. Notwithstanding Conditions 9, 10 and 11, if the Auctioneers receive notice in writing from the Buyer within

MAIN AUCTION The main Auction will be in the Exhibition Hall and viewing will be from 7.30 a.m. The sale will start at 10.30 a.m. There will be a lunch break at Lot 300 for 30 minutes. Car parking on the site is restricted but there are a number of car parks within a short walking distance of the Centre.

ALPHA LOTS There will be a large Alpha lot section on the day. This will be held in the Viewing Room at the Crewe North Signal Box. Viewing for this sale will be from 8.00 a.m. till 11.00 a.m. Bids to be in by 11.00 a.m.

Lots will be sold to the highest bidder as determined by the Auctioneers on receipt of the special “Alpha Lot Bidding Slips” handed in by 11.00 a.m. on the day. The results of this Auction will be available at 2.00 p.m. and an announcement will be made in the Main Hall. All lots must be removed by 3.30 p.m. unless prior arrangements are made. We regret that Alpha lots are not available to poster bidders.

BUYERS PREMIUM Please note there is a 10% Buyers Premium to be added to the Hammer Price in the main auction and the highest bid price in the Alpha Lot Auction.

FREE BUS There will be a Free Vintage Routemaster Bus running to and from Crewe Railway Station and the Heritage Centre starting from 7.40am approx every 20 minutes for the duration of the day. The bus will break for lunch approx 40 mins at 12.40 to 1.10.

REFRESHMENTS There will be Homemade refreshments available all day in the North Signal Box.

CAR PARKING The parking at the Heritage Centre will be for Staff and trade stands only on the day. There is parking within 5 minutes walk ofthe event at:

• Christ Church East and West Pay & Display and Oak Street Pay and Display. Fees: 2–4 hours £2.10. 4–10 hours £2.90

• All Day Undercover Car Park Civic Centre between Christ Church Car Parks and the Police Station. Fee: All Day £2.90

Enclosed is a Heritage Leaflet with a detailed map on the back including all Car Parks.

Please note: Tesco, Dunelm/MFI allow 3 hours parking for ‘Customers only’ and are checked regularly, so parking here is at your own risk.

1 A Southern Railway double sided enamel direction sign “SOUTHERN RAILWAY STATION” in Sunshine lettering with feathered arrow. \some minor edge chipping otherwise in superb condition. Size 20” x 15”.

2 A North Eastern Railway McKenzie & Holland pattern large signal finial, cast iron base with zinc top. In very good restored condition.

3 A cast iron shedplate “71F” Ryde Isle Of Wight 1950 to September 1954. The plate would appear to be in ex loco condition with a clear “BR(S)” Eastleigh triangle to the rear. A Scarce plate!

4 A cast iron wagonplate London Brighton & South Coast Railway “LBSC 8 Tons 3631”. In very good restored condition.

5 A London & North Eastern Railway lamp tablet “ST. BOSWELLS” f/f, rectangular in shape, brown on cream with a couple of face chips otherwise in excellent condition. A location on the Waverley route. Size 16” x 5”.

6 A chromed, brass diesel worksplate “English Electric Company Ltd London no.2813/D528 1960 The Vulcan Foundry Ltd Locomotive Works England”. New as D291 to Crewe then Camden, Longsight and Edge Hill. Re-numbered 40 091 in Feb 1974. The loco was withdrawn in Sept 1984 at Neville Hill and moved to Crewe Works in Nov 1984 and cut up at Hamptons Stoke on Trent in December 1988 at the works. Note this was the last Class 40 to be cut up. The plate is in very good ex loco condition.

7 A GWR official Jigsaw “THE STREAMLINED WAY” depicting GWR Railcar No.4 with ghost outline of King Class locomotive. Complete with box and made up on a board to view.

8 A framed & glazed carriage print “DEGANWY, CAERNARVONSHIRE” by Montague Black from the LMR series. In very good condition with original type frame.

9 A (Midland Railway) wood with cast iron base small pattern signal finial, as used on shunting signals. A Scarce Finial!

10 A BR alloy lion & wheel emblem as fitted to WCML Class 81 to 86 Electric Locomotives in superb ex loco condition.

11 An enamel advertisement sign “AGENT FOR PHILIP’S FINE TEA” double sided with wall fixing flange, white on green with some face chipping and minor edge rusting, otherwise good deep colour & shine. Size 17” x 12”.

12 A cast iron locomotive tenderplate “M 7038 – 1950” ex Ivatt 2-6-0 46 495 new Darlington Jan 1950 to Kettering, then Derby, Nuneaton and then Crewe South. Withdrawn October 1966 and cut up at Cohen’s Kettering 1967. The plate is in ex loco condition.

13 A cast iron locomotive shedplate “5B” Crewe South 1948 to November 1967. The plate is in ex loco condition.

14 An LMS (LNWR pattern) platform wall lamp with original paper name label “KIRKBY STEPHEN WEST” and complete with burner, reservoir and reflector. The lamp is in good unrestored condition. A location on the Settle & Carlisle route.

15 A BR(M) totem “DEGANWY” f/f. A couple of face & edge repairs & some minor scratching otherwise good deep colour & shine. This Station serves the small town which is located on the branch line from Llandudno Junction (on the North Wales Coast Line from Crewe to Holyhead) to Llandudno.

16 A Midland Railway pegging block instrument, ivorine plated “DOWN FAST BLOCK KETTERING STATION”. In very good ex box condition.

17 A Great Western Railway steel, key token with engraved brass plate “LLANBRYNMAIR – CEMMES ROAD” a Cambrian line location. In unrestored ex box condition.

18 A Great Western Railway brass pressure gauge with silvered face engraved “GWR”, the brass case is also stamped “GWR” and dated “23/10/26”. In good ex loco condition.

19 A cast iron sign (Great Western Railway) from one of the companies Steam Rail Motors in the style of the 1909 Cab Notice “CAUTION DO NOT LEAN OUT OR STAND ON STEP OF THIS CAR WHEN NEAR BRIDGES, TUNNELS, LOADGAUGES OR COALSTAGES”. In unrestored condition. A Scarce Sign! See also Lot 326.

20 A mounted coat of arms transfer “GLYN VALLEY TRAMWAY”. GVT in gilt within a decorative red garter on an olive green background, size 18” x 15”. This Narrow Gauge Railway ran from Chirk Station (on the GWR Shrewsbury to Wrexham line) to Glynceiriog, passenger services ceased on 6th April 1933 with complete closure in 1935. A Scarce C.O.A.!

21 A BR(M) enamel sign fully flanged “BRITISH RAILWAYS (in totem) NO SMOKING”. A couple of minor face chips repaired otherwise excellent colour & shine. Size 24” x 12”.

22 A BR(W) (GWR pattern) locomotive head lamp, the front clearly embossed “BR(W)”. The lamp is complete, and in good ex loco condition.

23 A smokebox plate “3679” ex 0-6-0 GWR Pannier Tank new Swindon July 1940 to Swansea East Dock then Dannygraig then to Southern Region at Wadebridge & Exmouth Junction. It was withdrawn in March 1963 and cut up in June 1964 at Cashmore’s, Newport. The plate is in face restored some time ago condition.

24 A collection of three LMS/BR Bakelite cased signal box shelf repeaters “HOME SIGNAL”, “DISTANT SIGNAL” and “ARM & SLOT ON-SLOT OFF”. All three are in excellent ex box condition.

25 A BR(Sc) enamel station direction sign “BRITISH RAILWAYS (in totem) HILLINGTON WEST STATION” with left facing arrow. Some repaired edge chips and some mottling, size 28” x 13”.

25A A BR(M) enamel fishtail cap badge EXCESS LUGGAGE”. In very good condition. A Scarce Badge!

26 A brass locomotive worksplate “SIR W.G. ARMSTRONG WHITWORTH & Co. ENGINEER’S LTD No.1255 – 1935 SCOTSWOOD WORKS NEWCASTLE-ON-TYNE” ex LMS Black 5, new as 5214 in Nov 1935, renumbered 45 214 in 1948 at Fleetwood 1948, then to Scotland. Sheds include Eastfield, Perth, St. Rollox and finally Sterling. It was withdrawn in December 1966 at Kingmoor and was cut up at M.C. Williams Shettleston April 1967. The plate is in face restored only condition with two corners repaired.

27 An alloy key token “ABERCYNON – BLACK LION” from the section on the Taff Vale line from Abercynon to Merthyr High Street. In ex box condition.

28 A metal painted coat of arms “CITY OF LIVERPOOL” from one of the Cities Tram Cars. In good ex service condition.

29 A Great Central Railway viaduct arch plate “GCR 374 (97)” from the Viaduct just north of Leicester Central Station. In face restored condition.

30 A small wooden double sided carriage board “GLOUCESTER” on one side and “BRISTOL” on the other side. In maroon & straw, size 32” x 3 ¼”, in good ex service condition.

31 A Pictorial enamel advertisement sign “ST. JULIEN TOBACCO” in yellow/red on dark blue background with a picture of a packet of Ogden’s St. Julien to the centre. Some edge and screw hole chips with one small face chip, otherwise good deep colour & shine. Size 24” x 6”.

32 An alloy key token “FROME NORTH – MELLS ROAD”. A section of the GWR line between Frome and Radstock. The key is in ex box condition.

33 A cast iron shedplate “33C” Shoeburyness, 1950 to June 1962. The plate is in totally ex loco condition.

34 A BR(M) double royal poster “BUXTON” by Ronald A Maddox. In good rolled condition.

35 A BR(M) totem “RUGELEY TRENT VALLEY” f/f. Some edge chipping & rusting and minor face scratches otherwise in good condition.

35A An LMS enamelled presentation Teaspoon marked “LMS BOWLING CLUB RUGBY” with coat of arms to centre. In good condition.

36 A Great Western Railway brass cased Tyers, shelf mounted Lower Quadrant Semaphore Distant signal repeater. The inside retains its Tyer & Co. test label dated 14/6/39. In good ex box condition.

37 An early alloy Street sign “RAILWAY STREET”. In very good condition.

38 An LMS Stanier Hooter with large Swan Neck valve. These were only fitted to stream lined, Coronation Class Pacific’s and is a Scarce survivor. In good polished condition and mounted on a wooden plinth.

39 A (Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway) “BEWARE OF TRAINS” in unrestored condition

40 A smokebox plate “47662” ex LMS 0-6-0 Jinty Tank new as LMS 16745 March 1929 Beardmore works No.410, renumbered to LMS 7662 during 1934 period and renumbered to 47662 in April 1948. Withdrawn in Jan 1966 and cut up April 1966. Shed allocations include 1948 Alsager, 1955 Crewe South, 1959 Barrow, 1963 Lancaster and 1966 Patricroft. The plate is in ex loco condition.

41 An enamel sign “LMS CAR PARK” black on yellow, double sided with some chipping and edge rusting otherwise in good condition. Size 41 ¾” x 6”.

42 A BR(E) (LNER pattern) handlamp brass plated “LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY DONCASTER MIN”. In good unrestored condition.

43 A cast iron shedplate “62C” Dunfermline, 1952 to May 1967. The plate is in ex loco condition.

44 A (London & North Western Railway) cast iron signalbox backboard plate “FROM ST. HELEN’S”. In good ex box condition.

45 A BR(M) enamel doorplate “TICKETS” f/f with minor edge chipping, rusting etc otherwise in very good condition with good deep colour & shine. Size 18” x 4” flange ¾”.

46 A brass Locomotive worksplate “LMS BUILT DERBY” in totally ex loco condition, the back is marked ‘Ex 41835’. In unrestored condition.

47 A Webb & Thompson large Electric Train Staff “GWINEER ROAD WEST – NANCEGOLLAN CROSSING PLACE” in restored some time ago condition.

48 A BR 1950s Bakelite block instrument known as a’ Penguin Block’. In very good ex box condition.

49 A cast iron signal gantry plate “SAXBY & FARMER LIMITED PATENTEES LONDON W.” with coat of arms. In good unrestored condition. Size 7” x 9 ¾”.

50 A GWR brass cabside “1665” ex 0-6-0 PT built Swindon April 1955 new Llanelly and stayed there all its life until July 1964 when withdrawn and cut up in Oct 1964 at Birds of Morriston, Swansea. The plate is in superb ex loco condition as taken off the engine!

50A A Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway, oval Horse brass clearly engraved “LYR”. In good condition.

51 An early London Tube Stock double sided, destination plate “EUSTON” with “WILLESDEN” on the reverse side. Size 28 ¼” x 4”, white enamel on black with some edge rusting, chipping etc, otherwise in good condition.

52 A Midland Railway handlamp brass plated “MIDLAND RAILWAY” top and bottom and also “W RIGBY CARNFORTH”. The lamp is also clearly stamped “MR Co.” and is in restored condition.

53 A cast iron shedplate “15E” Leicester, Great Central February 1958 to September 1963. The plate is in face restored some time ago condition.

54 A framed & glazed “MIDLAND RAILWAY Time Table of Trains To And From Heysham, Morecambe And Lancaster April, May And June 1910”. The bottom is marked “Morecambe Is The Cheapest And Most Convenient Centre For Tourists Desiring To Visit the Lake District”. In good condition, size 25” x 31”.

55 A BR(M) enamel doorplate “PARCELS” f/f with some chipping & minor rusting otherwise good deep colour & shine. Size 18” x 3 ½”.

56 A London & North Western Railway Fletchers signal Repeater with miniature signal and In-Out indicator. In very good condition.

57 An alloy road sign “CROSSING NO GATES” with 0-6-0 Steam Engine and maker’s name “Branco signs Ltd”. The front has been restored, the back is unrestored with clear post mark.

58 A framed & glazed carriage print “Travel in 1910 Coniston Steam Motor Train Furness Railway” by C. Hamilton-Ellis. In original type frame in good condition.

59 A Caledonian Railway Stevens pattern cast iron signal finial in good restored condition.

60 A smokebox plate “42323” ex LMS Fowler 2-6-4 Tank, new Derby 1928 as 2323 renumbered to 42323 in Aug 1949. Sheds include Macclesfield & stoke, withdrawn June 1962 and cut up April 1963. The plate is in face restored condition.

61 An enamel advertisement sign “LONDON PARCELS DELIVERY Co.” white on blue with red surround. Some minor face chipping etc, otherwise in good condition. Size 14” x 21”.

62 A London & North Western Railway copper locomotive gauge glass lamp with original reservoir, and clearly stamped “LNWR” on the top and the side of the lamp. In superb condition.

63 A Midland Railway Edmondson station ticket dater with embossed “MIDLAND RAILWAY Co.” brass plate to the top. In good ex station condition together with a box of type.

64 A framed & glazed timetable for the “Lancaster and Carlisle Railway” October 1854. This gives details of timetable as well as market day Trains and Coaches etc. Size 17 ½” x 15 ½”. A Very Rare Survivor Indeed!

65 An LNER enamel Horse Shoe lamp tablet “WHITE COLNE” black on white, double sided with some edge rusting otherwise in good condition. A station on the former Colne Valley & Halstead line in Essex.

66 A brass locomotive 9” x 5” worksplate “LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY 61269 N.B. LOCO Co. 1947” ex LNER b1 Class 4-6-0 built North British Dec 1947. Sheds include Lincoln, Colwick, Agecroft and Northwich, withdrawn December 1963 and cut up January 1965. The plate is in very good face restored only condition.

67 A wooden station fingerboard “GT HARWOOD, SIMONSTONE, PADIHAM, BURNLEY, NELSON AND COLNE” double sided, in ex station condition.

68 A London & South Western Railway signalbox Telephone complete with enamel plates “TO EXCHANGE”, “CHALLENGE BEFORE CALLING” & “CODE RINGING” with separate ear pieces. In very good condition.

69 A cast iron sign “CAMBRIAN RAILWAYS NOTICE ANY PERSONS FOUND TRESPASSING ON THIS RAILWAY WILL BE PROSECUTED BY ORDER”. In totally unrestored condition.

70 A Southern Railway station target sign “REDBRIDGE” with some face repaired edge & face chipping otherwise a good example. This still retains its wooden backing.

71 A collection of Hornby ‘O’ Gauge Engines & Rolling Stock including 4-4-2 Tank LNER 1784, two No. 50 0-4-0 Tank Engines, nine assorted wagons, a station & Bridge.

72 A Midland Railway General Purpose hand lamp brass plated “MIDLAND RAILWAY Co.” on the top, with the reservoir plated “MIDLAND RAILWAY FOR PETROLEUM ONLY”. In restored condition.

73 A Manchester South Junction & Altrincham Railway wooden with cast iron letters seat back “KNOTT MILL”. In good restored condition.

74 A collection of four cast iron ‘D’ plates: “SR STANDARD 13 TONS 5563”, “GW Ry STANDARD 12 TONS 36776”, LMS STANDARD 12 TONS 608798” & “LNER 12 TONS 1940 DARLINGTON 241080”. All four are nicely restored and would make a nice collection together.

75 A brass locomotive worksplate “ANDREW BARCLAY SONS & Co. LIMITED CALEDONIA WORKS KILMARNOCK No.2037 – 1937” from a standard gauge 0-4-0 Crane Tank, new to Stanton Ironworks Co. Ltd as their Stanton No.34 where it was used for loading barges on the Erewash canal. It worked at Stanton Ironworks all its life except for a short period in 1957 when on loan to Riddings Foundry. It was scrapped sometime around 1963. In face restored only condition. Size 16 ¾” x 11 ¾”.

75A A North British Railway enamel armband, red on white marked “NBR FLAGMAN”. In good condition.

76 A Great Western Railway double line Spagnoletti block instrument in very good ex box condition.

77 A brass single line key token “LLANDRINDOD WELLS – CRAVEN ARMS”. A Central Wales line location. In ex box condition.

78 A Metropolitan Railway brass, carriage door lock “LIVE IN METROLAND”. These were used on the companie’s suburban coaches, which worked out of Baker Street. The lock is in lovely polished condition and the back is clearly stamped “METRO RLY”.

79 A Cheshire Lines Railway Bridgeplate “CLRy 169”. The plate is in unrestored condition.

80 An LMS wooden with cast iron letters, signalbox nameboard “WILLESDEN NEW STATION”. The board is in unrestored ex box condition. Size 104 ¼” x 10 ¼”.

81 A BR(M) enamel posterboard header “BUS SERVICES” with a small screw hole chip otherwise excellent condition. Size 25 ¼” x 5 ¾”.

82 A London & North Eastern Railway 3 ½” gauge Model of a teak bodied Guards & Luggage Van No. 4141. A superb detailed model 48” in length.

83 A cast iron shedplate “24G” Skipton, Feb 1957 to Sept 1963. The plate is in face restored some time ago condition, the back is in ex loco condition.

84 An LNER Double Royal poster “MONTROSE SEA BATHING, GOLF, TENNIS, EXPRESS VIA FORTH AND TAY BRIDGES” by Austin Cooper. The poster has been mounted in linen to conserve it, otherwise in good condition.

85 A BR(Sc) totem “ELLON” f/f with minor edge chipping touched in, good deep colour & shine. Situated on the Great North of Scotland Railway Line from Aberdeen to Maud Junction. The line closed in 1965.

86 An alloy diesel worksplate “BRITISH RAILWAYS CREWE BUILT 1966 POWER EQUIPMENT BY BRUSH ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING COMPANY LTD AND SULZER”. This is a builder’s plate off a Brush type Class 47 Crewe 1966. In very good, ex loco condition.

87 A Southern Railway enamel Warning sign re the dangers of propping open wagon doors etc, black on white, dated “Waterloo Station 1925”. Some screw hole chips otherwise good colour & shine. Size 11 ¾” x 17 ¾”.

88 A Bassett – Lowke special limited release ‘O’ Gauge Electric Rebuilt Scot Class Locomotive “ROYAL SCOT” 46100. In BR green, in very good boxed condition.

89 A Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway pattern cast iron signal finial in good unrestored condition.

90 A smokebox plate “44215” ex fowler 0-6-0 4f Class Locomotive new Derby December 1925, renumbered to 44215 in December 1950, allocated to the Nottingham area 1948 – 1965. Withdrawn February 1965 and cut up in the May. The plate is in ex loco condition.

The board is in totally unrestored, ex loco condition.

141 A Southern Railway enamel posterboard heading “SR SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS” white on blue with some edge & face chipping otherwise good deep colour & shine. Size 27” x 5 ½”.

142 A brass Pullman Car table lamp, the base is numbered “TC99” Third Class Car 99. The Coach started out as Padua in 1920 and was converted in 1946/47 (the era of the lamp), the carriage was used in the Bournemouth Belle and was withdrawn in 1960 and is now preserved at the Pullman Lodge Hotel, Seaburn. The lamp has been rewired with new wiring which is in the period style flex and has been PAT Tested for immediate use.

166 A chromed brass diesel worksplate “ENGLISH ELECTRIC COMPANY LTD LONDON No. 3264/8379 – 1963 ROBERT STEPHENSON & HAWTHORNS LTD LOCOMOTIVE WORKS ENGLAND” new as D6819 to Cardiff Cathay’s first Class 37 to be allocated to the Western Region. It was also the first Class 37 to have central indicator box (not split type), renumbered to 37 283 in Feb 1974 (this number should have gone to D6983 which was first Class 37 to be scrapped) later rebuilt as Class 37 heavyweight 37 895, other depots include York, most ER depots then Toton. Selected for work in Italy and moved July 2001 but was back in the U.K. by Feb 2003, it spent the next 3 years in and out of store mainly used for Sandite duties before being withdrawn April 2006, kept for spares etc until cut up Sept 2011 by European Metals, Kingsbury. The plate is in very good ex loco condition.

216 An alloy nameplate “RICHARD TREVITHICK” as carried by 56037. It was named in July1981 and removed in August 1997. 56037 was built by BREL Doncaaster in January 1978 and withdrawn in September 2003.In ex loco condition.  

217 An alloy nameplate “FRACHTVERBINDUNGEN” as carried by 90129. Named in September 1992as part of recognition of Freightconnection in Germany – to mark the relationship between BR, SNVF, SNCB and DB. Initially the plates were spelt incorrectly the wrong letters were ground of and replacement letters stuck on until new plates, this plate was cast. Plate removed in April 2003. 90129 originally numbered 90029 was built by BREL Crewe in April 1989 still in service. In ex loco condition. Size 81 ¾” x 8”.

218 An alloy nameplate “BEN MORE ASSYNT” as carried by 60099. Named in December 1992 after a Mountain in the Highland Region near Loch Assynt. Name removed February 2010, 60099 was built by Brush Loughborough as works number 1001 and introduced in December 1992 and is still operational. Size 65 ¾” x 9 ¾”.

219 An alloy nameplate “MARY QUEEN OF SCOTS” as carried by 37401. Named in November 1995 to celebrate the birth Linlithgow’s most celebrated person and the refurbishment of the station. Removed in February 2001. Loco built by English Electric Vulcan Foundry works number 3528/D957 in February 1965. Withdrawn in December 2010 and still in service with DRS. Probably one of the most photographed Locomotives following its use on the West Highland line, a real celebrity. Size 72 ¾” x 9 ¾”.

220 An alloy nameplate “RESTIVE” as carried by locomotive 47475. Named in August 1993 removed in March 1999.Named as a locomotive dedicated to the RES fleet. 47475 was built by BR Crewe in July 1964 withdrawn in July 1999 and cut up in March 2008 by T J Thompson, Stockton-on –Tees.

221 An alloy nameplate “SPECIAL DELIVERY” as carried by 67002. Named as part of Twinning of Class 67 with Royal Mail’s ‘Special Delivery’ service. Unveiled at start of August 2000 open day at Old Oak Common. New plates cast mid 2002 following collision damage repairs. 67002 was built by GM-EMD/Alstom, Spain as works number 968742-02 and delivered in February 2000. Size 29 ½” x 11 ¾”.

222 An alloy nameplate “STRATHCLYDE” as carried by 47818. Named in September 2000 and removed in March 2003. Named to reflect a Scottish theme for one of the locos for the Glasgow to Edinburgh route. Locomotive 47818 was built by Brush Traction as lot number 679 in December 1965 and is still in use with DRS. Size 39 ½” x 9 ¾”.

223 An alloy nameplate “MOEL SIABOD” as carried by 60018. Named in March 1990 after a Mountain in Cambrian Range near Bettws-y-Coed. Name removed in May 1997. 60018 was built by Brush Loughborough as works number 920 in September 1990 withdrawn in May 2009 and stored in Toton Old Bank Yard. Size 51 ¾” x 9 ¾”.

Named in April 1986 and transferred in February 1994 removed in March 2011, Welsh for Barmouth Bridge. 37402 was built by EE Vulcan Foundry works number 3524/D963 in April 1965 withdrawn in September 2007 and now owned by DRS to provide spares. Size 51 ½” x 9 ¾”.

228 An alloy nameplate “SIR DYFED COUNTY OF DYFED” as carried by 37886. Named in April 2001 and removed in March 2007, 37886 was built by EE Robert Stephenson & Hawthorns as works number 3358/8401 in October 1963 withdrawn in September 2007 and cut up by EMS. Kingsbury in September 2011.

It was named Saint Aidan at Sheffield station on 25th Sept 1995. The nameplates were removed in July 1997. Other allocations were Landore, Bristol Old Oak Common, Crewe, and Bescot. Withdrawn Feb 1999 and sent to Old Oak Common for spares, the body sold to H Needle, the remains cut up at there in April 2004. The plate is in ex loco condition.

Allocations include Preston, Edge Hill and Newton Heath, withdrawn Bolton June 1962 and cut up at Crewe Works Aug 1962. The plate is in basically ex loco condition.

300A A brass smokebox plate “71000” as carried by Duke of Gloucester during its early preservation years. This plate is being sold today with 50% of the Hammer Price being donated to The Locomotive overhaul fund.

301 An alloy diesel nameplate “SELBY COALFIELD” ex Class 56, built BREL Doncaster works July 1980 new to Tinsley then Thornaby, Gateshead, Immingham and Toton. It was named Selby Coalfield at Gascolgne Wood Drift Mine on October 30th 1989, stored until April 1999 and was withdrawn in June 2000. The loco was part cut up at Wigna then moved about until cut up December 2003 by Raxstar at Cathay’s (Cardiff). The plate is in very good ex loco condition and comes with its original paperwork.

302 A cast iron wagonplate, diamond shaped “THE WIGAN WAGON Co. LIMITED BUILDERS WIGAN 1927”. The plate is in unrestored, rusty condition and is a scarce wagonplate.

321 A metal station totem sign “SOUTHERN” with raised lettering and beading. In ex station condition, these signs were used in the 1930s when a number of stations were rebuilt in the then Art Deco style. Approx 6ft long, a remarkable survivor of which has not been seen at auction before.

325 A BR(W) totem “WREXHAM EXCHANGE” f/f. A repaired face chip to the bottom panel & some minor face scratching otherwise good colour & shine. Now platform 4 at Wrexham General, Wrexham Exchange was originally a separate railway station opened in May 1866 for the (W.M.C.Q.R.). By the time the W.M.C.Q.R. had been bought by the GCR the line was a through station connecting to the Cambrian Railways Wrexham Central Railway station. The station changed hands again in 1921 to the LNER as one of their few stations in Wales.

400 A smokebox plate “6828” ex GWR Collett Grange Class 4-6-0 Trellech Grange. New Swindon Feb 1937 to Llandore, other sheds include Stourbridge, Truro, Pantyfynnat and Oxley. Withdrawn in July 1963 and cut up at Swindon in Sept 1963. The plate has been fully restored some time ago.

400A A BR(E) Lion Over Wheel cap badge in brass “FOREMAN”. In very good condition.

401 An alloy nameplate with combined crest “THE TIMES” ex Class 86 Electric locomotive, new as E3200 VF 3492/E338 Feb 1966, final renumbering was 86 429 in March 1985. It was named “The Times” at Euston station on the 12th June 1985. Whilst hauling the 17.00 Euston – Manchester Piccadilly train on the 19th Sept 1986 it ran past signals at Colwich Junction and was hit sideways on by the 17.20 Liverpool Lime St to Euston train hauled by City Of Milton Keynes with both locos being very badly damaged and removed by road to Crewe Works, with both being withdrawn in October 1986 and cut up by Sept 1987. The plate is in ex loco condition and is believed to be the only surviving nameplate from this engine. See Lot 402.

477 An alloy nameplate “CWMBAGOED D.P.” as carried by 37898. Named in April 1993 to recognize the twinning of Railfreight with Cwmbargoed Disposal point. 37898 was built by English Electric Robert Stephenson & Hawthorns as works number 3364/8407 in November 1963 and withdrawn in March 2004.
