Celebs speak about world ethnic day

World Ethnic Day is a day to celebrate the cultures of different countries together.

World Ethnic Day envisages a world held together by its roots - a world that respects heritage, civilisation,

anthropology, art and culture.

On this occasion some Bollywood celebrities share their take on ethnic wear.

Vidya Balan, the official face of WED, is one modern actress who has always believed in

being ethnic and has celebrated the traditional Indian sari, be it in her films or real life. She firmly believes that Indian wear, whether it a

salwar-kameez, churidar or a sari, help celebrate femininity  and bring out the beauty in

women.

Sonakshi Sinha is another actress who has been very ethnic and traditional in her

choice of clothes. She has made appearances in traditional Indian wear both

on-screen and off-screen.“I have a broad frame, so keeping in mind

the final outcome,  I prefer to stick to ethnic clothes, as they suit me best. I believe fashion is all about comfort," she says.

Kirron Kher simply loves her rich silk saris and the antique jewellery that go

with it, that has always been her trademark on screen and in real life

too. According to Kirron, silk saris are not only elegant but one of the finest fabrics. Since the art of weaving is on the verge of being extinct, she feels

that actresses can make an impact, by wearing saris and promoting weavers.

Fashionista Sonam Kapoor oozes the same amount of elegance in  ethnic wear as she does with her western clothes.  “As Indians, we all love dressing, it’s part of our

culture, I guess we have the most elaborate accessories and

dressing styles," Sonam opines.

Among our Bollywood male celebrities, we have Govinda, who emulates his father, where ethnic dressing is concerned. He says,

“Nothing beats the comfort of a loose kurta pyjama, I have always seen my father lounging around in it, feeling so

relaxed and comfortable. In my film career, I had a lot of opportunity to experiment with my looks, and I’ve

learnt that the appeal of ethnic dressing has its own drool factor.”

 

Vivek Oberoi, is another star who is very fond of ethnic dressing, be it on screen or award functions, he is most comfortable in them.  He has this to say, “ For some reason men’s ethnic wear in India has been restricted to politicians and worn only for certain functions and festivals.  Personally, I love wearing kurtas to work or even outings, my wardrobe consists of as many kurtas, pyjamas and churidars as it does of pants, shirts & t-shirts. ”
