• Jot down all the questions you can think of that you ask in the lesson
• Be prepared to share with a partner

Creating Questions• Practice creating questions using only the Red and
Blue cubes
• Are they open ended? Or close ended?
Creating Questions• Practice using Red + Blue + Green
– Either use the green cube word in the question; OR
– Design your question to be that type of green action
With a partner…
1. Roll the 3 dice
2. Take turns creating open ended questions about any topic you choose
3. Tally how many you and your partner create before the timer goes off.
What kinds of questions do the kids ask?• Why is the sky blue?
– Open ended or complicated closed?
• Why do turtles have flippers and tortoises have toes?
– Open ended or closed?
• What would happen if I pulled the fire alarm?
– Open ended or found in the student code of conduct?
Teaching the kids to ask good ?s• Teach the icons on the cubes.
– Over time
– Practice, model, recognize, and reinforce

– Allow them to play with the cubes first
– Put them in centers or stations
– Only assess when you have observed 50% or more of the class being successful
