Methods and Instrumentation in Marine Geological Mapping at the Geological Survey of Norway (NGU

NGU, P.O. Box 3006, N-7001 Trondheim (Norway)
Marine geological mapping at NGU is based on single-channel reflection seismic, refraction seismic and sediment sampling. Combined with an auto- matic positioning system, these methods are integrated in a computer-aided production system for marine geological maps. The field instruments are oper- ated from NGU’s 55 ft. research vessel Seisma.
Quaternary Sediments in the Sykkylven Fjord, Western Norway

Based on reflection and refraction seismic profiling, a geological model for formation and distribution of Quaternary sediments in the Sykkylven fjord is proposed. The model is used in the planning process for building a bridge across the fjord.
Shallow Reflection Seismic Applied in the Studies of Onshore Quaternary Sediments

In a research project, financed by the Danish Technical Scientific Fund, the applicability of the reflection seismic method in the studies of onshore Qua- ternary sediments is investigated. The method seems to offer a better solution than other geophysical methods used today for mapping Quaternary deposits.
