INTRODUCTIONTCM Shishu Neer-Mirpur is a center for the children who are from marginalized community and their parents are garments worker, and for working women. This center established in late 2007. The goal of this project is to ensure a child friendly healthy environment for the children within family and community for psycho-social development of the community children. Through this project we try to ensure education up to a certain level for the marginalized and extremely poor children as well as raise literacy levels of adult and integrate children into mainstream education. Also the centre work for increasing living standard and give income generation training to adult. The objective of this project is to improve mental and physical health, wellbeing and reduce vulnerability of the children. In addition, our focal point is to increase awareness towards important health, social and environmental issues.

RE-CREATIVE EDUCATIONChildren from different age (4-12 years old) are studying at our school in four different academic classes such as Play, Play-1, Nursery and Class-I. Total 121 children (65 girls and 56 boys) have enrolled into the classes throughout the year and the number is above we targeted for the year 2016. The annual target was 80 children. 69 children (43 girls and 26 boys) are regular in the class. Allover attendance was 83% in this quarter. For certain reasons by end of this quarter total 52 children were dropped out and the major reason is floating trend of their family.

STUDENTS AT A GLANCE

SPECIAL DAY CELEBRATION / EVENTSChild Rights Week (29 September-05 October): To celebrate this week 5 children from TCM Shishu Neer Mirpur joined the Cultural Program on 03 October at Shishu Academy. We arranged a rally by our school children. 66 students marched through the road next to the school with poster.World Hand Wash Day (15 December): 63 children joined to celebrate the day. We tried give them practical knowledge on how to wash hand properly and also aware them hygienic issue.World AIDS Day (01 December): To celebrate the day we joined national level rally and seminar. In our center we arranged an awareness session with parents. Total 29 parents were present on that session. This year the slogan was “Avmyb H‡K¨i nvZ Zzwj: GBPAvBwf cÖwZ‡iva Kwi”.Victory Day (16 December): To celebrate the day we arranged a Drawing competition and cultural show by our school children. 62 students and some parents attended the program.

WALL MAGAZINEDuring the quarter children prepared a wall magazine on specific issues like “Victory Day”. Story, poem, drawings, monologues or any sort of reflection of mind initiated by the children for a unique presentation of wall magazine.

PARENTS MEETING AND AWARENESS SESSIONIn this quarter we have arranged 3 parents meeting. During this session we explain about final exam result, World AIDS Day (01 December), admission etc. We also shared the attendance of children, school timing, child nutrition, hygiene and clean environment and other relevant information that helps them to understand how well they can care for their children for the betterment of their future. We distributed final exam result on 22 December. 3 Parents meeting were arranged, total 48 parents were present on 30 November, 29 parents on 15 December and 31 parents on 22 December.

HEALTH SERVICEAll children receive regular health services at free of cost that supported by Smiling Sun Clinic (SSP) which is a concern of “Swanirvar Bangladesh” located in Shewrapara. A medical team from the SSP is regularly providing this health services including growth monitoring to the children every month through satellite clinic on every Monday from 10am - 2pm at the Shishu Neer. Average 69 school children monthly received health service in this quarter. Without this free medical service this medical team also gives advice to the parents for their better health and family planning with minimum charge. 36 mother, 20 adolescence girl and 40 children got vaccination in this quarter.

MUSIC CLASSA music teacher is conducting class on music in every Thursday beyond their regular academic class. It’s a one hour class where a number of students participate together. In this class children learn national anthem and other patriotic song.

BIRTH REGISTRATIONTotal 69 students have birth registration certificate and we are motivating other parents those who haven’t registered birth for their children yet.

ADULT LITERACY CLASSWe have started adult literacy classes on Every Sunday & Tuesday at 3:00pm. There are 4 students in adult literacy class. We followed Ahsania Mission’s non-formal education curriculum for this activities.

HOME VISIT In order to realize the nature of family and educational environment our shishu neer teachers regularly visit houses of school children. Also if any students are irregular in due course our teachers visit the student’s house to identify whether the student is sick or any else reason like family crisis and such that is preventing him or her attending the class. During this quarter the total number of visit was 29.

FINAL EXAM & RESULT DISTRIBUTIONThe project has been practicing the standard syllabus and course curriculum prepared though discussion with all team members of TCM Shishu Neer. The students have attended the final exam that took place during 07-14 December. 94% (69 out of 65) students have attended final exam. Result was published on December 22. All students who attended in to the exam were passed with good result.

RELIGIOUS CLASS A religious teacher is conducting class on religion in every Wednesday beyond their regular academic class. It’s a one hour class where a number of students participate together. In this class children learn some Surah, Kalema & rules regulation to pray Salat/Namaz perfectly.

STAFF MEETINGCenter supervisor is responsible to conduct monthly staff meeting. During the meeting they ensure that all staff are clear about their roles and responsibilities. They also reviewed the monthly performance by the center and discuss how to improve their quality of servie. There were three staff meeting take place this quarter dated on October 27, November 24 and December 29.
