Definition Data Quality

Definition: An error is defined as what in

subsequent processes

causes problems and refinishing operations.

When an error is immediately recognizedand corrected, the entire effort is smaller!

The quality of geometry created

with V5 is generally better than with V4!

Methodology is essential for working

with V5!

Q-Checker field of application:

HDE-D / 17.02.2011 / Q-Checker_Kursmodul.ppt 6

Benefit of the Q-Checker:

Q-Checker offers

•Support by the adherence to general, geometrical and structural rules.

•direct correction possibilities.

•Assistance for correction and errors.

HDE-D / 17.02.2011 / Q-Checker_Kursmodul.ppt 7

Example general Data Quality Check:Compliance of Construction Methodology

A good and uniform methodology provides an easy changing of the model.

Neglecting the methodology causes considerable extra work.

HDE-D / 17.02.2011 / Q-Checker_Kursmodul.ppt 8

Example methodical Data Check:Publishing elements

Result geometry has to be published in order to access it in a product. (MML)

The name of the publication has to be identical with the name of the original element. This helps to retrace the original element.

HDE-D / 17.02.2011 / Q-Checker_Kursmodul.ppt 9

Example methodical Data Check:Structure of CATPart Specification Tree

User model Reference model

The reference model with its underlying rules will be compared with the model to be checked. Divergences will be indicated.

Comparison

HDE-D / 17.02.2011 / Q-Checker_Kursmodul.ppt 10

Example general Check:Current Work Object is PartBody

The current work object is: The current work object is:

When the design of a construction is finished, before saving activate the respective PartBody or the last element of the PartBody. This ensures that the whole construction is visible.

Designflaechen #Final Part

HDE-D / 17.02.2011 / Q-Checker_Kursmodul.ppt 11

Example general Check:Unresolved Feature

Unresolved features interrupting the update. All following features will not be calculated. Clear the reason for the problem and patch it.

HDE-D / 17.02.2011 / Q-Checker_Kursmodul.ppt 12

Example Geometrical Check:Multi Volume Solid or Cavities

One CATPart,two Volumes

Multi Volume Solids are problematical for DMU and FEA-Analysis.

Cavity

Unmeant cavities could be problematical for FEA-Analysis.

HDE-D / 17.02.2011 / Q-Checker_Kursmodul.ppt 13

Example Geometrical Check:Folded Surface

Some CATIA features (fillet, offset, etc.) doesn‘t work if they are near a area with a folded surface. (neighboring normals exceed an angle of 90 degrees)

HDE-D / 17.02.2011 / Q-Checker_Kursmodul.ppt 14

Defect Classes / Model Assessment

The Model Assessment corresponds with the highest Error Class. The total error points are calculated as follows: Number of errors multiplied with the error points.

Not every error causes the same effort for the down streaming process. Therefore each criterion has a dedicated Error class. Error Classes:KO Criterion, Error, Warning

Error Classes and their Error Points:KO Criterion = 3, Error = 2, Warning = 1.

HDE-D / 17.02.2011 / Q-Checker_Kursmodul.ppt 15

Overview Error Classes for Kärcher

Error Classes: Assessment:l Red = KO Criterion (3) KOl Orange = Error (2) Errorl Blue = Warning (1) In Order (IO)

Further Error Classes: Assessment:l Green = In Order In Order (IO)¡ White = General Error Check was not executedl Black = Interrupt Condition Interrupt Condition Violated

HDE-D / 17.02.2011 / Q-Checker_Kursmodul.ppt 16

Interpretation Warning

Blue = Warning, Assessment = In OrderThis valuation means: Element must be checked and corrected if necessary.

Example:

Ø Deactivated Feature: Component can be deactivated consciously.

Ø Multi-Volume Solid [G-SO-MU]: Can arise from the part (bearing)

The error evaluation is within the authority of the designer. Criteria are usually covered with warnings which were taken newly whose injury have low effects on the process or which are not clear.
