The International Baccalaureate
The International Baccalaureate (IB) is an exciting set of educational programs offered in more than two thousand school schools in over 120 countries around the world. The programs focus on student-centred inquiry-based learning and global concerns. They challenge students to think in sophisticated ways about the connections between ideas in different areas of study. They put learning into an international context.
IB at King Faisal School
King Faisal School has been an IB World School since June 2008.
It offers the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP), IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) and IB Diploma Programme (DP)
The Primary School has been authorised to offer the IB Primary School since 2012.

Outdoors Learning As we are all aware, young learners are extremely curious and should be given the opportunity to explore the world beyond the classroom environment as an essential part of their learning experience. Outdoor learning is known as the use of different places other than the classroom for learning. Here in King Faisal School, we believe that young learners should experience the world around them and should be exposed to real-world inquiry where they can investigate their own interests. Learners become intensively involved in learning when they are provided with enjoyable, stimulating and relevant learning experience outside the classroom. Educators must ensure that these outdoors experiences are well organized, integrated with the unit of inquiry and safely managed. Throughout the school year, Grade 1B learners were effectively engaged and encouraged to experience outdoor activities such as,
☺ Nature Walk around the School. ☺ Zoo Field Trip. ☺ Science Lab. ☺ Road Race and Bicycle Race. ☺ PYP Inquiry Center.
Outdoors learning has a long-term impact on young learners. It builds their confidence, develops personal and social skills and reinforces conceptual learning.

Change for growth……..
As kids grow and explore, they’re sure to become curious about weather and to notice cold and warming air, in addition to other signs of the changing seasons.
Experiencing seasons with learners should be an exploration!
During the unit of inquiry” Where we are in place and time “many questions were asked to ascertain what learners might think about how the seasons of the year might occur and were exposed to a variety of activities that encouraged them to inquire about the features of each season.

After watching a slide show and reading different stories about the same topic, they were able to reflect and connect their findings through decorating each tree in relation to each season , conclude the similarities and differences among all and describe them through writing.
In closure, the poster which learners designed looked wonderful and magnificent revealing all the changes that might happen to the tree all through the four seasons of the year.
