Colossians 3:5-8 5 Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. 6 On account of these the wrath of God is coming. 7 In these you too once walked, when you were living in them. 8 But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth.

Understanding Anger

Anger: a strong feeling of annoyance, displeasure, or hostility.

• The root of anger is what we worship.

• The fruit of anger is destruction.

Righteous Anger

Negative emotion harnessed to eradicate the sin and evil that hinder the worship of God.

Unrighteous Anger

Negative emotion harnessed to eradicate anything or anyone that hinders the worship of an idol (or self).

• The Gospel must change how you think (Romans 12:1-2).

• Meditate on God’s wrath (Romans 2:4).

• But in the stunned amazement that God’s wrath has already been satisfied in Christ (Rom 2:4, 3:25, Heb. 2:17, 1 John 2:1-2, 4:10).
