After five years of a German online magazine, it is high time to publish an English edition. Not leastbecause the natural pool business, which has itsroots in Austria, is rapidly spreading to CentralEurope and is growing larger and larger. Here atBiotop we have noticed this in the expansion of our distribution network: a few new partners in theUnited Kingdom and more in Israel, New Zealandand the USA. And even the French are now

cosmopolitan enough to accept a magazine like this in the English language.

The interest in this product which Biotop firstcommercially brought onto the market 25 years ago and which was initially smirked at, now extendsfar beyond Europe. Was it Kristina Heinrichs’ charming wordsin ending the presentation of the naturalpool by the company Gartenhof Küsters, ordid the quality of design and perfect execu-tion convince the jury at the design compe-tition for the Most Beautiful Natural Pool2009? Probably it was a combination ofboth that contributed to Biotop’s partnercompany from Neuss winning the DesignFrog King.

The number of participating natural poolpartner companies rises from year to yearand this year the number of finalistsreached the record number of nine. Byintroducing the Biotop Living Pool onto themarket, the spectrum of the projects submit-ted has become even broader. Thus, the jurydecided spontaneously to award two topprizes: one for the most beautiful naturalpool, and one for the most beautiful LivingPool. At the competition each company hasfive minutes to present the qualities of thepool they have submitted and to tell thestory of its design and development.

In an exciting 45 minute session each addi-tional presentation challenged any decisionsalready made in the heads of the jury

members. Every presenter was full ofenthusiasm and thus reflected the attitudeof all members of the Natural Pool Grouptowards their product. It is simply fun todesign and build these pools, and that feel-ing is transmitted to the pool owners whobecome more and more enthusiastic as thebuilding work progresses, and who cannotwait to finally dive into their pool.

The amount of fine detail that goes into theconstruction of a natural pool is demon-strated by a time-lapse video that Mr. Dahn-ers of the John company made of the proj-ect he submitted, which runs over eightminutes and gives a birds eye view of how agreen lawn is transformed into anenchanting natural pool. In thisvideo you can also see parasolson the decking long before thepool is completed, and one ortwo people jumping into thewater.

In the construction of this natural pool therainy Eifel weather was not the only chal-lenge that Mrs. Heinrichs was faced with.The experienced natural pool specialist ofthe Gartenhof Küsters company had toterrace the surrounding area to compensatefor the garden’s enormous height differen-tial in order to create a comfortable andaesthetically pleasing approach from the

modern house to the natural pool.The task comprised both the natural pooland the architectural design of the garden,and also took account of the wishes of theparents as well as the children in theirteens and twenties. The garden offersshady spots under trees, lawns for picnicblankets, a wooden deck for sun bathing,

and isolated seating away from themadding crowd. And by building a sauna inthe house, and a bathhouse outdoors, thewhole family’s wish to use the pool yearround was fulfilled. The fact that all theowner’s requirements were met, elementsof the house were mirrored in the pool, andthe terraced garden was continued within

the pool by means of a raised regenerationzone... all of this convinced the jury thatawarded the project first place – and it wasalmost predestined to win. For after initialplanning talks in the garden Kristina Hein-richs found a ceramic frog with a goldencrown – quite similar to the Design Frogitself. This had to be a sign!

I saved their marriage!

It wasn’t just the quality of theproject that led to its success, butalso the presentation that greatlycontributed to determining thewinner. In the category “Natural Pool” Mr. Sirin of Cem Botanik inTurkey was a nose’s length aheadof his competitors. He describedthe heartache of a Turkish“princess” (in modern designerclothes) who didn’t want to live inthe castle that her husband hadbuilt for her slightly outside ofIstanbul. That certain somethingto make the two hectare largegarden inviting was missing. Andthat's where Cem’s good ideacame in: to build a natural poolin the centre of the property.With the words “I saved theirmarriage. The natural pool savedthe marriage” the boss of “CemBotanic” closed his entertainingspeech and thus finished wellahead of serial winners fromprevious years.

NATURAL POOL IN NEW ZEALAND




In the midst of the untouchedlandscape of New Zealand acontractor built a naturalpool. Special challenge: thesteep slope and the limitedaccessibility of the plot.

Untouched nature and unique, lush vegetation– there is good reason why New Zealand isoften described as the green island. In thisgreen paradise the contractor found his newhome. In Germany he worked for a landscap-ing company that also built biologically oper-ated pools. Together with his business partnerhe now wants to bring the pleasure of natural

swimming to the other side of the world – andin order to enthuse interested customers theyneeded an impressive show pool.

A suitable site for this was found in the gardenof his own home, which was rarely used. Theshape of the natural pool was to be linear andmodern, combined with regeneration areas

designed to maintain a natural feel. Inspiration was gained from the primallandscape surrounding the property.However the steep slopes proved chal-lenging to the planning team. In order tocreate a sufficiently large level area forthe natural pool, part of the garden waslowered and its lower part enclosed by acurved wall. The planners built the poolin the shape of a circle segment. The inte-grated linearly designed swimming areareaches all the way to the wall. The natu-rally inspired regeneration zones curveagainst both sides of this and appearperfectly incorporated into the lush andluxuriant surroundings. The basin isconstructed from cement-filled Styrofoamgreenstones with concrete reinforcementand a pool liner. In order to allow waterexchange with the regeneration zones,the basin walls are partially lowered onboth sides.

As there was no access for heavy machinery, the construction work provedto be very challenging. A small diggercould be used for the excavation, but allbuilding materials such as gravel, stones,silt and steel had to be brought in by

bucket and wheelbarrow. The cementneeded was transported 60 metres acrossa neighbouring property. As the propertylies in an earthquake-prone area, theentire construction had to be anchoredadditionally into the slope: 30 sheathedand cement-filled boreholes (1.8 m deepand 0.3 m diameter) now safeguard thepool. After four months of construction itwas finally completed. Today the contrac-tors can relax in their water garden withits dam-like construction and enjoy theview of untouched nature surroundingthem.

The water treatment is carried out through two cycles. In a large cycle, driven by a high-perfor-mance pump (30000L/hr, 650 Watt, running time6-8 hrs/day) the curved sieve skimmer removescoarse impurities from the water. The return flowinto the pool occurs through a five metre longbrook and a rock fountain. A carbonator reduces the pH of the water throughground air suction as necessary. The small pump (4 000L/hr, 50 Watt, running time 24 hrs/day) in thesecond cycle sucks water from above to belowthrough the plant filter. In this step the water iscleared of turbidity, organic impurities, germs and bacteria. In the phosphate filter phosphate –the main nutrient for algae – is bound and thus removed before the cleansed water is returned to the basin.

“Kiwi“ Andrea Haumer hasalready lived longer in Austriathan she did in New Zealand, butshe has never lost contact to herroots and goes “home” at leastonce a year. In the meantime, shehas become a recognized gardenjournalist in Europe. So whowould be more capable of assess-ing the chances for the BiotopNatural Pool in New Zealandbetter than Andrea Haumer, andwho could advocate the advan-tages of this natural swimmingpleasure more credibly than shecan?

natural pool magazine: Howmany years have you been livingin Austria and why did you leaveyour home country, where youhad a successful career as areporter and news anchor-woman?andrea haumer: I have been inAustria now longer than I lived inNew Zealand. Like most NZ trav-ellers I left NZ to do my OE. I had

planned to return after sixmonths. To ensure that, justbefore I left I bought a house inTinakori Road, Wellington. I fellvictim to one of cupid’s arrows: Imet an Austrian and ever sincehave been living happily inAustria. I do travel “home” eachyear and marvel at the lushgarden growth we dream ofhaving here.

What programs did you moderateand what was your name at thetime? Some of our readerscertainly will still remember you,as television anchors – at least inAustria – are very well known.andrea haumer: I would not say Iwas well known. I was, rather inmy time with TV ONE, in every-body’s living room every night forten days at a stretch. My careerstarted with the news team, deliv-ering the daily evening news.

After your children grew up, youwent back to your original profes-sion as a journalist. How did the

topic of gardening take on such adominating role in your work?andrea haumer: Like manythings in my life: by chance. Mytraining was as a secondaryschool history teacher, I fell intoTV journalism quite by accident.What links the two is my insa-tiable curiosity. I have alwayswanted to know. When I wasoffered a role on Kurier’s Freizeitmagazine team, the gardeningcolumn was vacant. And in trueNZ style “I gave it a go”. Of courseI had followed my grandfatheraround his vegetable garden as achild, and I had my twenty-some-thing varieties of sage herbgarden as a student. Like many ofmy ilk, I too knew about lawnmowing; flower bed weeding andtending (and eating) home grownvegetables. When I was a child,every NZ house seemed to have abackyard. In the 50’s after thedepression “growing your own”was, as it is becoming again, acommon pastime.

Tell us a little bit about yourgarden at Attersee, which somany visitors consider unique.

How is it different from othergardens? andrea haumer: Attersee enjoyswhat the Chinese call “aborrowed landscape”. Pull back tothe big picture and my gardenspills over into a forest with animpressive mountain backdrop(apropos Sir Miles Warren’sgarden at Ohinetahi, a specialfavorite of mine, also smudgesinto its surrounding rolling hillsand the waters of LyttletonHarbour creating a grand view).My garden too has the strong

English influence of gardenrooms. This is of course no longernew to Austria, but my garden is18 years old and its yew, box andhornbeam hedges have strongstructure. And it’s possibly the“mix” that makes it unique.Someone recently saw photos ofareas of my garden and asked: “Is this the same place?” Thatthrilled me because having areasof different experiences is exactlywhat I wanted. The biotope areais one important part of thiswhole.

Water obviously plays an impor-tant role in your garden concept.Why did you decide on a naturalpool?andrea haumer: There was a fishpond on the property, an oldforester’s house and garden.Steinbach, where we are, isaround the corner from the Weis-senbach Valley. This is a jackpotfor a student of history, becausehere the Emperor Franz Josefspent all of his summers. Thedeclaration of WW1 was signed inhis summer palace in Bad Ischl,20 minutes from our house. Hewas a passionate hunter and hishumble hunting house is also verynear us and resembles ours. Iwanted to maintain as much ofthe way things were inside andout. A pond: yes. But a fish pond:no. The same pond deep enoughfor after sauna dips seemed agood compromise.

In photos of your garden andyour natural pool there is a longtable on the deck, which is set upfor a meal. Do you spend muchtime with your family and friendsby the water?

It’s the “mix” that makes it unique: The biotope area is one important part of the whole.



andrea haumer: In summer weare there all the time. That“borrowed landscape” mentionedabove is beautifully mirrored inwater. A special joy is meditatingreflections. We have a livelycommunity on “golden pond”…water insects, tadpoles, harmlesswater snakes, dragon flies. Thecycle of “eat and be eaten” is atwork here. And the aqua flora isheavenly, I have endless waterlilies. In summer, too, when theheat is on this is the cool place!

How often is your pool used forswimming?andrea haumer: We live next to alake. The serious swimmers in ourfamily swim in Lake Attersee. Thepond used to have a paddling areafor our son (now 20). It is presentlyused intensively for après sauna.But the atmosphere it creates isenjoyed in summer when enter-taining. In winter we love lookingat it in its full icy glory. Our pond islit. We always have extra gardentime with “night drama”.

Do you spend much time takingcare of your pool?

andrea haumer: Once a year, Ihave help to trim the growth. Insummer I put on my neopreneoutfit and wade about weeding. I know this activity has a use-by-date and I do intend to invest inskimmer & Co!

Since mid-2008 the Biotop Natural Pool is also available inNew Zealand via a partnercompany. Do you think that yourfellow New Zealanders back homewill become as enthusiastic aboutnatural pools as you are inAustria?andrea haumer: New Zealandersare nature lovers. Indoor/outdoorliving is closely knit. A naturalpool fits this philosophy like aglove. A blue Californian swimming pool does not. Chemicals are an earnest issuethat tips the balance for theecologically thinking. Not least,the stride made with design helpsus with the decision. Naturalpools marry well with modern(wooden) architecture. And givinganimals a place near ours to calltheir own is very ecologicallyresponsible.

Kiwis are generally innovativeand open to new ideas but some-times they can take a while toembrace or take up a newconcept. What convincing argu-ments would you use to persuadeyour fellow Kiwis in this case?andrea haumer: The decision tohave a natural pool or not, is apersonal decision. It can be ofcourse peppered by the ecologicalarguments and New Zealandersin particular have always beenopen to these. The clear blue poolhas had a long run and to someextent we have been brain-washed into thinking that’sluxury pure (forgetting the chlo-rine of course). The big leapforward, for those who cannotimagine bathing in murkierwaters, are the accessories thatpretty well give you that “clearwater” condition, but powered bybiologically sound principles. Theatmosphere a pool provides whenyou’re not in it is also a seriousargument.

Were you uncertain at all whenyou decided to get a naturalpool?

andrea haumer: There arecertain experiences that have last-ing impressions. Growing up inRotorua, I swam in lakes andrivers all through my youth.Rotorua being a thermal spot,nearby we had a stream with hotrunning water and that was bliss!Natural experiences like these aresome of the happiest and mostmemorable of all. I think the keypoint is having natural water“close to home” in all seasons, tobe shared anytime with everyone.

And how do you judge your doubtsduring the deciding phase today?andrea haumer: The only pointany potential natural pond ownershould beware of: afford your-selves the biggest you can.

If you would start to plan yourgarden all over again, how woulda natural pool fit in?andrea haumer: A clear answerhere. Starting again I would makemy pond even bigger. And, moreastonishingly, I would draw iteven closer to the house. My fishpond turned natural swimmingpond is 5 meters from the house.Building again I would have thehouse open directly onto thepond. Starting with a completelybare canvas I would see houseand pond as one, coddled in mygarden.

When a Central European thinks of Crete,summer, sun, sand and ocean spring to mind.If one is familiar with Greek mythology onemight also think of Zeus who is said to havebeen born in a cave on this Greek island. Butnever ever would one think of a natural pool.Nikostratos Vardakis cannot have had an easytime establishing the natural pool in Greece.But he’s done it. The first natural pool hasbeen built on Crete.

Swimming in lakes is allegedly uncommon in Greece. “What’s the ocean there for” is thefair objection to the topic natural pool in thegarden. Now, after completion, Mr. Vardakishas rediscovered the enthusiasm he showedat his training course in Austria. This is alsodue to the fact that the project will undergointensive testing which will probably result in a decision whether or not natural poolswill be approved for the public sector inGreece, in particular for hotels. Capturing this market was originally the main reasonwhy the self-employed civil engineer joinedthe Natural Pool Group.

The Mediterranean climate has been themain challenge for Biotop. The results fromthe water test will determine if the challenge

has been met successfully. A further difficulttask was the construction of a natural pool on the steep coastal terrain. The swimming areawas separated from the regeneration area byconcrete walls. Regarding the steep slope, thebest was made of the difficult conditions, bycreating a magnificent brook.

Supplying the materials, however, proved to be a true Odyssey. The substrate was deliveredfrom the Greek island Evia, the quartz sandfrom Egypt, and the gravel from Chania, Crete.The costs of transport rose disproportionately to the distance. Original quote, NikostratosVardakis: “This is Greece!” The high costs of the gravel transport nearly caused the project to collapse. But Mr. Vardakis brought to mind his years working as a civil engineer and called upon contacts from those days. And behold – the transport costs were considerably reduced.

Thus the project was saved, to the great pleasure of the contractors, Bob and LizBurlumi, who saw all their expectationsfulfilled with the completion of the pool. Theywere both impressed by the competence of the Biotop employees and by the creativity of design as well as the consideration regard-ing conservation of the environment. Not only have the gods been on Mr. Vardakis’side in constructing his first natural pool,

they have also blessed him with a completed project which will convince further inter-ested private parties. And it’s only a materof time until natural pools will be built forhotel complexes. As long as Zeus doesn’tobject.

One of the most commonly expressedwishes amongst prospective natural poolowners is to have a rippling brook.However, the required conditions for aflowing body of water in addition to thepool, lending an element that is calming tothe owner, are not always present. Innature water always seeks out the shortestpath down to the valley. The same principalshould be applied to artificially constructedbrooks, or else the heart’s desire for arippling brook becomes a laughable trickleof water. We queried Mr. Simon Lustenberg,the regional director of the Swiss NaturalPool-company Niederberger + von Wyl AGof Kägiswil on this topic. Almost no otherpartner company of Biotop has built asmany brooks as the Swiss.

natural pool magazine: Your Natural Poolconstructions very often include theelement of flowing water. Was this yourown idea, or more commonly the client'swishes?simon lustenberger: My consultation portfo-lio includes several beautiful shots of brookswe have constructed. These pictures sparkthe clients’ interest and they want to know

more about them. If the landscape is suitablefor a brook, this often generates the wish tohave water flowing in one’s own garden.

What makes a brook appear “natural”?simon lustenberger: Just like in a naturalstreambed the water should flow in a current,over rough and smooth, down to the pool.With its bubbling and rippling the brookappears blithe and alive. The planting at thewater’s edge and the fauna that colonizes itfurther contribute to a natural appearance.

Do you advise the client against a brookwhen the conditions are not appropriate?simon lustenberger: Yes I do, as there aremany other options to allow the water toflow from the pump back into the naturalpool. e.g. a natural stone well or fountain, awater channel of natural stone, water jets, awaterfall, a chrome spate and many more.

What is the length of the longest brook youhave built to date?simon lustenberger: It is ten metres longand has a height difference of approximatelytwo meters. It is furnished with roundblocks of granite and ripples considerably.

Is the energy expenditure increased in theconstruction of a brook?simon lustenberger: In operating the tech-nology of a natural pool a pump is required

How high are the added costs incurred by including a brook into a natural poolsystem?simon lustenberger: That depends on the size and length of the brook. Generally

the costs come to approximately one thousand euros.

Can a brook be turned off for periods of time, e.g. during a holiday?simon lustenberger: The brook is plantedwith water plants such as water forget-me-nots, marsh marigolds and many others,which require a constant supply of waterduring the growing season.

During absences the plants can beprevented from drying up by using a clocktimer. During winter the technology isswitched off, and with it the pump.

Doesn’t an empty stream bed look bleak in the winter?simon lustenberger: The stream remainsintegrated into its surroundings in thewinter months, and the planted surround-ing surfaces look attractive in the snow andmagical when glazed with frost.

Is there no risk of unnoticed loss of water when a brook leaks?simon lustenberger: That is indeed a risk. Two to three inspections during itsoperation period can eliminate the threat of water loss. In the autumn additionalmonitoring is necessary, as fallen leavescan cause blockage.

Does the demonstration pool in yourcompany have a brook?simon lustenberger: Unfortunately, no.The conditions do not allow for a brook.Instead a beautiful natural stone fountainenhances our own natural pool.

A Mountain Lake Just Needs a Running Brook.

This natural pool is probably one of theones built at the highest altitude. It liesin a section of the Swiss mountainswhere the snow only melts in the summertime. A hiker in the mountainswould hardly suspect it to be an artifi-cially built natural pool. The runningbrook contributes to the impression ofa natural mountain lake. And of onethat people enjoy swimming in.

The Hotel Pool is Filled with Spring Water.

The Beausite Park Hotel was one ofthe first hotels in Switzerland that offered its guests a natural pool. The fall of the land virtually offered itself as the ideal space for a naturalpool with a running brook. Withoutthis being originally intended, thehotel guests get the impression thatthe bathing lake is constantly beingsupplied with spring water.

It all began as something very ordinary. Aphone call with a query whether Biotopwould be able to take over the planning of anatural pool. What was unusual was thecaller. A “Mr. Kennedy” was on the otherend of the line and asked for a visit on shortnotice, in order to pitch a natural pool proj-ect to his client. Also considerable was thesize of the project. It was to be a naturalpool of about 16,000 square feet. RichardKennedy sat in his office in New York Cityand the natural pool was to be built on anisland on the east coast of the USA.

As the Biotop boss Peter Petrich was tied upwith something else, another member of theBiotop staff took over the job of giving thepresentation, and suddenly found himself inthe presence of the “crème de la crème” ofgarden design, or perhaps more correctly, ofgarden art. All present were rather nervous,as very large contracts were obviously atstake, and nobody wanted to be the first topresent, as the contractor had the reputationof being very fussy. Everybody was verysurprised when the Biotop employee volun-teered to make a start. And he delivered apresentation that significantly improved themood of everyone present, as the potential

contractor appeared very impressed by theproduct natural pool. Thus the day ran likeclockwork for all the other bidders – fromthe Dutch shrubbery specialist to the Frenchsculpture expert and the Canadian interiordesigner.Richard Kennedy from the planning office“Field Operations” had come across Biotopon the web, where the website had givenhim the impression that this was the mostcompetent supplier. This now needed to beproven, as the design contract followedshortly. This happened in December 2007

and the completion date was set for May2009. This may sound like a lot of time, butin the end it was a push to meet the dead-line. The majority of the materials had to bedelivered to Boston by air freight, then fromthere to the holiday destination NantucketIsland. The two hectare large property wasbeing completely redeveloped and – as aspecial challenge – a listed building movedby 650 feet. The contractor had chosen anatural pool as the property lies in a naturereserve where conventional pools wereprohibited.

In May 2009 Peter Petrich handed over oneof the most interesting and exciting projectsin the history of Biotop to the contractor,who wishes to remain anonymous. The latesttechnology, including the phosphate filter“PhosTecUltra” was applied to this naturalpool, which ended up measuring a stagger-ing 1,600 m². Due to the size of the pool, andin order to meet the standards regardingalgae prevention, six “PhosTecUltra“ filterswere connected in series. Now the mostexciting phase of the project began. cian have to cross the ocean to make adapta-tions? Every day Peter Petrich waited for acall from the USA, and this indeed arrived.But not from Mr. Kennedy, nor from thecontractor, but from the boss of the Bostonbased landscaping company Marzilli &Company, who had been involved in theredevelopment on Nantucket Island and hadalso been involved in building the naturalpool. Bob Marzilli was so impressed by thequality of the natural pool and of the innova-tive Living Pool that had since reached themarket that he wanted to become the firstUS partner in the Natural Pool Group. Thisbecame reality in March 2011. Bob Marzilliand one of his employees came to Vienna fortraining, and there was much cause for cele-bration. Not only did Biotop have its first USpartner, Marzilli & Company were also thefiftieth partner company. And when BobMarzilli showed the most recent picturesfrom the development in Nantucket Island onhis laptop, there was no end to PeterPetrich’s delight. He had never doubted thatthe system would work, but he hadn’tdreamed the finished project would turn outas beautifully as it did. At this point the Biotop boss rememberedthe words of the contractor’s wife at theproject handover: “The pond is aveeeeeeeery successful part of the project.”He could only agree.

A new license holder, distribution in two new countries and a total of seven newpartner companies within one year – the export department of Biotop Landschafts-gestaltung GmbH has all reason to be proud.This brings the Natural Pool Group closer tothe goal set by Biotop boss Peter Petrich inhis vision five years ago: “By the year 2012we will have 50 partner companies”. At the time the bar seemed to have been set very high, but it now looks as though itwill even be achieved this year. Two years ago Sylvie Bangert of Biotop tookover the job of specifically directing growthof the partner network and of coordinatingenquires from landscaping companiesworldwide. This she apparently does verysuccessfully. As a French citizen who is married to a German and has lived andworked in Australia, the USA and Belgium,she possesses qualities that every caller immediately senses. When greeted with suchcharm, a caller instantly gets the feeling ofalready belonging to the Natural Pool family.Even the companies Biotop has to reject because they don’t fulfill the general require-ments or because the catchment area has already been assigned remember the contactwith Sylvie as a positive experience.

To ensure a successful start he choseexperienced partners – amongst themBiotop. In the deep Austrian winter, in January2010, two new partners came to Weidling:the Austrian company Fresner and the com-pany Natura Verde from Italy. The companyFresner enjoys an excellent reputation as aspecialist center for landscaping activities, aflorist, a gardening center, a nursery, and aplanning office for exterior design withpaving, natural pools, village squares and

conservatories in Upper Styria, nearSalzburg. The existing show pool was con-verted to run on the latest natural pool tech-nology and is proof of this new partner’sartistic ability. With their company head-quarters in central Austria this partner isthe ideal addition to the Austrian naturalpool network.Cosimo Marsamo, owner of the companyNatura Verde, was already familiar with thebuilding of natural pools, but wanted toreach a new dimension of natural pool con-struction with the help of Biotop’s know-how. appreciate him, this decision came easy. For the past nine years our partner in theNetherlands has been operating success-fully. In April 2010 a former employee ofthe company, Dick Van Gessel, took over therole of a master license holder for Belgiumand the Netherlands. Within a short periodof time Mr. Van Gessel and his companyBiotop Benelux had found two new partnersin these countries, who were trained inJune 2010. Verhoeve Groen Bv is part of a holding company that has been involved in the design and maintenance of green spaces inthe Netherlands and Belgium for 150 years.

The demand for natural pools had risen so dramatically that the employees couldhardly wait for the training course to begin.Immediately after this their first naturalpool was built. Situated virtually at the Belgian coast, thefamily business Watelle is known country-wide for its exceptionally beautiful gardens.The natural pool area manager Peiter Watelle also received his first assignmentfor a natural pool immediately after histraining had been completed, as part of acomplete garden landscaping project. Almost even more difficult than the entirecontract negotiations with the new partner

companies were Sylvie Bangert’s attemptsto get the partners in front of a camera lens,to document the signing of the contract. But finally the camera shyness could beovercome aided by Sylvie’s charm and a fewencouraging words – with a slight Frenchaccent.
