Principal’s report

2014 Captains

Well done to the 19 Year 5 nominees for 2014 School

Captain. These students presented their speeches to

the entire school and some very proud parents and

family members last Wednesday. Votes have now been

counted, with the successful candidates being

announced at next Wednesday’s Presentation evening.

Our 2014 Captain nominees – who will it be?

Positive Behaviour Awards

This Friday 6 December we will be commencing our

assembly at 2:15 pm. As well as our usual awards and

items, we will be presenting many students with their

Positive Behaviour awards. Many of our students will

be receiving their Behaviour medallion. If your child

had reached Gold level last term, and they have

continued with positive behaviour throughout Term 4,

they will be eligible to receive this medallion. Time

constraints have meant we are not able to present

these at a separate assembly. This has been the first

year of trialing our new Merit and Behaviour award

systems. A few ‘tweeks’ will be made following input

from parents and staff.

Merit Medallion Assembly

Next Monday 9 December we will be holding our very

special Merit Medallion assembly. Students who have

attained 8 Merit awards throughout the year for

classroom effort and achievement. The assembly will

commence at 10:30 am under the COLA. A special

morning tea will be provided for these children and

their parents.

Carols in the Park

Well done to our wonderful children who entertained

the crowd on Sunday at Carols in the Park. My thanks

also to Mrs Davis and Mrs Bostock who prepared the

children for this special performance.

Some of our Christmas singers entertain the crowd

Presentation Evening

Next Wednesday 11 December our annual

Presentation Night will be held at the Junee High

Multi-Purpose Centre. The evening will commence at

6:30 pm. This very special night celebrates the fabulous

achievements and efforts of students throughout the

year. All students are expected to attend, and to wear

correct school uniform. Students are to meet their

teachers outside the MPC by 6:15 in order to be seated

in their class groups. In order to ensure clean uniforms

for the night, children may wear their mufti clothes

during the day to school. A P&C raffle will be held, with

tickets in a Christmas hamper on sale at the door.

Pool Party

As our Term 4 reward for positive behaviour, we will be

holding our annual Pool Party on Friday 13 December.

Invitation notes have been distributed to eligible

children. All children are to come to school as normal,

with buses transporting children to the pool. Please see

further details on the note.

Robotics Workshop

A very special opportunity

On Thursday 21 November 15 of our Stage 3 students

were invited to attend a day at Junee High School

where they learned about robotics. The field of

robotics is a very important one. Many wonderful

technologies have been developed using these robots.

Robotics competitions are held worldwide. Adrian from

CSU led our students throughout the day. The children

discovered how to program some very complicated

software, in order to enable their lego robots to

maneuver around a specific course using various

sensors. As well as learning these software

programming skills, this activity also promoted great

teamwork, problem solving and tested the

perseverance of our teams! Last Tuesday 7 of our

students were selected to attended the inaugural

Junee Robotics Shield finals. Mathew Hindmarsh, Luke

Davis, Kasey Miller, Nick Cook, Kiara Longmore, Dylan

Gustowski and Jordan Hawke spent the day working

through several challenges. They competed against

teams from Illabo, Junee Public, Eurongilly, St Joseph’s

and Junee High. We were very excited when one of our

teams finished in second place – only 10 points behind

the Junee High team. This will certainly be an ongoing

program with lots of enthusiasm generated.

Ben, Dylan & Johanna focus on their programming

Adrian demonstrated to our students how the robot’s

sensors work

Well done to our team ‘The Crushers’ (Luke, Jordan &

Kasey) who finished in second place!

Thank you Junee High for enabling another wonderful

opportunity!

Guitar Performances

A chance to share their talents

Last Friday we were treated to performances from our

guitar students. Lachlan Payne, Ellie Crawford, William

White, Brandon Collins and Jordan Hawke attend

lessons each week under the tutelage of Mr Jeff

Donovan from the Conservatorium of Music. It was

wonderful to hear the progress they have made during

the year and to provide an opportunity for them to be

heard by a large audience. Well done!

Brandon is a picture of concentration

Ellie shares her talent

Mr Druce shares his knowledge

This week the Stage 3 students were most fortunate to

receive a special visit from Mr Neil Druce of the Junee

Licorice and Chocolate Factory. Mr Druce talked with

the students about the process involved in licorice

making as well as many other aspects of trade, labour,

importing and exporting. Our students were a captive

audience and certainly gained a wealth of new

knowledge. Thank you Mr Druce!

Question time was very popular (as was the white

chocolate coated licorice!)

Captains Harrison & Johanna express their thanks to Mr

Druce for a fabulously informative session.

Courage to Care

Stage 3 gain some powerful insights

Last week the Stage 3 children travelled to Wagga to

visit the Museum of the Riverina’s “Courage to Care’

exhibition. This exhibition provided a forum for

discussion on topics such as tolerance, racism, bullying

and prejudice There were many displays reflecting the

harsh conditions of holocaust survivors. As well as this

exhibition, the students were also treated to a visit to

the Wagga Art gallery where they were exposed to a

variety of art making techniques and the stories behind

the art works on display.
