Below are some additional activities to enhance your professional development! Remember, some activities incur additional fees and require pre-registration — so choose carefully and be sure to call us if you have questions!

CPR/First Aid Course

Add to your professional training by attending this informative class provided by Unique Ser-vices. By attending this class you will become certified by the American Heart Association in both CPR and First Aid. Please note that this is a PRE-CONFERENCE class! When: Monday, July 18, 2011 Time: 9:00 am until 1:00 pm Location: Windwood Presbyterian Church Activity Center 10555 Spring Cypress, Road, Houston, TX 77070 Cost: $30.00 per person if registered to attend PTAC. $40.00 if NOT registered to attend PTAC. Fee payable in advance (see registration form). Fee is not refundable, but is transferable.

Tuberculosis Testing

If you are new to the childcare profession or if you have changed employers, you are re-quired to provide proof of TB Testing to your employer. Let us help you fulfill this require-ment! Testing to be done by Unique Services, a provider of convenient, on-site TB Testing. When: Actual Testing —Tuesday, July 19, 2011 (first lunch 11:30-12:20) Test Read — Thursday, July 21, 2011 (during lunch) Where: In the Café’ area of the Youth Activity Center

Our Speakers

Each day, we will take the opportunity to start the day together in our Worship Center while we enjoy various nationally recognized speakers and performers of in-terest to all. We meet again for an afternoon speaker after the last workshop session.

Conference Workshops

Each workshop is 50 minutes long and will have open seating on a first-come, first-served basis. We have special workshop tracks for those involved with Mother’s Day Out and/or Preschool, as well as a special track available for Directors.

We will have all of the conference/presenter handouts available ONLINE for you to print out BEFORE you arrive. Workshop notes/handouts will be put up on the website (www.windwoodpc.org) as they become available.

Start/End Times ***Please note that on Tuesday, the first day of PTAC, doors open at 7:00 am for registration/continental breakfast. Praise & Worship will be held from 7:45—8:00 am. We will then have announcements and “Singing With Dr. Jean” before the Keynote.

On Wednesday & Thursday, registration/continental breakfast is from 7:30 am until 8:00 am each day, fol-lowed by Praise & Worship from 8:10 am until 8:25 am.

Keynote Speakers run from 8:30 am until 9:20 am on the 20th & 21st, with conference workshops starting immediately thereafter. We have a Footnote Speaker from 1:40 to 2:30 pm each day.

Additional Activities

As you can see on the adjoining page, we have two ‘additional activities’ to offer — a pre-conference First Aid/CPR class and TB Testing.

These activities incur an additional cost, so be sure to read the requirements on the inside front cover care-fully for registration and fee payment.

The Adventure Preschool & Windwood Christian Academy would like to take the opportunity to invite you to the 14th Annual Preschool Teachers Adventure Conference to be held July 19, 20, and 21, 2011. We have evolved from a small conference for MDO & Preschool teachers — into a con-ference that now serves over 700 Early Childhood Professionals & Directors per day! We have na-tionally acclaimed speakers, along with practical and imaginative workshops, where you will find opportunities to be trained, encouraged, and motivated!

Cost

We feel that for the quality of speakers and workshop leaders we are bringing to you, we are still very afford-able. (1 day = $75, 2 days = $135, 3 days = $185). Your fees include admission to speakers and workshops, continental breakfast and a catered lunch each day.

Registration Deadlines

We are offering a 10% discount to those who get their registration forms and fees to us by May 28, 2011. The final deadline for PTAC registration is July 8, 2011. Your registration forms and fees should be postmarked no later than July 8, 2011 or hand-delivered by July 15th. Seating is limited, so we recommend that you register as soon as possible. Should we reach capacity and are unable to accommodate you, your registration fees will be refunded. Registration paperwork postmarked after July 8, 2011 will incur a $25 late fee.

Training Hours and CEU’s

For each FULL day that you attend PTAC, you are eligi-ble for 6 clock hours. If you attend all three days (including speakers) of PTAC you will be eligible for a total of 18 clock hours. Certificates for training hours will be provided with your registration materials. For a processing fee of $20, you may obtain 1.8 CEU’s from Tomball College. If you wish to be eligible to receive CEU’s for your conference attendance, you must insure that your conference registration form, your CEU re-quest form, and your fees are postmarked no later than July 8, 2011.

Refund Policy

Registration fees are non-refundable, but are transfer-able.

PTAC has no childcare available on the premises. .

A Day in the Life of a Toddler Toddlers are interesting, unique and fun little people! They are experiencing difficult physical challenges and important develop-mental milestones. Additionally, they lack crucial social skills and need extremely specific environments! Through humor and hands-on fun, we will put ourselves in their shoes. Get ready to be 2 years old — again! Birth to 3 Years of Age: Building Hands for Fine Motor Skills & Handwriting Did you know that most of our hand skills are developed in the first year of life and then refined as we grow older? Lasso the Energy! Time span of about 3 minutes and an endless supply of energy — preschoolers need to be taught in a way that address BOTH of those characteristics! Preschoolers are in the ―learning to‖ mode. They are ―learning to‖ do lots of things! Let‘s look at ways we can take what they are already ―learning to‖ do and use that to teach them about the Lord! Peaceful Touch, Part 1: Fundamentals This hands-on workshop presents both practice and theory of healthy touch for children ages 3-8. Includes development and research of the program, simple games and touch techniques, and ideas on how to integrate what is learned into the school and home settings. Conflict, when approached correctly, doesn‘t have to be a bad thing. It can be a power catalyst for needed change and explosive creativity, but only if we are prepared for it when it comes. Darlene Abbott serves as Preschool & Kids Worship Choir Director at The Church at Station Hill, a regional campus of Brentwood Baptist Church in Nash-ville, TN. She is a writer of preschool & children’s music and curriculum. Lyn Armstrong is an occupational therapist with over thirty years of experience with partnering with parents and teachers to help kids be successful. She is the author of Alphabet Soup: Fun Activities to Stir Your Child’s Interest in Letters. Dorris Burnworth has made her career in the fields of mental health & community social services. She has been a Licensing Inspector for Child Care Licensing for over 5 years & has also recently completed the train-ing to serve as a Child Care Health Consultant. Lori Buxton has been involved in Early Care and Educa-tion since 1995 and has served children and their fami-lies on many levels including classroom teacher, trainer, children's pastor and executive child care administrator. Lori is the founder of the Gulf Coast Director's Net-work in southeast Texas. Dr. Rick Chromey is a professor, author, and leader in emergent culture and children’s ministry. He’s a regular contributor and columnist for Children’s Ministry maga-zine and the author of “Energizing Children’s Ministry in the Smaller Church.” Billy Collins is an Independent Associate/Director, Small Business & Group Benefits Specialist with Pre-Paid Legal Services, Inc. Mary Margarita Contie is an experienced speaker and bilingual trainer in numerous areas. She has served as a NAEYC Regional Assessor and is the senior consult-ant and CEO for Creative Beginnings. Alyssa Countryman has spent over 12 years in the field of Early Childhood Education. She obtained a Master’s Degree in Infant & Toddler Development and Spe-cial Education. Alyssa has varied experience working with children of preschool and elementary school ages and taught abroad for several months in South Korea. Carrie Cutler is a frequent presenter at local, regional, and national conferences on mathematics and early child-hood education. She is also an adjunct professor in the College of Education at the University of Houston, and at the University of Houston-Downtown. Regina Eardley has been working with children and art for over 15 years. Previously, she owned and operated a KidzArt franchise serving hundreds of students. She is TEA certified in Art K-12, along with many other certifications. She is currently an Account Manager for Discount School Supply. Jackie Ford earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Wisconsin. After moving to Houston, she became the Music Director at the Adventure School and has been serving in that capacity for the past 12 years, incorporating her three greatest passions: God, children, and music. Jill Guettler has been a long-time educator of children. After earning her teaching degree, she taught public school in La Porte ISD and Clear Creek ISD.

Jill currently teaches Science, Social Studies & Bible to 2nd—5th grade children at Windwood Christian Acad-emy. Kara Gore is currently working on her graduate degree in Early Childhood Education. She teaches child devel-opment classes at Brazosport College in Lake Jackson and has owned and operated “Lifeboat Child Care Training & Consulting” for 3 years. Amelia Hewitt holds an Ed.D. in early childhood educa-tion and currently serves as an Assistant Professor at the University of Houston-Downtown. Her primary area of interest is in addressing the needs of the whole child through developmentally appropriate teaching. Ann Hightower is a retired ExxonMobil chemical engi-neer who has taught an Outdoor Classroom program at The Branch School since 2004 to 3-year-olds through middle schoolers. She is a master Gardener, a member of the Houston Audubon Society, & the Native Plant Society of Texas. Jackie Hogan has worked with children for over 25 years. For many of those years, she operated a Chris-tian Preschool/Academy. Jackie is a licensed teacher with a BA in Early Childhood Education and she is currently an employee at the Windwood Christian Acad-emy. Tina Houser has been a writer of church school curricu-lum for over 17 years. She is a popular workshop presenter, always bringing energetic and engaging topics to her audiences. She is a published author in the areas of storytelling and bringing the Bible to children. Jean Kuecher is the producer of the Marionette Play-house. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a Masters’ degree in Education: Counsel-ing & Guidance. As a former teacher and family thera-pist, & the current leader of a parenting small group, she brings unique expertise and insight. Susan Mac Hugh is a registered trainer with the Texas Early Care and Education Career Development System. She is an early childhood consultant, a former preschool director/head teacher, and the support group leader for the Kingwood/Humble/Atascocita Chapter of the Attention Deficit Disorder Association — South-ern Region. Melissa McKenzie is an early childhood professional committed to making learning a joyful journey for both children and adults. She has worked with children for over 12 years, recently earned her CDA, and currently teaching Music, Movement & Chapel at Little Lambs ECC in Cypress. Lucas Miller is a full-time, independent author and musician who creates humorous songs and stores that teach science subjects. Lucas has brought his high-energy, multi-media programs to nearly two million students across the nation in his 17-year career as an informal science educator. Linda Quiroz retired after a 30-year career in educa-tion. She is a published author and has developed a variety of educational products for instruction in the classroom. Linda is currently recording songs for the

newest in a series titled, Bubbles/Burbujas for Early Childhood. Kathy Railey of “Sing With Me”, has worked with children for over 30 years! She was a preschool Bible School teacher for 20 years and has directed Day Camps, Workshops, & Trained Girl Scout Leaders, Children’s Librarians, & Preschool Teachers. Cathy Ransom graduated from K.D. Studio with an Associates Degree in Performance Arts and has been acting for over 13 years. She has been teaching at the Adventure School for 5 years. Dana Schuetze is a nationally recognized speaker and Zoo-phonics trainer. Through her 29 years of experi-ence in preschool and elementary education as a class-room teacher and literacy coach, she believes in a kines-thetic approach to learning. Lena Scholten is the director of Children’s Ministries at Windwood Presbyterian Church. She graduated from the College of Biblical Studies with a BA in Chris-tian Leadership. Mark Shepherd received his BS from the university of Wisconsin in Elementary Education and has done gradu-ate work in special education K-8. He has taught elementary school, regular ed. and special ed for over 12 years. In 2004, he started the nationally acclaimed Educational Entertainment Company Song Solutions. Chris Smith is the Early Childhood Consultant for Enid Public Schools, and a national workshop presenter with over thirty years of experience. She combines current brain research and “best practice” strategies to create exciting and innovative learning activities for young children. Tym Smith began working in the Early Childhood Development field in 1986. After spending more than five years in the classroom, he advanced to fill various positions, including Education Specialist, Assistant Director, Site Manger, and then, Director. Tym has served as an NAEYC Validator since 2002 and is a certified trainer. Thomas Vandemark is the Director of Peaceful Touch, an education non-profit dedicated to teaching education professionals about the benefits of healthy touch, primarily for children ages 3-8. Carolyn Wade is a former prekindergarten and kinder-garten teacher who is currently a doctoral student at the University of Houston. She has been an adjunct lec-turer in early childhood education for the past nine years at the University of Houston and the University of Houston-Downtown.
