Oct. 16. Professor Bill Loving, co-author of one of the most recognized texts on mass media law, came to speak about how to practice ethics in the workplace and in every day life. Loving cautions us that at some point in our public relations careers, we will be asked to say or write something to the media that may be unethical in order to maintain the company’s image. He states that too many people have put their loyalty above the truth, which puts them in unethical situations.

In order to be ethical we must: • be honest• have good strength of character• practice good ethics in everything we

What are you currently involved in? The organization I work for the nonprofit student run radio station, KCPR. I am a disk jockey and I work with ore than ten other students providing the local airwaves with alternative sounds and tunes. Right now I am in the process of ending my training so I am currently playing music during the graveyard shift. What is your favorite part about this position? My favorite aspect of the experience is getting to learn more about music and learning how a radio station works. When I turn on my radio in my car I never really think twice about the process of selecting music that should be played on air. What is an average day on the job for you? As I explained before right now I am in the process of finishing training so I play music during graveyard shift which is either from 12-3 or 4-7 in the morning. My slot is 4 to 7 a.m. on Thursdays and I usually walk into a deserted building half awake and begin to select my music. Im always at least twenty minutes early because picking music to play for three hours is tough—there’s a certain flow you want to achieve.Any advice to anyone interested? My advice to give to a perspective member or student thinking of joining is, just do it. It’s so much fun to be surrounded by a sea of music lovers with so many different types of genre preferences.

“I never thought twice about what it takes to be on air. It’s a nerve-wrecking concept to think that even a few people are listening to you—do I really sound like that?”
