About the Artists :

Sangeetha Sivakumar is among the popular musicians in the carnatic music field. While residing in Kochi, she started learning music

at the tender age of 9, from Sri K.P. Vasu of Calicut. Her father S.M. Sivakumar was one of the founders of the music organisation in Kochi - Rasikapriya. This gave her the opportunity to hear many stalwarts of Indian classical music and interact with many. In 1987, she moved from Kochi to Chennai and became the disciple of the famous vocalist, Smt Charumathi Ramachandran. She has been regularly performing in various Sabhas in Chennai and all over India, and in the prestigious Margazhi music festival conducted in Chennai every year. Sangeetha has a mellifluous, resonant voice and her command over the technical aspects of carnatic music is highly appreciated by musicians, critics and rasikas alike. She is an upholder of the G.N.Balasubramaniam bani. Her music is known for its crispness, clarity of thought and presentation. She has the great capacity of being extremely creative within the bounds of tradition and classicism.

K.V.S.Vinay hails from a musical family. He is the grandson of Sangeetha Kalanidhi late Sri T.K. Jayarama Iyer, eminent violinist and father of orchestration of Indian music. Born and raised in Delhi, Vinay had his initial training from Mrs. Vanaja Aravamuthan and subsequently trained under late Sri V. Janakiraman and his uncle Sri Kovai B. Dakshinamurthy. A concert performer for over 20 years, Vinay has had the privilege of accompanying several leading musicians and also performing as a successful solo artiste. He has featured on national radio and TV in India and has won many awards including an Indian government scholarship for training in music. He is a B-high graded artiste of the All India Radio. Since moving to the US, Vinay has had the opportunity to perform with eminent India and US based artistes in leading sabhas across the country. He has also had the opportunity to collaborate with Boston based World Jazz groups ‘Natraj’ and ‘Bangalore’. Vinay has a PhD in economics and lives and works in the Boston area.

Ganesh Sankaranarayanan started learning mridangam at the age of ten from the renowned guru Sangita Kala Acharya Sri Kumbakonam Rajappa Iyer in Chennai, India. He has given many performances in Chennai and Chidamabaram before moving to US in 2000. Since then, he has accompanied several artists in US. He is currently undergoing advanced training under M. Lakshman a senior disciple of Palghat Sri T.R. Rajamani. Ganesh has also learned carnatic vocal music from his mother Smt. Saraswathy Sankaranarayanan. With his knowledge in vocal music, he seeks to provide a sensitive and sahityam-based accompaniment. Ganesh is a research scientist at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
